I am arriving in Kiev Friday April 29th. Can anyone give me a walkthrough of what to expect when I land in KBP. Regarding where I need to go after I get off plane, pick up my one check-in, etc. My lady is going to meet me at KBP airport, but currently I do not know where to meet in the airport. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Regards KBP, it's a tiny airport. Check-in, arrivals, restaurants (for want of a better word) are pretty much all in the same draughty open space. Keep an iron grip on your luggage, as theft can happen. The luggage carousels are right behind the immigration desks, then a (very) short walk and you're in the main 'room', where anyone waiting for you would probably be. Be prepared to be approached by lots of taxi drivers! They're not aggressive, there's just so many of them, and the fact you said no to the guy just in front of them who just asked you never seems to register with them, so they ask anyway - go figure! RodanTsunami Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/27/2011 7:19:42 PM   Beginning tomorrow Wizzair will no longer be flying to Borispol. It will fly into Zhulyany, which is in Kiev proper. I begin with this in case you are flying Wizzair, it will pose the only problem of meeting up as it is a change many are not aware of. I think that it will make a more convenient option for those flying from London. Most other international airlines fly into Terminal F at Borispol. The airport is small regardless which terminal and the flights are listed ob the electronic boards in both Terminal B and F for international flights. Domestic flights are in Terminal A. Terminal B is being remodeled for the better inside. If you are taking a bus, you will likely be leaving from in front of Terminal B. You will have no trouble finding your lady friend. You can exchange money in Terminal B and get a sim card or buy a telephone as well. If you are taking a train there are buses to the train station and you can get a ticket at a kiosk in Terminal F. It has Wifi available, however I do not know the cost. It is more comfortable than the general seating and much better than the Internet Cafe many remember in Terminal B. Terminal B has a new restaurant as well, but the construction is distracting and the terminal is still quite crowded. I prefer waiting for flights in either Terminal A or F. The locals hang out in A and it is a little less expensive. durak Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/27/2011 10:59:15 PM   To begin, if the cabin crew on your flight to Kiev hand out Migration Cards (small forms on white paper) -- these seem not to be necessary for US citizens any more, so don't bother with it! The airport's wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borispil_Airport (edit out any spaces in the above URL) has a table showing which airlines use which terminal -- so you can find from this which terminal your flight will arrive to. If you don't see your airline, remember there is a lot of "code sharing" where you book with a major international airline, and the second flight (from their hub airport to Kiev) is on an airline like Ukraine International. You should be able to find this from your reservation. I haven't yet seen Terminal F, but I can give you a picture of arrival to Terminal B. There are no jetways or such, so the planes park on a ramp and the passengers walk down staircases to buses. A short bus ride takes you to the arrivals door of Terminal B. As you walk in, the Passport Control lines are all to your right. Usually there's a big queue. They'll simply take a good look at you and your passport, and pass you through. As you exit Passport Control, the baggage carousels are dead ahead. Also, there are little "kiosks" where you can get and fill out Customs Declarations (not required if you have less than about $140 of gifts). The way out from Baggage Claim is through Customs, where I usually go through the "Green Channel" (nothing to declare). They will want you to put all of your bags on an X-ray machine like those used at security checkpoints, and may ask a couple of questions. After that, it's through the exit doors that take you out the "control zone" and into the bustling main area of the terminal. If all goes smoothly, your lady will be among the crowd of faces waiting to greet arrivals. beemer18 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/28/2011 12:03:13 AM   Which airline are you flying with to Kiev? If it is codeshare with KLM/AF then you will be likely to flying into terminal F, almost everything else is terminal B. Be sure to have a good idea of what girl looks like, lots of people in arrivals area. One time a girl I was meeeting was in a line along belt guide...we looked at each other, eye contact which seemed to last forever as I walked past, before I knew it was her. WOW. What's funny is a guy on the plane joked with me that the girl would either not show up or was missing teeth or looked like Boris, well his jaw dropped as welll as mine!!!!! Its a simple airport. If you get lost there you better take the bus from now on. :) Terminal F is the major international terminal. When you get off the plane go all the way to the left had side of immigration lines. The others arent for you. You will wait in line twice. Once thru immigrations (25 minutes) get your bags and walk thru customs . If you have nothing to declare it will take just seconds (Unless you are very sweaty). Go thru the white doors straight ahead and your driver or who ever will be right there waiting. 25 minute drive to Independence square. Is a simple thing. Have a great time. I was there 2 weeks and I did. bowhunter Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/28/2011 8:40:56 PM   if its KLM terminal F is quite easy to navigate and is a lot less crowded and fewer so called taxi drivers hassling you. both terminals are set up the same for baggage and customs. in terminal F you will have your bags scanned before you enter the actual airport. both terminals park on the tarmac and shuttle you to the terminal. in any of the terminals your girl should be able to look at what flight your on and see what terminal it arrives at. I arrive at Terminal F in KBP. I am traveling via Lufthansa. It also appears that when I leave KBP I leave from Terminal F, as I am flying to Frankfurt for about 1hour 50 minute layover, then off to Chicago, then to Las Vegas. Thanks for the information on the different terminals, taxi drivers, customs, etc – too much to mention – LOL. I appreciate all the great wisdom here. My woman is going to meet me with an interpreter and taxi driver. We will depart KBP and travel to Sumy. The cost is $150 for the taxi round trip, but this is because I am going through a dating agency, otherwise I have been told that they would charge me $180 one way. After several days in Sumy we will travel to Kiev. I think we will take the bus, as the cost is dirt cheap. Has anyone been on these buses from Sumy to Kiev? I wondering what to expect. Ahhhh - - I think I kindda found my answer. I found the Gunsel.com.us website. The buses look much better than I thought, and the chairs I think will do the job. It looks like there is only one bus that leaves Sumy (Sumi) to Kiev at 4:30 pm and arrives in Kiev at 10:40pm. I’m not really fond of arriving in Kiev so late, so I might take a taxi for $150 if my funds are looking good. I’d like to arrive in Kiev by 6pm. On a side not. I’m shopping for an apartment in Kiev for Friday May 6th check in and checking out Monday May 9th. I’m looking at spending about $100 a night possible $120 for something I really like. I’m also looking into http://arendavkieve.com/daily_apartments_tworooms_eng.html which I think has some better deals, but I’m still researching. Can any vets shed some light as to a nice place fairly close to Independence square or any other good neighborhoods? Passangers passangers, But As for me best place to meet is entrance to post office in terminal B or Itallian resturant at terminal F. Have nice time in kiev. Also, make sure that the woman is going to meet you. There are 2 of us that have given you advise on this topic that have been burned going to Sumy. I hope that the other gentleman will send you a personal message as he had more dealings there than myself. If you are traveling alone, I would not attempt a bus on your first trip if you do not speak Russian. Familiarize yourself with the Cyrillic spelling of the cities you are going to and make a copy of the Metro map in Kiev. You can get it on the internet. Though I got burned on my first trip, I learned a lot. I have made many trips since then and with that experience, I travel confidently and luckily on one path. You will be going when everything is green. I travel to Sumy a lot so if you need anything just send me a pm I will be glad to help. What is it, about 5 hours (ish) in each direction, this could be a 12 hour duty day for the interpreter before any evening out together etc. Me thinks you're going to be hit with a 12 (ish) hour interpreter bill before you even set your bags down! Have you attempted to encourage the lady away from the agency, communicate via private emails etc. or might she have persuaded you that everything, pretty much, should be via the agency? There is a bus almost every hour to Kiev from Sumy. Since my lady arranges the tickets I normally take one to Sumy also. I read your post incorectly if it was 150 round trip that's a great price.
