Adrenaline is my drug of choice. Either a car, motorcycle or Plane it doesn't matter. It's a part of me my lady just doesn't quite understand yet. I told her one of the first things we would do if she came here was go to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which is about an hours drive from my home. Then maybe she would understand a little about Americans love for racing and motorsports. The kids around here have their imports tricked up, but I am just old school that prefers the V8 Muscle cars. I have done the Petty Driving experience and The Dale Jarrett racing experience. Jarretts is a little better, no lead car teathering you and you get to let it all hang out. Unique and I gained a new respect for the Nascar drivers, if you don't think it's a physical sport just try it once, it will change your mind forever. On a funny note, I must be in love, I passed on going to Daytona this year for my Trip to Kiev in January.

Daytona is great for the legend of the Race and gives us idiots that live in the snowbelt a reason to catch some sun. The real must see race is the Saturday night race at Bristol Tennessee, if you sit close enough you will by the end of the night have black on you from the rubber from the tires. 43 cars on a half mile track and you can see everything Americana at it's finest.
Sunday is the begining of Kart week in Daytona. I always look forward to the first day (Sunday this year) as I get to race on the big speedway going way too fast with my butt 3/4 of an inch off the pavement. Totally wild getting up on those high banks near the wall. After Sunday I will shift to the dirt at the municipal stadium, but others will continue to run the big speedway. Many of the karts will turn more than 135 mph. Crazy without a roll cage or seat belts, but....
Then I have to be home to leave for Russia on Wednesday. What a week! Very cool to be working in the garages and working and starting on pit road. Everything is new this year in the infield. Can't wait to see it.
So you run the enduro or shifter karts? I played with the sprint carts about ten years ago, the big thing where I live now is the mini winged sprints with 600 cc engines, it's pretty cool and the the best five bucks I spent to watch a race. 135 laying back with your butt off 1/2 inch qualifies you as an adrenaline junkie.
Glad
about ten years ago I got to meet a man from your neck of the woods who was an early hero of mine in F1, I was in Gasoline alley during
carburation day at Indy and got to spend about 20 minutes Talking to Jackie Stewart. As a kid my father would drag me down to Indy every
year, so that is where racing became part of my blood. The Curator of the Indianapolis Hall of Fame museum is and Englishman who forgot more about racing than I will ever know, he took a group of us downstairs to look at some vintage cars that were not on display. Jim Clark and Graham Hills cars where there. The Beatles weren't the only English Invasion into the US.
No, I won't do the enduros...I don't want to be laying down while racing!!! I will run with the national road racing guys at Daytona in the narrower and longer sprint style karts with a 4-stroke. A little slower than an enduro or shifter, but still a thrill. I finished second in my class last year, but the race isn't that exciting. Much better (closer) racing at Sebring. I really prefer running the dirt 1/5 and 1/4 mile tracks. Now THAT is racing!
The first lady I communicated with from Ukraine dropped me like a hot potato when I sent her pictures of me racing. Guess she was not a race fan? My new love has some interest and likes my racing pictures. She even wanted to watch an F-1 race that was on TV when I visited her this summer. For a girl that doesn't own a car she knows a lot and can tell me every model of car that drives by, especially those awful Lada's.
You certainly met one of the greats there Mike,Jackie Stewart was one of the best and the hardest racers that has been in F1.A very direct guy by all accounts but still a gentleman until the lights went green!!
He is still heavily involoved with F1,and has just succeeded in saving the British Grand Prix for another 5 years at least, after a court battle with Ecclestone.
I envy your metting with him!!
He was an absolute gentleman and talked with my friends and I like he knew us for years. He is a credit to the sport of motor racing and his emotional character and love for the sport cannot be duplicated by anyone. It is a moment as a racing fan I will never forget.
