and the whole process of delivery would take 30-50 minutes :) why do people always try to make simple things so difficult??? And I bet I will find people like me in every city of Ukraine.
Ok. For a long time I didn't lose my temper and haven't taught people life... But this boy drives me crazy.
You know, in the poorest areas of China a riksha will drive you 20 km for 1$. In the poorest regions of Ukraine a hungry boy will deliver a bunch of bad flowers to a girl making 2$ on it. All this will leave the poor district of China and Lugansk what they are, not more. Jeff, sorry, how much a taxi costs lets say in New-York? And how much is one petrol gallon? See what I am driving to? You don't complain that youi live in a house which costs lets say 300,000 while I bet its self-cost is 30,000$. You won't curse a cabman for charging you 20$ for 3 miles. You won't deprive a waitress of a 3-5$ tip. Why? They all need to live on something. All American economy is based on one principle - "I pay much for your service today, tomorrow you will pay much for my service. We are f...n reach guys and live in the states!"
So what I as an economist with a University diploma always say to people complaining that prices are always rising:" Don't complain. As long as the people will be ready to keep the pace with the prices, everything will be fine and we will be becoming reacher. As soon as we'll get cheap food, clothes, services - we are on the Mongolian level".
So, now tell me what reason will it have to set a "reasonable" price on this lousy flowers letting Oleg earn 2$ for having this site, paying 5 managers in Ekaterinburg, offices in Moscow and USA, taking the responsibility fo receiving payments from your credit card which can be charged back at your first word, and 2$ for let's say this boy in Lugansk who will run around the city looking for the cheapest flowers, then go on foot to this girl, call her before this, make this photo, spend time on sending the photos and so on. Does this make sense?
And a small lecture in flowers. I used to have a flower shop for 3 years but then quited this as this business is too nervous. So believe me that flowers that come from Holand, Equador and Poland simply can't cost 1$ retail. This is their average wholesale price and of not the best ones. A florist in any city in FSU sets the retail price 200% from the wholesale one. Expencive? Yes, but remember that this price is roughly cut by 10-15% each extra day when a flower is not sold. It loses quality and so - the price. Finally around 10% of the whole party either go to the litterbox or are sold less than 20% from the wholesale price. 1$ is a price for local 40-50cm long roses. Nice gift for a 13 year-old girl.
So guys, if god gave you the gift of living in a country where it is normal to spend 100$ for a dinner at a restaurant, bear this gift with dignity and don't let yourself down with this stupid wish to save 20 bucks on your girl.
I went through this a long tme ago in another thread. I sent flowers in Ekaterinburg via another local agency and shaved about $20 off the price. They delivered more flowers for less money with a better quality photo. So it is possible. I did this twice. There was nothing wrong with the quality of the flowers and they did a good job with the delivery.
It is great that you agency owners are making a profit and creating employment etc. However there is definitely an element of gred in there. You cannot justify a bunch of flowers costing $100 to be delivered. There is absolutely no reason for it and all I see here is the proverbial squirming. One guy is trying to take advantage of another and then justify it.
It is like the $5.00 for a hotdog at the ballpark. Absolutely no reaso for it except greed. All the 'explaining' in the world will not comvince me of this.
So I will say this to you Alexander. If you can put this off good luck to you. I worked for a guy once who kept burbling about Rush Limbaugh and how competition was the American way. Until he actually got some then it was a different story. Just bullshit and when it came to the crunch he hated competition. He was cheating people, ripping me off and called it 'business'. Typical. So a good line in patter will never convince me that the prices being charged are real.
Anyway regarding this place you get plenty of monthly fees there are other money making thngs going on why not throw your customers a bone and treat them fairly on the cost of some flowers. It isn't much to ask and would do the credibity of this and other sites the world of good.
felicedate, it seems that you think only about money. Ok, most of the girls in the States do... And where are you now??? Men from the USA are searching for girls from Ukraine and Russia. It is no reason to ask you why, because it was disscussed here many times.
Felice ,
Tell us about the profit sharing plan you have established for your employees and the employer employee matched contribution fund towards their retirement.
Alexander if you can provide high quality service for such low prices - good for you! I sincerelly wish you good luck to establish your own business. start with checking prices for advertisment on the google for example, (because you are not allowed to advertise here at fiance.com forum). and only when quote your prices. as far as I know one day of advertisement costs 400 there :).
As soon as someone will have a company with representatives in hundreds of cities he will probably set his own prices. Everybody is free to look for an agency in a taken city to arrange a cheaper delivery.
Izi, you just eliminated one link in the delivery chain - fiance.com. As for me I would also deliver everything at a lower price in our city but such is life, fiance.com is an organizer. They are employing managers, administrators, programmers, pay office rent, taxes, advertise their services, organize payment verification process. They spent 8 years on finding agents in hundreds cities throughout all FSU and they are responsible for processing all the deliveries bearing full responsibility. Whatewer you may say, it costs money. If you have time and enough risk in your blood for trying to find a cheaper local agency - this is your right and I happily admit that it is possible.
What a fair price for this 12 roses.
An average price for good roses will be around 2$. let's put 2,5$ to leave some place for an agent. Plus 4$ standard delivery charge(delivery+photo) and, sorry, not less than 10$ as his remuneration, if people like Alexander want to stay beggars for the rest of this life - it is their choice.
And plus processing fee, and fiance.com remuneration which should be on the same level, around 15$. So finally we have around 60$. Want cheaper? Either look for some suspicious guys in each city or send her money with a nice note "Buy yourself 12 roses".
