I am going to meet in Kherson a woman that I met on this site. My flight lands in Odessa. She has a friend whose boyfriend will provide a taxi for me to Kherson from Odessa for $170.00 U.S., claiming 1)that this is the usual rate and 2) that the distance from Odessa to Kherson is about 400 km. In checking on the internet, I find actual companies that will charge just $120.00 taxi service from Odessa to Kherson and that the distance between these two cities is just over 200 km. I still have time to cancel this trip. Does this sound like a scam? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Where is the scam??? He is taking you from Odessa to Kherson, yes? Expensive, hell yes!!!
Did you ask girl to find a ride or did she offer to find driver? You should always be informed BEFORE you ask for something. Yes, it is just a little over 200km, I don't know the going rate or pricing at moment but you should ask someone like Chris from travel2sevastopol.
You are funny Lonely....do you read what you write/type/copy/paste????
Odessa - Dnepropetrovsk
45 $ 35
You copy and paste without even thinking...like a robot. I am not the smartest guy but even I knew ODS-DNK is MORE than 45km!!!!!!! Or that it would only cost $35 for that ride!!!
More like 450km.................oh, oh.....maybe they forgot the third number?????
I still think I am the only person scammed into a "real" relationship by a Ukrainian girl, me, who had no intentions of being in a relationship in the first place. Couple of years go by before I realized that I was about to marry the Devil. haha. Seriously, she pretended to be some completely different girl, then was some one else completely when we met, using a fake name, fake pictures, the whole gambit,...then she turned out to be even better looking than the fake girl she was pretending to be so I dated her,...genius of a fella that I am.
Beemer,,,, I’m not familiar with “Dnepropetrovsk”! I’ve never been there and I’m not sure if I ever wrote to anyone from there.
The error is the fault of the website, they have been in business for years and are based in Ukraine,,,,,, it’s my belief that they should know more about it than me?!!
I was going to paste just the rate for Odessa to Kherson,,, but then I thought posting the other rates might be helpful?
The OP wanted to know about Odessa to Kherson,,, a drive that I have taken! I couldn’t remember what I paid in 2010,, but I knew it wasn’t 170USD! Scorpio1951 just saved 75USD x 2 and perhaps an entire trip,,,,, as the friend’s boyfriend IS trying to scam him. That boyfriend is charging almost double the going rate,,,, and the site I provided is not always the cheapest. I suspect Scorpio1951’s girl isn’t the most honest.
Blu,,, you most likely met the translator or interpreter from the agency! I’ve had several occasions of meeting a girl that I wrote to, and she knew nothing about me,,,, but the interp and I had the nicest conversation and I felt very at ease with her. Aren’t most of the interpreters single????
haha sometimes i think that all ukrainians think that foreign people are too stupid to use internet :) they give you the highest price always when they understand that you're foreign :) i made this experiment: Rick was talking to the horse carriage driver, i came closer to them keeping silence and looking at this driver like i don't understand any word he's saying, so he said that two blocks ride will cost us $80 :))) after i heard that price my bad Russian came out :)
Scorp, your girl is a scammer if it was her choice of taxi :)
I met a girl last year in Zhytomyr. a 9 on the scale but total self absorbed bitch. ended up ditching her and spending the rest of the day with the translator/escort who later admitted she wrote the letters, had a boyfriend and was far nicer and normal than my "date"
as for Odesa-Kherson, by bus is 80 grivna and takes 4 hours. taxi is about 130. My friend got an american guy a taxi from Kherson to Odesa for that.
I can drive it in 2.5 hours or so and have dozens of times. its only 239km from center of Odesa to center of Kherson
looking at looney's post....
"Odessa - Kirovograd
500 $ 210
Odessa - Kiev
500 $ 210 More info"
I can see they also cant understand that Kirovohrad is closer than Kyiv. $210 from Odesa to Kyiv is actually a good price considering the driver will spend
$100 bucks in gas to make the trip. Its more like $300 but the price to Kirovohrad at 210 sounds right and is about 5-6 hours because of roads.
