I seem to appreciate the women that don't use an agency over the ones that do because I look at the pricing and I guess I get sticker-shock over the costs. I've become acquainted with some beautiful and loving women yet once I find out they are with an agency, my interests turn into concern for my pocketbook. Should I just bite the bullet and go ahead and see what happens? I ask this because one woman in the Ukraine and I were writing for a few months, she was without an agency. She seemed wonderful, loving and caring and never asked me for any help with money. We talked about us meeting....then about a week after that discussion, I happened to get an email from another agency list and saw her photos! Different name, different city....yet the few photos she sent me, were in this ad. I wrote an email to her and asked what city she lived in....no reply. I sure sounds like it could be a scam, especially if different names and cities for the same photo are given. There are plenty of other women. Look for a legitimate site (such as this one) for new women to try and contact. It is better to "cut losses" now before you invest allot of your time, money and heart into someone dubious. However, if you really want to verify this woman, send her flowers at her address and have a photo taken of her with the flowers. There are several services that provide this for a modest cost. TimH Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/25/2004 1:17:37 PM   Go on a tour is the best advice I can give you in your circumstances, though maybe you need to realise that you will have to be prepared to spend some money mate, nothing worth having is free !!! It appals me that so many people seem to be worried only about what this venture might cost them !! Even when it is successful they still are counting the $`s to satisfaction ratio !! Life is a gamble, I have mentioned this before, but it works just as well in this context too, "If you cant afford to spend it or lose it don't start the search or send it" !!! And when you find her what is your life partner worth ? Someone said this already, haven't time to check who right now, but his words were along the lines of "Everything he has". Couldn't put it better myself !!! What you must also consider is that agencies don't work for nothing, they work and for their work they expect to get paid !! Many do a fantastic job and if you are not paying them you can bet your lady is, and she Cannot afford it !!! So if you are writing to a lady through an agency and you are not paying them I think you should be grateful that the girl to whom you write thinks enough of you that she is paying them, because sure as sh*t someone is !!! And when you think about the fact that if she has a very very good job she might earn $5 to $7 a day, if she is writing to you every day and having both letters (yours to her and hers to you) translated too its costing her $2 up wards at the very least, each time, thats a huge lump of her income !!! Or if you would rather spend months and months writing, to be dumped because you haven't got off your Butt and gone to see her, try some of the girls on Fiance.com !! The scammers love men who are dithering about whether to go or not, they will play them for months and months. The best tactic when you find a girl you are attracted to, after lets say 6 to 8 letters, start talking to her about going to see her (but don't do this if you have no intention to go, thats cruel !!) if she is accepting and excited about it you are on a good chance of a great meeting and a good holiday during which you can get to know each other better, if after 6 to 8 letters you talk about going to see her and she runs off never to reply again, then congratulations, you just found yourself a scammer, and avoided the scam all in the same day !!! I always put it to a girl this way. "If you were walking down the street and saw a man you found attractive, would you walk up and ask him for his email address so that you could write to him for 6 months before you finally get round to having dinner with him ?" The obvious answer I always get is "No" So why should this way of being introduced through email have such silly games attached ? Personally I get there as soon as possible to meet any girl I am genuinely interested in meeting, before someone else might go there and snap up the love of my life while I'm sat here writing soppy emails to her !!!! Or worse still putting financial considerations before my whole life of happiness !!! "A day not going there is a day wasted !!" Going to see a girl you have been writing to for 6 weeks is Not rushing it !! You are going there to meet her face to face and to see if you can develop a relationship for life with her, why waste time waiting to find out if she is the right one or a wrong one ??? If you do not get to know her in person as quickly as possible then you may never know, because someone else might beat you to it !!!! And if I didn't have to be here because of my damn house sale I would be in the FSU right now !!!! Only about 4 or 5 weeks to go thank God !! Then I'm free to go as often as I want to !!! But what many of these agencies do is steal or trade a girls profile and photos to add to their own. If she is great looking girl who will sell a lot of addresses then this could be the case with your girl. This would explain the change of city and other information. She may not even be aware of what has happened so I hope you were careful in your questioning of her. As for plunging in at the deep end after a few weeks writing.......words fail me......it's not like taking a