Yes Felicedate I did eliminate one middle man. You are right and I will continue to do that until the prices drop. I have used a reliable local agency in Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Kherson. There seems to be a popular train of thought that maybe 70% of all local agencies are in some way crooks. I am starting to really disbelieve this. I have been fortunate to have good experiences with 3 local agencies.
I think it is better to use a centralised agency clearing house like Fiance.com to gather addresses and focus on one particular lady but once that is done switch to a local agency for your specific needs. It is just cheaper, more personal and there is no substitute for local knowledge.
It boils down to money. There some guys out there who have plenty of spare cash and convenience is more important than money. If they want to send some flowers for example they just do it and are more interested in speed and ease than what it costs. These are the same guys who spend $2,000 for a personal matchmaking service without leaving their desk and even traveling.
However the majority of people are not going to do that they will shop it around. I appreciate you business point of view but as a guy paying the money out I couldn't care less.
When I go to the supermarket I don't care about the problems of that store, only what they are charging me. If it is too high then I will go somewhere else. I don't expect the manager to come out and start explaining to me the problems of supply and demand, shelf life, advertising etc. That is not my problem. Also it is a natural reaction from him to say to me that the other supermarket sells inferior goods and that I should be grateful that he is there for me.
Clearly that would be nonsense. However that is what is happening here.
I will say this though that it is a bit brash of Alexander to come into our forum and use it to drum up business. That is a bit cheeky. However I can't help smiling at his nerve. :))
Still I guess fiance com is not dropping the prices because there is no particular need for this, by the way I wouldn't do this at their place as well. Freedom means choice and we all chose.
We run 5 different web-sites and I preffer to orient business on the people who are not looking for cheaper services. 1) I don't want stupid competition in the lower market segment where hungry boys like that guy from Ukraine are trying to cut each other's throat in chese for 10 bucks 2) I don't like dealing with clients who will bargain to death for the same 10$. By the way this is why we almost never deal with Germans!:-) This is not a nationality, this is a diagnose!:-) (spirit, sorry).
Well, may be this is a matter of approach, I am the guy who never counts change at a shop and I want to deal with the kind of people.
Yes
There is a dividing line. For example people in America in restaurants etc hate dealing with English people. They don't tip so it is assumed that they will not tip you. Therfeore waiters and barmen can be rude and unhelpful. I am English and I have been an American waiter so I can attect that this is true. However you take the rough with the smooth.
Some people are generous others will argue over a dime. Sometimes it is national character other times they are just cheap bastards.
This approach of wanting to only deal with the elite is very prevalent in South Florida. They however are in the minority and the ordinary folks are in the majority. I don't know how many stores and restaurants I have seen go out of business because they only wanted to deal with the elite. Those that don't count change etc. That approach is completely valid and I don't criticise. I just think that there is a place for the little guy in all this.
On the consumers side though a sense of proprtion about all this is needed. For example there was nothing more disgusting to me than when I was in Guatemala and seeing an American or European haggling over nothing with a market vendor. Beautiful textiles going for a song and they think they can get another $1 off it just for fun. It has taken that indian woman maybe 2 days to make that wall hanging and she only wants $10. It isn't a game it is their livelehood.
So I see both sides. Personally I will shop every last dime. It isn't because I am cheap it is because I am not rich a big difference between the two.
Price has very little to do with the purchasing of a service or an item. It is a part but not the most important. Also keep in mind the market will bear what the market will bear. First of all you better count your change in Ukraine LOL! Also Felice there is no such thing as stupid competition. If that is your attitude then you have a bit to learn about free markets. All competition in a certain market segment should be watched and learned from. For example I sell bearings and power transmission products to industry here in the states. Many of my competitors have the same product, so why should they buy from me? Price only? I don't think so, but I still watch the competition that sells a certain commodity that I represent for a lower margin than I am willing to sell it for. The key word is sell. Then I try to figure why the user has bought this from them instead of me. If you start lowering you price to saturate a market then you create profit problems for everyone. The low price will soon be forgotten after poor service is rendered. Also the one that thinks his widget is the best and is not willing to compromise on price is subject to the same but diametrically opposed dilemma. I've always taken the postion that I will not be the cheapest or the most expensive but I will give you service and value for what I sell. The key is to deliver beyond expectations the the issue of price is taken out of the equation.
Nas, you are arguing your own words. You say, there is no stupid competition and actually I was ready to read a fierce passage that "the stronger the competition is - the lower the prices - the more goods I can buy". This is a customer's approach. Luckily I see you are yourself in business and I read an absolutely good explanation.
One small thing, all the competition in the US and in your market segment is like competition between the Democrats and the Republicans, a lot of fuss but finally little difference. We are talking here about one very dangerous thing. See, let's say fiance.com delivers some gift for 70$ and some guy in the Ukraine proposes to deliver it for 20$. This is destructive. It is like the US and EU governments' decision this year to limit textile imports from China drastically. A wise step, first some John Smith will be extremely happy buying a T-shirt for 5$ instead of 25$ but hten his brother in the crowd of thousands people working in the textile industry in the states will lose his job.
In the FSU some markets are still very unstable, one jerk with no understanding of the situation will explode all the segment with his stupid behaviour then become a bankrupt himself asking himself "Why did this happen?" In the 90th there was a good approach for such guys - a killer's bullet in his head, now this works really seldom.
Unfortunatelly, many people here are not ready for the free market and civilized competition. US won't compete with China on some market as the states are in the worst possible position.