I did Odesa to my apt in Kyiv in just over 5 hours the other day:)
Scorpio, I have a good friend, Andrei who has 14 apartments in Kherson. 35/night for one room and 45/night for 2 room. many have different themes. Very nice with wi-fi and all close to center. message me and I will give you his contact number. He speaks english.
Well, thank you, fellas. I appreciate your advice. I'm just a bit jittery, I guess. I don't know why. I've been to Russia and Ukraine plenty of times. Maybe that's the reason I'm jittery. Nothing ever happens:) Cheers
I still get jittery each time. "is my car gonna be there when I arrive?", "do I have enough grivna left over from last trip to get out of airport without changing money there?", "is there enough money on my phone to make calls when i land?", "will I be shaken down at customs and have to pay a bribe? did I set aside that money separately so they dont know how much cash I have?"
dont worry Scorpio, its normal. Its a 6000 mile trip!
Rick,,,, you can’t understand why a slightly shorter trip between two cities might cost a little more??
Kiev to Odessa,,, quite likely their most frequent run! I’ve heard the road between Odessa and Kiev is Ukraine’s best highway,,,, the taxi can travel faster,,,, and take less time.
When I used their services, they had drivers located in Kiev and Nikolaev! Odessa to Nikolaev is a round trip for the driver, so is Kiev to Odessa. A trip to Kirovograd could be out of the way for them?
I provided the link for this site,,, I encourage everyone to see it for themselves if they are interested.

Scorpio,,, if you still go to Kherson, check out the Muscat hotel! They have nice rooms, with the fastest internet I have ever used, a bar and restaurant, along with an English speaking staff and an ATM down the street a hundred feet. Beware of the missing manhole cover!!!
Thanks, Lonely Ranger. I don't think it's a question of "if" I go; I'm going. But I don't have any hotel reservations. I'll take a look at the Muscat Hotel site I'll watch out for the missing manhole cover:) It would be nice if she came to meet me, but I don't think that's going to happen. I'll arrive in Kherson around midnight or so Sunday night, and she's working the next day.
Quote From Blu craze-- " a Ukrainian girl...[who I met online] who had no intentions of being in a relationship in the first place...... This happens to me and I did the same. It took me a few weeks upon my return, to understand that she was not serious, or lost interests, but for surely, emotionally unstable for a relationship.
- I learned that...
- If the profile is a fake, something is wrong from the beginning, Murphy’s Law applies.
- I should had picked up/noticed the red flags that I miss out during the 2 months of Skyping.
- No more than 7 days or less for initial meeting in personal; to save my time and sanity, because reality beats virtually.
The Muscat is a nice hotel, but there is one other that is supposed to be nicer,,,, but much more expensive.
The place had good food, nice rooms and a nice staff that cares about your stay!! (smirk)
When you walk down the steps and enter the bar/restaurant,,, they have something like a rotisserie at the far end of the bar. I was there for several days,,, and it looked like the same chunk of meat the entire time. I was curious about it,,, but I didn’t want to take any chances. Maybe you could check to see if it’s still there?? Lol
I didn’t have good luck with the girl I went to see in Kherson. We had wrote to each other for a long time, and when we met,, she didn’t know very much about me. I have since found our interpreter on a scammer watch list. The girl I went to meet was also on over 47 websites. They were with the Veronica agency.
“hotels are for tourists. scammers, pickpockets and other low life people hang out at hotels waiting to prey on them”
Rick,,,, what happened to all Ukrainians are good honest people???
If there is a dollar to be made, there is a lie(s) to be told!
It seems the locals are the worst source of info,,,, they want to make money just like an agency or website.
An apartment that you haven’t seen yet is a big question mark,,, you have no idea of what kind of shape it is in, or it location!
How many times have you (we) read,,,,, it’s within walking distance of several markets and restaurants with wi fi??
I’ve heard horror stories about apartments,,, things are never as advertised. If you don’t like your hotel,,,, try a different one! Don’t pay for your whole stay in advance. I’ll pay for 2 or 3 days at a time,,,, so when (not if) I want to leave a city earlier than planned,,,, I can! I won’t be out hundreds of dollars.
If someone expects to make frequent trips to a particular city,,,, stay at a hotel for your first trip,,,, and check out the apartments for your next!!!
