Actually riding dirt bikes in my youth has saved my ass a couple of times on the road. I miss those good days of Heikke Mikkola, Ake Johnnsen, Roger Decoster. The bikes today are faster, but engineered to make the ride easier. More Travel and lighter bikes. Back in the 70's when you rode in the open class, you had to muscle a bike. Today their isn't even an open class anymore in the states. 250cc and that's the max. My cousin Kirk had a 501 Maico and that is the only bike that has ever made me nervous to ride. It had so much power I had a difficult time keeping the front end down and it was a 500cc. I also miss the European influence in motorcross these days. I used to be a big flat track fan and go to the Indy mile and watch those crazy fools ride side by side power sliding in the corners at over a 100mph. I'm back watching the superbike series again. Those guys have huge stones between their legs. Hell I'm such a junkie I'll watch about anything with a motor race. My greatest thrill was racing against Mikkola in a ProAm race, well I really didn't race him much, the gate dropped he shot out like a rocket and I didn't see him the rest of the moto.
that really sounds like an special combination you've got there. It proves that Deutsche Grundlichkeit is not a new concept. If Rommel had them in the desert then I'd choose for those colours. Minus the Swastikas hmm? ;-)
So Nas,
you also think a real 500 (2-stroke) is too big on knobblies? It is over the top in fact, the IT490 everybody could roost simply because there is power anywhere - but if it hooks up you're gone :)
I'm a firm believer that roadriders should practise offroad as well. I never did until some 10 years ago, and if something unhooks now I'm already busy correcting before I get a fright. Touch wood, sofar it works...
Yes Td,
My father captured and rode one for a while in North Africa.El Alamain and Casserine Pass, Tobruk if i spell correctly. Yes , no swastika and good chance to be desert paint. What i find really entertaining is what my father told me about the British . He said when they finally had the break out and was chasing the Desert Fox the British pulled over for a spot of tea LOL !!!!!! Please tell me this can`t be true. LMAO !!!!!!!!
