There is no crash course for you to take that can give you the basic know-how that comes with extensive international travel. Most of us here who have it got it over decades, not months or weeks of globe trotting. So the next best thing you can do is keep a heightened state of awareness and keep telling yourself: "...I'm learning something new every minute of every hour that I'm far away from everything I know..." This mantra will keep you enthused about everything strange you encounter along the way, eager to learn how people of the world manage to survive WITHOUT the 'american way' and safe from the pitfalls that come knowing little or nothing. You'll be ok. Learn how other veterans of the forum have done it and choose the most suitable way for you to do it.
