It is a very long line here in the states so that is nothing new. First of all my dear Annika, not many of us are under this illusion or delusional about what will transpire. That this is this perfect union between two people, though the cultural aspect of my Ukrainian fiance is far more appealing than what is here in the states. As a point of dreams and reality, there is a fine line. You my dear are pessimistic and one that probably thinks reactionary as to why. Where I am an eternal optimist and say Why not? Old traditions in the CIS countries are changing and as the economies improve things are becoming more Westernised and so are attitudes to family and work. The young girls in the 20 to 30 year age country and more so the 20 to 25 year age range want to move away from the old traditions and family values hence they lookt o the West for a partner because they want the modern and better life..not be impoverished in the former USSR with kids. Dont belive this marriage agency hype that young Russian girls want to stay at home and have babies..this is utter nonsense. They don't want to leave high school and go and work as a sales girl in a shop or serve burgers and fries down at McDonalds in Red Square..they want to be educated and not be dumb! They are much more adaptable than the Russian man who has not coped with the fall of communism and the free market economy and who have turned to alcohol because they can not find a job! Also for a girl that does well in high school, University education in the former land of the Soviet Union is free and opportunities exist to get a better education, unlike the West where university educations cost thousands of dollars, spaces very limited and beyond the reach of many families as it is unaffordable..Russia and the CIS have the best and free University education system so this is why the young girls ahve batchelor degrees..it is ingrained in them to be educated and do well at it and is a sense of pride in what is a terrible economic enviroment in which they live! I would be proud if I married a Russian girl and she was a Doctor..my wife the doctor because in Australia you will rarely get a young 25 year old girl with such a qualification..most are only high school educated and dumb! This si the explanation as why all the young girls and most women have University qualifications. The academic curriculum is much more demanding at all levels than what we find in most western countries, specially US. And unlike those hard to find educated and physically attractive western women, FSU women are NOT full of themselves because their higher education allows them to outclass and outperform their peers. When I came back from siberia and went to parties to show off what I found many were worried about Lena's transition to a new language and alphabet. Few failed to be completely shocked that at age 27, Lena professionally translates five languages and three different alphabets. toad aussieman41 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 4/5/2005 9:29:10 AM   The Soviet Union disintegrated in 1990..it was a communist society where everybody was gauranteed a job and the higher up you were in the communist party ( your social status ) the better the job you had. But things have changed and I think the country that will change the most in the next 5 years will be the Ukraine under President Yushenko,as this country will move more closer to the West. Attitudes are changing as people are freer for most part except in such hard line regimes as run in Uzbekistan, Moldova, Belarus etc...some of these former CIS countries are run by presidents and officilas from the Communist Party old guard and unfortunately we will have to wait for these die hards to die off in the next 10 to 20 years. In Western countries,women are having babies at a latter age as you have to work as the man can not support a family on one income because of high taxes and cost of living. Russian women are mystical and different..they don't understand mortgages, credit cards and all the financial crap we live with in the West, Annika..it will be a culture shock for a Russian girl to come and live in the West and she will adapt but it will be better if she works than be isolated at home on her own as a "desperate housewife" I think a lot of Russian girls especially the younger ones will want to work and not be content with being a house wife in the west..its boring being at home all the time..I get bored with it and so would a Russian girl. To leave your Russian bride at home and bored as a house wife is a recipe for disaster! And in Soviet Union too both parents worked!! Other way you starved!!! Did you lived in Soviet Union???? Did you visited country called Soviet Union. You seem to think we handnt any financial troubles in Soviet days:) :) What about quality of education of Soviet Union or FSU its all depends what kind of University you finished..its huge difference between Moscow University and some crappy college (institute). So all these very educated girls actually might be not be very educated...if somebody says shes doctor or lawyer smart person askes what university she graduated. Some private colleges in Russia are absolutely crap! And produce unbeliveable stupid bimbos. As it is huge difference between Harvard and some small town college in USA. But its old rule if person finished UNIVERSITY its higher level. I mean Novosibirsk University, Moscow University so on...Private universities are usually for rich and stupid. Smart kids are in so called state places in State univeristies and they dont pay for it. Happyness or unhappiness in relationships is so often defined by the eye of the beholder. All the other things in life are superficial. Many of us myself included visited the USSR before the end and find the hearts of the people to be unchanged. Traditional values are values not deplomas or bank accounts. But not all were able to win, those who didn't win, could either wait for another year or study for money. And there was a special loan possibility, you make a contract with a bank, it pays for your education, but you pay back this money during 20 years after your graduation with a very low year %.
