If you are American or western in general, I would recommend against it as the occupying forces could subject you to any type of
adverse treatment at any time and without any diplomatic recourse.
That said, if you still wish to go then you will need a Russian visa now.
everything has been converted to rubles and runaway inflation and shortages are common.
Well Rick you are semi-right....money has been converted to rubles and social structure is a few years from any recovery BUT I have a couple friends there( 1 is british) and they seem to be doing fine.....no adverse treatment, for them life goes on!!
I was in Crimea March 2014 just before it fell to the Russians. Now that I think back on it some of the people seemed pretty nasty there. I would not want to go there again, even for a girl.
If she's worth her salt she could meet me in Kiev.
Costs for passage between Ukraine and Russian areas could be steep and difficult to obtain. When you have belligerent bordering areas, getting entry is often a much bigger hassle (unless you are into bribing people).
The people of Crimea need foreigners now more than ever,,, they might even think of them as “heaven sent”?… Foreigners are doing more for the local economy than Putin is. I would worry about police and Russian soldiers,,,, cause we are trying to destroy Russia you know?! Lol

they need foreigners in Crimea...hell, they need Russian tourists too! last year Russia offered people money to vacation in Crimea and it
was a total bust and its not looking good for this year either.
Russia made all kinds of promises to Crimea and yet not even one has been fulfilled. sales of Crimean wine are down over 50% as Ukrainians and western European nations boycott.
I have over 2 dozen bottles of Crimean wine in my collection but stopped buying last year, only buying pre-invasion wines which have already tripled in price.
prices for food are nearly double Ukrainian prices
From what I read Putin scored one hell of a lot of popularity points with the Russian people for his seizing of Crimea yet according to Rick the Russian people have voted with their feet and boycotted their annual vacations to Crimea.
So what goes on, what are the facts, what do the Russian people these days think of Crimea as a vacation destination?
Perhaps they are not vacationing because of their economic situation.
I remember the open market in Crimea. Yalta to be exact. My date was shopping with her daughter.
I wandered by myself. I ran into a merchant from Azerbaijan, who asked me if I was American. I said yes and he pointed to his associate at some distance away, walking towards us. He said he was his friend and he looks like me. When his friend got to us, sure enough he did look like me. I pointed at him, he pointed at me and we both laughed hysterically.

Just because a couple of friends "seem" to be doing fine does not mean the Russians will not give you adverse treatment at any time and without any diplomatic recourse. A couple of friends is not adequate to come to a viable conclusion.
Anyone want to try going to Crimea to test whether or not you get adverse treatment?
It comes down to if they can afford it, inflation has hit the ruble hard and since people need to pay more for the basics there is not as much money for vacation. there is no direct access to Crimea from Russia there is an airport and few ferries but no roads or buses. I am sure this will change as the Russian troops are going to take Mariupol in time giving them a road and rail system.
In the past decade, many Russians traveled abroad in Europe and other places such as Turkey, Egypt, etc. In the past year that has dropped by nearly half.
Crimea is not likely to see a big increase over last year and I havent yet heard of any government incentives to vacation there this summer.
From what I've been told by Russians is that for the same money as going to Crimea they can go to Egypt and Turkey and get all inclusive. Crimea does not have any all inclusive resorts. If anyone wants to correct me on that, feel free.
I've been to some all inclusive resorts in Cuba where Russians were guests. They are pigs. They can't handle their alcohol. Many of them drunk lying in the hallway and on the floor. They pile their plates at the buffet like they can go only one time or like they have never been to an all you can eat buffet before.
Vakation in 5* AI in Turkey is cheaper than in 2* in Crimea. Russians don't come there. To go there by car they had to wait in a line fo the ferry for 2-3 days.

This statement is unfair to the Russians who do not drink. They do exist. Go to any buffet and you will find a few who pile their plates, even where there are no Russians around.
