Out or curiosity. do you or does anyone know whatever happened to Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. Is he still playing aroung the UK or retired or what. I have all their music . Just wondering
If you guys would have to move into a Russian village!:-) For some of you it would remind of jungle training camps in the mountains, for others it would be a nice example how people lived 200-300 years ago.
Well, make her understand that countriside in Russia and US differ. And explain that people like living in a safe rural comunity not far from a big city as it is better for a family.
Up to 70% of people here live in towns and cities with more than 20.000 people in them. A town with 10000 is considered a damp and it tells much of your life level if you live there.
Well, in general I don't envy those who will have to break his new wife's life image in the states. The first year will be harsh. By the second year noone will ever make her leave the states. Izi, she WILL miss the snow, it is a part of our soul. By the second year of life togeather you will see and hear it yourself. All my Russian fellows that live or lived in the stetes(usually in warm stes like nevada or Florida) all told that they began to see dreams with snowy Russian fields and forests. But anyway is it a problem to have a week vocation in Michigan or Wisconsin?:-)
I have heard of them all. Also I'm a big Pink Floyd Fan, when I listen to their music I want to burn one, On saturdays in my heathen
youth I would load up the bong, Put on Wish you Were Here and clean my house. John Mayall still rockin' at 70 years old. There was so much talent out of that era. Alvin Lee is still performing but as a solo act. Goin' Home live at Woodstock had to be one of the most energizing performances he ever did. The English musicians who discovered the delta blues turned it up a notch and rock and roll was forever changed. Mick Taylor will always be one of my favorite guitarists from the Rolling Stones. I could practice for 24 hours a day for the next 20 years and never be as good as Mark Knopfler from Dire straits. If you want to hear an incredible album, get Neck And Neck with Knopfler and Chet Atkins, just incredible stuff. I was a little pissed, the week before I arrived in Kiev Deep Purple had performed at the Palace in Kiev, damn that would have been good. Oh
well actually Patricia Kaas wasn't bad, actually I enjoyed it, couldn't understand a damn word she said, she sang in French Mostly. One song she did in english, God the Ukrainian women go nuts over her.
Some of our friends from Oz would/might have similar considerations.
???
And, by the way Texas would fit neatly into a corner of Western Australia.
With plenty of room to spare..
no, not a clue even. And IF I was UK then the first bloke I'd look up is Ian Anderson. I'd pester him until he'd talk to me, and then first I'd crap all over him for a) writing crap albums too b) for stopping touring. We all have favourites, and by Jove, Jethro Tull is mine. Never seen them, will do even silly things now to see them once.
Nas,
know them all? Then next time you're in the shop, on the fleamarket or wherever - I'll even settle for a vinyl copy of Beggars Opera! I've got a Linn Sondek here (which I will NEVER sell!) so no worries, it'll extract the best of even a crap copy.

Do you just want the music or is the album important to you? I am sure I can get you a CD of the music. I use WinMX. I have very good luck getting just about anything I want.
ONE,
When you finally get to Machu Pichu in Peru, go prepared to trek the mountains for at least 3 days before arriving to the citadel.
If you go all the way riding the train that takes you from Cuzco to Machu Pichu you will arrive at the base of the peak where the ruins are...not exactly the best first view for this world wonder.
When you follow the Inca Trail you come from the north and the citadel appears below you as if by magic.
Take your sweet time to enjoy the view from above the place. And if you're a worthy man, the Inca god may bless you with a view of the famous double or triple rainbows.
Plan to arrive very early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the 'gringo' crowds with little more to do than go around taking photos and saying "How nice, how beautiful.."
I lived in Cuzco for almost 6 months and ended up being an Inca Trail guide for many groups of europeans.
Do everything in your power to 'miss' the last train back to Cuzco and walk the 1-2 kms distance to Banos Calientes following the railroad tracks. The natural hotsprings there are the best treat for any well trekked pair of legs and sore feet.
Lena and I are already planning many of our international travels for the next few years.
Machu Pichu is high on the list of places to take her.
as far as I know they made only one album, same name as the band. Vinyl, and I have been unable to find ANY cd, for that matter we can't buy anything else than run-of-the-mill here.
I'll give you an example: Leo Kottke made several albums, every single one with a different, and obscure, label. One specific album (12-string guitar) I did order at least 5 times, at 5 different chains.