cab or a bus to see a girl for gods sake.....you are contemplating travelling half way across the world!!!!!!!!!! I see you've left a lot of posts - you should also read the advice from those of us who have tried every which way and found that some have definite advantages over the others. Checkout one of the three most popular tour companies and get their video (A Foreign Affair, Anastasia, European Connections - look them up on Google). AFA do not have the best reputation by a long shot (my opinion),as for Anastasia,have you never heard of the horror stories connected with that company? European Connections I can't comment about,but just doing a simple comparison with any of the tour companies prices reveals a very substantial price hike on the norm. jetmba. If you are suggesting that tour prices in general are more expensive, Drag - you are talking apples to oranges regarding a comparison to any other type of tour you are familiar with. This is a question that would not need to be answered if you ordered a free video from any of the companies listed in my post. For a price of a twelve day tour, about $3,500 you get airfare from the US which (depending on where you are from) would usually be priced at around $1,200 (conservative estimate). That leaves $2,300 left. Hotel is going to run you around $100 a night - an that is VERY typical (especially if you don't know the language, or to acquire an apartment instead - something that requires familiarity or connctions). At 11 nights @ $100 = $1,100. Subtract that from $2,300 and you are left with $1,200. Then there are the Socials. Don't disregard the Socials for they are the most important part of the trip. When I went, outsiders could purchase just the Socials, at 1 for $400, 2 for $300 more or 3 for $200 more. A total of $900. Were the Socials worth $900? Absolutely. And at each there WERE several outsiders who had paid just for the Socials. Drag - imagine yourself with a group of 15 guys in a hall with 300 of the most beautiful women you have ever seen in your life. Ages 18 to about 35, many of whom speak English. Some of whom have traveled six hours by bus just for the chance to meet you. You feel like a celebrity and any one of these beautiful women (each of whom qualified at the 1 out of 20 who applied) is there just to meet you - it is like nothing you have ever experienced before (unless your real name happens to be Brad Pitt or something). Sure you can book airfare and pay for hotel - but you CANNOT just show up whenever and hope to any experience like you have at a Social - it just isn't going to happen. By the way - I know I left $300 unaccounted for above ($1,200 - $900). That is for tying it altogether. Having an English speaking staff person there at all times to help you out. Your trip to and from the airport. Wading through all the little things that you are not familiar with no matter HOW many times you've been to someplace more ordinary like say - Western Europe. (Trust me - these countries ARE different.) The cost breakdown is there. They are a good company for tours no doubt about it. Excellent for the new guy to learn the ropes and make the connections and create a network of helpers for the next trip. AFA makes about $1,000 profit on each client on the tour. Now as you can read in my 26 days post I now travel privately using my network. Yes, you can definitley save money doing the trip yourself but again for first timers the tour is the way to go. Euro connections is a honest company too but thier socials I'm told by many is not nearly as good as AFA's. Anything with Anastasia stay away!!!! Scam scam scam and more scam! dragster Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/1/2004 1:51:35 AM   Jet: I realise that there are many good points for the complete novice about using a tour.But read it anywhere,hotels in the FSU are most definitely NOT the way to go.Firstly they are all substantially higher in price than even a luxury apartment.Secondly have you ever seen the reaction you get if and when you decide to ask a lady back to your room??At worst a little embarrasing for you,but VERY uncomfortable for your lady. As for the socials,a little research done before leaving will usually put you in the picture with many agencies who oragnise these things,or even allow you to make your own schedule with ladies in your area of travel. I know the unfamiliaraity can be a little daunting,but the savings can be tremendous allowing for more of what you want and less of what the "Package tour" thinks you want. deanis: at least someone else seems to be aware of Anastasia....scam is so right!!!! jetmba. Example: I am preparing to visit my lady in Moldova. Through a little research I was able to locate a great (it seemed) apartment for $30 per night on the same street as she lives on - two rooms, all the extras, five interior pictures all presnted by the agent online. When I told my lady she was very much against it and very concerned for my saftey as an American in that part of the city. Seems she doesn't live on a very nice street and the section I chose is especially bad. Atleast with a hotel you get some protection against the possibility suggested above. You receive some security. I dealt, by the way, with European Connections. I have not dealt with Anastasia but have met people in Odessa who did. I heard nary an negative word about the tour company. I understand Anastasia Web is something you want to avoid but again I have heard nothing bad about the tour comapany. (You know ALL of the tour companies have seperate entities through which they list women.) Drag: Where