My Big Bear 400 almost got me killed a couple times because I had to downshift on a steep side hill. If I had an automatic I wouldn't have rolled it over my head backwards while trying to climb a field to see if it was deer or a human crossing the field in the moonlight. My buddy didn't come in untli late after dark. And I headed out to search. Turns out he stayed in stand because too many were grazing after light by him. As it happens, my great grandfather was a Union soldier, in at least 5 of the great battles of the Civil War. Over time, both the Constitution and its interpretation have moved in the direction of expansion and protection of individual liberty. In my opinion, this is a great thing. The United States protects freedom of religion in ways that people in most countries could only dream about. BTW, many religious idiots don't understand that the the intention of the establishment cause (separation of church and state) was to protect churches from government, not the other way around. By keeping these institutions separate, we ensure that no religion can become "preferred" in the eyes of government. In my opinion, this is a great thing. There is nowhere in the constitution that says separation of Chruch and state, that was penned by Thomas Jefferson when he was thanking the Baptists for their support in his election to the presidency. His decision to try Islamist Major Hassan in a military court martial, as opposed to federal court. Obama no doubt made this decision for one very good reason. If Hasan is convicted and if he is sentenced to death, only the President of the United States has the authority to ultimately condemn him to the gallows. Not so in federal court, where a federal judge has this authority. Hasan will live a fairly good life at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He will be afforded three halal meals per day, meals prepared in accordance with strict Islamic purity laws. He will be allowed to pray five times per day; visits by an Islamic Chaplain on demand and of course, he will have his Koran, Haddith and Sunnah as well as any other Islamic texts he might demand. He will have the right to wear Islamic garb and will be allowed to grow his hair and beard per Islamic customs and traditions. He will likely have access to Al-Jazeera TV, Islamic newspapers and other publications.
