For solar in Philippines, search "Palawan Solar" they have a project there for remote solar panel introduction for the last few years. There is also DIY geothermal pumps.
Yep, my dad had been in the Philippines many years ago and said they had some very unsanitary cultural issues but wouldn't explain. You did..
Do big city people have the same hand shake issue? ;0
I'll make sure not to shake hands when I arrive. ;)
My understanding of a 'Septic Tank' (which I hasten to add is Cockney Rhyming Slang for a Yank, ak.a. an American :) is that it is a tank in the ground that, every so often, a tanker comes along to empty it.
There ain't no tankers on this island, these 'shit pits' are made of concrete, they never become emptied by man or machine and they work on the principal of bacteria.
Trouble is, with the water course only some 0.75 of a metre below the surface, the pits need to be shallow and, as others have done, the waste water from the showers and sinks is being drained elsewhere otherwise (1) the pits will become full very quickly and, (2) the pits need bacteria and with all these anti bacterial soaps etc, we don't want anti bacterial treatment in the pits if we can possibly help it.
Apal,
Put it this way it is commonplace that a toilet has no cistern and, if it does, then it might not work and often a bucket and a tap is provided to tip water down the toilet pan to refresh the content.
Just as an an example, at the (Australian owned) local bar the gent's toilet is a toilet pan, no cistern, no hand basin, not even a bucket although there is a tap on the wall ... and I do happen to make a point of washing my hands afterwards under the said tap.
But these Filipinos are crazy about playing pool, and the foreigners get in to it also, thus they'll go to the toilet, one minute they'll be holding their dick in their hand, next thing they'll be holding the pool cue in their hand having not washed their hands ..... Do you fancy a game of pool per chance?
There are several systems, holding tanks, dry well and septic, mound systems, drainage fields.
Yeah, holding tanks need to be pumped out, so you are out of luck.
What we have here, is one tank that holds you know what, and a second tank or hole that drains. I think by law they are to be pumped out every two years??
Places that don’t have enough soil and are close to the bedrock or water table, use mound systems. Special soil is brought in for the filtration.
The newest method is having a tank or pit with a pump in it,, and then a drainage field.
These shit pits have two areas in them, one for you know what and one to drain away you know what, Aussie chief builder knew his stuff about shit pits that I didn't get too involved, with the new team of builders I have I need to become more involved and ensuring they do some things the way I/we had planned, these pits are supposed to have a concrete bottom in them but do that and they'll fill up very quickly!
But, since we re-started the build just short of two weeks ago we're really pleased with the progress, they're now building the interior dividing walls whilst rendering all interior walls, most of the hardwood door and window jambs are made and in place, just a few more bathroom window jambs to do, they're installing the PVC bathroom jambs and doors but we only have five out of the ten we need at the moment ... can only get five in the van at a time and that involves removing the front passenger seat to get them in, girlfriend and me shall be returning from the mainland on Thursday so, whilst in the island main town, we'll order whatever other supplies we may need whilst inviting the aluminium window people to come and measure up for twenty windows and quote a price.
I'm heading to Cebu City tomorrow. Things not so well with me and my Ukraine fiance at all. She is too young for marriage and too immature for relationships.
Maybe meet some Filipina before heading out to points unknown, perhaps head back to New Zealand in a few weeks. Never met many gold-diggers in NZ. The culture there just isn't set up for it.
Well the start of another week, still 'fighting fires' regarding availability of supplies but, somewhat fortunately, there are such a wide array of supplies we need I'm managing to keep the workforce going.
At the moment we have no roof batons for the carpenters to progress with the roof, fortunately the carpenters can 'mason' also so whilst we wait until later this week for the trees to be felled and cut etc. at the end of last week I did manage to get a reasonable price on 150 sacks of cement to keep the men in 'mason' work.
Today, once we're up and about, we'll head up the land, we're off to the mainland for three days w.e.f. tomorrow so need to ensure they have sufficient supplies before we go ... the sand is running a bit low so might need to get some more.
Then, hopefully, once we're back from the mainland the roof batons will be going on then girlfriend and I will be fetching and carrying, in the van of course, the thousands of nipa's we're going to need for the roof. Once that is on, and the masonary by then will have significantly progressed, hopefully we'll be able to fit the external doors, bring in the window people to fit the white aluminium windows that they've already started making and start doing the tiling then the fitting of the shower rooms.
I don't believe you. Even if you are right (which you are not), even if 90% of the people of the people around Martin use drugs, does not mean Martin is into them.
Well, this evening, back in mainland city no. 1 after a trip to mainland city no.2 of last evening and much of today.
Actually had a ride in a Philippines Police (Pulis) truck this afternoon, girlfriend was sitting up front chatting away with the driver whilst giving traffic directions whilst I was chilling out down the back bantering away with two other cops.
Still endeavouring to buy the supplies we need, in no. 2 city we managed to buy 10 of the circuit breakers we need for now, just need to buy a further 4 from somewhere if we may find them ... still getting blown out on the floor tiles we need although I've had a positive result on the masonary neutraliser we need.
Right ... just finishing off my last San Miguel of the evening whilst girlfriend is watching some shit on Philippines TV ... then off to bed, tasks to complete in the morning before catching a boat back to the island.
The difference is your lies. If you are going to go after me, Martin, LR and anyone else in this forum, you would have some credibility if you told the truth. But, you make things up. What fool would believe anything you say? Do you even have a wife or the cars and boats you claim to have? Who would believe you? I certainly don't.
That I grow and sell to kids and that my daughter has nothing to do with me are other things you've made up. That's just like saying who would guess you would have sex with kangaroos? You are full of fantasies about how great you are and how lousy everyone else is. If you don't have evidence, you make things up. My evidence is here, on this thread. Whatever you say has no credibility. You are full of sh*t.
