While Pitchka gets all mushy about the first days of March and the upcoming Spring, Lena this morning wrote me a letter telling me to prepare myself for -20 C when I land.
Damn!!
Pitchka's comment almost convinced me to bring my bermuda shorts, beach towel and sunscreen
Ok is this some kind of a joke? I have bermuda shorts packed. this isn't funny you mean I have to unpack again? Should I also dispense with the suntan lotion and the snorkel?
No more kidding ok? Are we taking beachwear or not?
Toad, I'm reminded of that eskimo pie commercial where they have an eskimo talking about how great they are, and how refreshing to eat one on those hot summer days when it get's WAY UP IN THE 20's!
you defenitely don't need beachwear unless you want to try winter-swimming ;)
actually all rivers are frozen now. ice will break only in the end of march.
Ok, I will lose the shorts and the speedo. I learned about speedos many years ago from French Canadian tourists. Of course I never wore them. Then I developed my belly and of course I rushed out and bought the smallest pair I could find. I don't like wearing them because they leave a rash but it is worth it to see the look of horror on elderly womens faces and the fear it generates in dogs. It is the small things that make me happy right Martin.
I hope Marina keeps me warm too but I am not banking on it. For all I know this could be a shake hands and a how do you do. First things first.
Actually I have thermals and some thick socks. I thought I would wear them with the bermuda shorts. Sort of a South Florida fashion statement. It says I am being sensible about the climate but at the same time I wish to remember my roots.
I feel the whole ensemble needs to be topped off with one of those attractive cossack fur hats with the flaps. The whole thing just screams "multi-cultural".
I am tempted to try a Russian squat dance right here in my office cubicle.
I guess you have both the bases covered here I am brit and yank.
I think I am offended though perhaps i should block all the threads.

He is certainly NOT representative of most here........and I was batting for the US when I got a motuhful of him!!!
You know the saying about tarring everyone with same brush I hope....:))
Imagine a Brit wearing bermuda shorts. The stark reflection of that white skin reflecting the Sun onto the ice. Global warming my ass the brits are showing to much leg!!!!!!!!!!!!! and melting the polar ice caps. :P
There is a limit to what I will do. Poetry is that limit.
As for the white little legs, I live in Florida I am not quite so pale as I was when I arrived 20 years ago. Then the glare caused traffic accidents now I am a pleasant off white.
Seriously I have thermal long johns and a pair of Gore tex socks. I am expecting weather. Although I suspect i will be spending a lot of time in the apartment, alone, reading...
She has to work the second week for sure. The child will be at school. And I shall be a stranger in a strange land. I'll figure it out.
