wow! it was cold last night here! going out to the balcony for a ciggie was freezing!
so i guess it's a good job i'm in ukraine and not turkey, bulgaria, greece or macedonia then as they now have *no* gas being supplied at all via ukraine... but i'm sure everyone has read about that already
i quite like this quote from kyiv post "Direct military conflict with Russia is unlikely"
unlikely!?!? scary that they even felt the need to mention it! lol
> I heard on the radio last Sunday that Ukraine provided Georgia with arms last August.
> Putin must have that in mind.
bull: very true! i think russia was pretty p*ssed off with ukraine helping georgia!
some people think this is all a cunning plan by our prime minister yulia to become president. who knows... we'll soon see if it is she that manages to sort out the crisis. (she is pretty cute though!) of course that might end ukraines ideas of joining nato, etc.
i know the gas arguments seem to happen every year, but this time it does seem a bit worse?
There was s poster in front of a merchant's store in Kiev that I thought was humorous. It was Auntie Yulya's braided hair that formed a noose that wrapped around President YUSHCHENKO's neck.
Speaking of Yushchenko, I never asked but I believe he was on my flight from Frankfurt to Kiev. There was an unusual separate group checking passports and looking at us and our pictures closely as we boarded the plane. Unboarding from the train we all boarded a bus to the terminal. Then there was a delay. Out of the plane runs out who I saw looked a lot like the president and boarded a limo with a lot of bodyguards nearby. Nobody seemed to notice or care.
I agree. Auntie Yulya is cute, but did you ever see the serious face on her when she speaks to the people or parliament? Goodness. I have never seen her smile.
I just got back a month ago, Pete. I am thinking of the summer.
> I'm off to Barcelona on friday...+12° there....not great but can't really complain.
kirkland: the word b*stard springs to mind! but seriously... hope you have fun! lol
> What ever you do - DO NOT get into bed with her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-))))
> Looks are very deceiving !!!
well... forunately with olya they weren't! lol... she finds it very funny that i have yulias photo on my phone though! and hey... yulia can only be as much older than me as olya is younger than me?... so...? :-)
> I just got back a month ago, Pete. I am thinking of the summer.
bull: ah... fair enough! i can't wait for the summer now! of course i only ever have eyes for my olya!?!? :-) i think the phrase "eye candy" was invented for ukraine in the summer...
Sorry about that.
Ok I'm off now. Be sipping coffee in cafe Zurich in about 18 hours time.
Just time to get some sleep, get a mornings work in then the cheapo flight out to warmer climes.

Just out of interest I had a look at her personal website (www.tymoshenko.com.ua/eng/) - there are nearly 8,000 photos in her gallery! Cute is an understatement - when she lets her hair down (literally) and smiles she moves from cute to gorgeous. And her daughter Evgeniya must also rate pretty highly in the beauty stakes - check out the photos from before she was married three years ago.
By the way, did you know that she appeared on the cover of the Polish edition of Playboy in May 2005? I didn't until just now, reading an article from a few years ago. Unlike what seems most people on this forum, I've always concentrated on Russia rather than Ukraine, so forgive me if whatever I quote is old news to the old hands!
That's right Pete....it is only 76 today at the beach...my drink was not very cold....only half the normal amount of women in bikinis.....what else could possibly go wrong????
Thanks, auklander. Now, I've seen Auntie Yulya smile. Cover of the English edition of Playboy. Thank goodness it's only the cover or I'd be looking for that one.
Beemer...Cafe Zurich in Plaza Cataluyna. Really nice atmoshpere inside and out.
First time I've been there.
I'm going to start winding down my visits to fsu this year.
