I have figured they have Zander, and a few other pike / perch like fish. Id like to bring him a box of lures from the US. Anyone know what lures would work best in that area, and if there is any other kind of thing I could bring for him when I go for fishing. It only hit me much later after my Yalta visit that there was no signs of the fishing industry. The water seems clean enough. There was good foot traffic. I wonder if government regulations or corruption is responsible. I am used to several seafood stores and restaurants where there are lobsters, crab, squid, octopus and fish. I was not with her when the girl I was with went shopping and came home with one fish. It was pretty cool. They were catching something that resembled a mackerel but it was a yellow greenish white. Some were using a bait and some were jigging. I didn't get much information but I do know these guys were catching dinner. My wife reminisces of her diving for mussels. No snorkel, no mask - just diving off the rocks and swimming down to gather the critters. I wouldn't take anything just for the purpose of trying to impress. As was already stated, find out what they use and go with them to the local tackle shop. After you get a feel for how they fish, what they use etc, in a future visit you can bring something. I'm sure there is room for improvement anywhere. I have caught crappie using a pull tab from a beer can. Yes it works! But they don't make that style anymore. Hell just pack some jig heads and a dozen packs of mister twisters in different colors. Any kind of spoon will work too. Just don't try to get too fancy. See the sea in the background? That is the Black Sea in Yalta. It maybe free, as you say, and you can fish anytime, but there was no sign of the fishing industry, as I have stated. But you probably don't know because you were in Russia and I was talking about Ukraine. If you have been there, you can comment. You can post things like the fishing is not near the statue of Lenin, or it is where the tourists are few. Or even, what are you talking about, there are plenty of fishermen there. From your posts, I don't see that you have been in Ukraine at all, let alone Yalta. I am talking about what I saw, where you have not been. Don't tell me I have no clue because you were not there.