Zero, sorry, pity, no can do, forget it...... you get the idea. Then I go overseas, Europe, and the FIRST shop I ask STOCKS it!!!! Yeah, I was happy, but to shop for music I expect to buy here, not a ticket first.
Beggars Opera (no idea where they're from) was similar to Ekseption (Dutch)in that they took classical themes/music and 'raped' it (according to my parents :) - but what a stunning music it still is. Both my tape (cassete) & player are ageing, and of course the 'real' thing would be ideal to have.
Bottom line: Yes please! Music, not album, but in a format please which will withstand time better than tapes.
Alora Gringo,
already planning to show the world's wonders off to Marina? You see, THAT is what makes you detested by small wonders here, because all know you'll do it too. Any progress with the redtape?
Oh, and Aloha too :)
MP3-format is at an audible quality loss (on my system, really). WAV is super, with a proper D2A..... ah well, you know that. I'll refund any cost, and Mike, of course same goes for you, anybody in fact.
It is one album I MUST have, I'm one-track-minded I admit :)
I remember bidding on some very rare speakers once (Apogee Stage's). Running the risk of making an arse of myself - my bid was highest, for such a long time even that the owner & me made plans already how to ship them here.
On closing time, which is American of course, some seconds before closing two bids (undoubtedly by broadband, not my s-l-o-w dial-up) were put in, and I lost by a mere $5. That's unfair competition Dale, I simply can't.
But I still will have a look, but the mere fact that it is auctioned indicates (but by all means educate me) it is frigging rare music/albums?

Let me see what I can do because if I do this it will cost literally a couple of bucks. I do it all the time and I have very sohisticated software for working on my audio stuff. I do my own stuff from tape to CD and have done for years. It is a hobby of mine. I can also get it to you via the web virtually instantaneously. Then you can do the burn yourself. I wil work on it.
Yes I am fully expecting to continue my travels with (I hope) my new wife and daughter. Time will tell on that one. Probably the pyramids in Mexico first it is easiest. Then maybe Oaxca - Monte Alban. You never hear about that but it is as awesome as Teotihuacan. Guatemala would be nice with a plane ride into the jungle (The Tikal) and Lago Atitlan. Then there is my country England, France (if we really have to), Spain, Italy and the far east. I wouldn't wish Morocco on my worst enemy. Scratch that. Hey, we could always go and see NOR.
Plenty of places right here at home to discover first though.
Incidentally NOR and I had a good idea. I will share it i another thread.
Toadie boy I knew you were watching like a frog on a log. :)))
you're talking about floooking expensive relocation again? Ah no, thank heavens, visits :) You're at an age (same like me, no diff) at which you want to settle, and one of the signs of this is you're in the market for a partner, a permanent one. I'm sure most here will recognize this, and if not it's valid for me.
And I've moved already in my life, substantially so even, and would be reluctant to do it again, now. I've got too much now, am deadhappy here and like it too, and for some reason I've assumed (a dangerous word :) that same goes for you. You've seen places, moved and are there now, so I would moving with her once she gets there a really bad idea.
So much for that, music - I'll pay, but please then send me the carries (I presume cd) also. You guys in super-civilized US simply MUST understand that some places in this universe do not have broadband (I've HEARD about it :), and some gig downloaded into it will get lost or will get past my dial-up. Facts? Effectively 4K per second Izi, no joke - and that is when the net is humming!
Mail, courier, whatever you want, but in a circular format pls.
What amazes me is that both you and Dale seem able to find this music - the world is surely not the same for us all I suppose ;-)
I will work on the music. If it works out I will mail you a CD if that is what you wish.
Regarding moving no way jose. I already did that and that is finished. I am talking about traveling for pleasure. Vacations. I live in South Florida. It is the jumping off point for flights to Latin America and the cruise ships. To get to Mexico City is an easy thing. Same with Peru. Going to England isn't that bad either. The last thing in the world I want to do is relocate right now. Not even to another state.
However unless things change for me I will definitely be changing locations when I retire. I will not be able to afford to live here anymore, not in the style I am accustomed to. It would mean a trailer park in central Florida. No thanks.
My spirit is a little more adventurous than that. Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam or back to Russia for me. That is a definite.
"I would moving with her once she gets there a really bad idea."
I agree but I must go where the work goes. For electronics South Florida is a one company location. I would have to move north to Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville or Atlanta GE.