have you been thus far in your world travels. Remember, military experience and touristy places like The Bahamas or Disney Epcot Center do not count. jetmba. Its entirely possible given the fact that they have group, and travel agent discounts. You would have to examine their books to determine exactly how nuch the profit was. But since we as individuals have no similar pricing structure, we can only comapare by what it would cost us to assemble a similar trip. QAnd the only way that we could construct such a trip at price of $1,000 less is to eliminate the Socials. Again. don't discount the value of the Socials. You cannot reconstruct those on your own at any practical price. And one more thing Drag: I think we're getting hung up here a little bit on the stereotype "package tour" idea. This isn't like any "Tour Group" experience you've ever heard of. You are bussed from site to site, in and out of strange hotels, with never a minute on your own, listening to some crackling loudspeaker tourguide telling you what you have just seen. A "Group Tour" here means they book the flight and the hotel for you, and organize the Socials (three of them, usually on the first three nights). After that you are on your own. You get your taxis. You arrange your dates. You spend your time with the girls. If you are there for eleven days - and you have socials the first three - then its eight days to come and go as you please. With the help of a Tour Representative only if you need it and ask for it (and as a newbee you will). If you meet someone and want to stay longer - you always can. You know what to expect, everything is arranged for you, there are no nasty suprises, and if it all goes pear shaped you have someone to shout at !!! And if necessary either Sue or get a discount on another tour !! Trying to save a few $`s could easily end you up in the wrong part of town, the wrong hotel or the wrong town entirely !!! jetmba. So Dragster - which agency did you use - to meet - marry - bring over your new Ukrainian wife. And to have made several trips to meet your wifes family all in seven months. If things don't continue with the lady I am writing to now I will definitely go with AFA next year. Trying hard to get all my dominos lined up right now. I only seriously started with this about a month ago and already I have learned much thanks to the folks in this is forum. I don't necessarily agree with it all but I need this stuff like fish need water. I think this tour thing with AFA is top notch. I think I mentioned in another thread that European Connections also has great tours. They are less expensive - and you do get your own interpreter at the Socials (you don't with AFA) but, at least in Odessa, the hotel is MUCH worse. I have a buddy who took The Eurpoean Connection Tour to Odessa last year - and had "the time of his life". The simple fact is, women from the FSU are better than women from North America. No woman's lib, no psycho babble, and very forgiving and caring. I began writing many women on the site, and I seemed to connect with one in particular. She happened to be one of the very beautiful ones. (Why not go for the best). After 20 or so letters at a cost of around $200.00 (I could easily spend that in one night on a woman from my own city) I decided to fly out to meet her. We arranged a meeting and before I met her I met her interpreter who took me to meet the woman with whom I corresponded with. This was all set up and taken care for me by the agency. (Anastasia.) I had a great conversation with the interpreter on the way to meeting and found her to be very sincere and helpful. When I met up with the woman I had been corresponidng with I was immediately struck with how beautiful she really was. Her pictures didn't do her justice. We went to a nice restaurant and with the interpreters help, we got to know each other very well. Of course nothing is free and the cost of the interpreter the agency provided was $10.00 per hour. Very reasonable. I went out the next night with the same woman without the interpreter and once again we had a great evening. She could speak enough english to get by. When I got back home we wrote each other a few more times and decided that due to some differences between us which could not be rectified that we would go our separate ways. There is no doubt in my mind that the sincerity of this woman and the authenticity of the agency were both legit. I never made any out of pocket expenses to anyone that I didn't deem was fair. Everyone and their dog these days claims SCAM everythime someone says boo. Just because one person had a bad experience, or someone is misinformed, or someone is jealous they don't have the money to take advantage of something good, the obvious solution to save face is that there must be a scam in the midst. The fact is I am going to a tour sponsored by Anastasia in one week and I have already arranged for approxiamtely ten women from Odessa to meet me there. Along with the other 300 or so women who will also show up, I am looking forward to the time of my life! I will write when I come back. Anastasia is the parent company to Anastasia web and Scanna agency. Anastasia Web is for sure in my opinion and experience to be a full blown scam agency. Anastasia the parent company also has a bad reputation but from what I understand they do provide legit tours. But I have also heard of complaints there too. Such as when the guy shows up to meet his girl she suddenly changes her mind and doesn't want to meet you. But Anastasia is quick to offer you some other girls. You will love Odessa by the way.
