Rhino,
I went to see a Lady from Mariupol and from what you describe she was probably from the same agency. My comments are directed to the agency not the lady so don't misunderstand. The interpreter charges are a scam. As soon as you agree to the request that the interpreter for Mariupol accompany your lady the next request will be for planefare around $150 round trip each. Then you will need to supply her with lodging and meals. So if you stay at the Sherborne you will have to rent a two bedroom for $165 per day. Follow Ditto's advice and say no and hire one that he recomends or the Sheborne has very qualified interpreters on staff I think for $10 per hour.
You hit the nail on the head there. She sent a letter stating for airfare for the interpreter as well ($75 each @ $150 for both of them to travel together) I guess that's how some of these agencies make their $$$. I just found a few sites on the net offering interpreter services for about $8 an hour.
Ryan
It will be interesting to know what her reaction to you saying no to the Mariupol translator is. I figure the translator cost me an extra $1000 for four days if you figure $400 for her cost, having to rent a larger apartment, plane fare, meals, and drinks. I think Nas ran into the same request but I think his lady ran interference for him. He can elaborate more on his experience. In contrast, the lady that I am in communication with now has her own computer and no agency and every time I suggest we do something she says fine but lets do it this way and it will cost less. She tries to save money at every juncture.
wmferg,
Sounds like you have an honest woman . I had this same crap thrown at me from a lady from Melitopol. When she said she wanted to meet me in Kyiv and not her hometown for bullshit reasons she threw a price requirement at me in dollars without even considering my thoughts . She was only an 8 hour train ride away and i said i would pay first class with sleeper for her and her interpretor. She said no way.I am sure her agency came up with these sky prices and requirements like it was the arrival of Queen Elizabeth. They wanted cab fare to Zaporozhy from Melitopol round trip of 100 dollars to and from airport. They wanted to fly round trip for her and her interpretor at 250 dollars a piece They wanted their own seperate apartment from mine with two bedrooms and they found one for 165 dollars a night for four nights . All in lieu of a train ticket for two that was no more than 100 dollars from me . I asked her if she needed shopping money also and she said yes . I asked her if she preferred very expensive restaurants also since i am paying for everything and she agreed without a doubt . Well, i also, told her that the money was sitting at the Western Union in her town also and it was not ...............
Watch it Ryan , this is a business to these women and agencies . Unless you have money to blow then go for it. A women who is really interested will ride the train as an an example. My ex-girlfriend in Kyiv taught me the ropes very well in four visits. She is a city guide and interpretor and travels extensively in Ukraine. She is a wiley fox,but she did not outfox me.......
A little follow up JMO, I went to visit the same lady a second time in Feb. this time there was no interpreter and I asked if she needed plane fare from Mariupol to Kyiv, and she declined and rode the train, economy for I think it was 13 hrs. It is my opinion that these agencies twist these ladies arms to make them ask for the expensive services on the first trip. Unfortunately things didn’t work out between her and I and when I hooked up with Lena and saw how she works to save every penny she can for me it was a real eye opener.
Bill is correct. Larissa did run some interference for me on the agency issue. The underlying background is what disturbed me the most. If you are dealing with the Mariupol Marriage agency here is what I have to say about them and it is mostly good. One their girls are real and legit. Two they are expensive through them about 80 bucks a month to correspond with a girl. That doesn't give you carte blanche to their site, that is for only one girl. Two girls 160 bucks I think you get the picture now. When I went to Mariupol the first time I was going to go through their agency to correspond with Larissa, they were honest enough to say, I would be wasting money and Larissa's times since she was only corresponding with me. They did give her a bunch of shit for only writing me and complained that I wrote too many letters since fiance.com is a clearing house they don't pay to the scale most agencies get for translating for their girls. Though I do like their attitude towards finding their girls a partner. I asked why was it so expensive. I was told by Lyudmila the reason is because they want to weed out the "Keyboard Romeo's" and find these girls legitimate men for marriage. They state on their website that they are a marriage agency if you are looking just for dates please find another agency.
Now what bothered me and I didn't realize this until my second meeting with Larissa in March. I asked her if she missed going to the agency to get my emails. She said No very strongly. Then she went on to tell me why she was upset with the agency process. For the fairness to the agency I will not publicly say what Larissa said to me, so if any of you guys want to email me off the board I will share this information. Though as it goes, I will give it a 4 out of a scale of 5. You must understand what the agencies are their for, They are profit motivated. End of story!
Now just to share some things with you. Larissa bypassed the agency to meet me in Kiev. We had talked many times on the phone and our communication was difficult at times, but we understood each other very well. Also Larissa didn't want the third wheel, she wanted private time with me alone. It's just not the 100 bucks a day and the room, they work you for paying for the translators meals and etc. So we discussed to meet in Kiev and she didn't want me to discuss this through email. Well we met and it was spectacular. Yeah, we had our moments of translation difficulties but it all worked out fine. Since then Larissa has been taking english lessons and their adaptability, at least hers is incredible how quickly they learn, yes, she makes some mistakes but now we very seldom use a Russian/English dictionary.
Also, fly your girls to Kiev unless they just don't want to fly. The train from Donetsk to Kiev is a shitbox. It's about an hour and a half Taxi drive and it will cost about 280 grivnas from Mariupol to Donetsk. Also they can fly from Mariupol to Kiev but it has only one flight a day and it is early in the morning. They can take a bus from Mariupol to Donetsk also, cheaper than a taxi but not as comfortable for the girls. So if you need information on a good Taxi driver for your girls in Mariupol, I have the name and cell number for Sasha, he drives a nicer, but older Toyota Camry, he is very punctual and helps the girls with everything. Depending on where they live in Mariupol it's about a 30 to 50 grivnas ride to the airport in Mariupol. Depending on the exchange rate the airfare to Kiev is roughly 60-75 dollars. They like to go to Kiev and you will understand why when you go to Mariupol to visit their home. My last trip in July was to Yalta with Larissa and I high encourage that visit. The ladies love Crimea and it is a carnival atmosphere there. It is a little more expensive, but worth every dollar. The scenery is beautiful and the history of Crimea is very interesting. You can fly from Donetsk to Simferopol for about the same as going to Kiev. Then it's about a 200 grivnas ride in a taxi to Yalta. We took a Taxi from Mariupol to Yalta because Larissa wanted me to see the country side going to Yalta. That was about 700 grivnas and a 6 hour taxi ride. Had a great time and saw much of the country side and living conditions in Ukraine. Have a great time guys and enjoy and if I can help in anyway please let me know.
Thanks for all of the information guys, this is exactly what I'm dealing with. I sent her a letter yesterday stating I didn't feel comfortable paying such a high rate and on top of that paying for lodging, transportation and meals! It's just not going to happen. Then she sends me a letter today stating that she has been told stories of a friend who went to Moscow to meet a man and he insisted on using her interpreter and not hers. Apparently what the girl said wasn't translated correctly...I just think the agency is taking advantage of her. She said she wouldn't feel comfortable telling a stranger some of these things about her life, family and worries. I can understand that she has been working with this interpreter for over a year and knows her well but that extra $500 + (food, lodging, airfare for the interpreter) can be spent better elsewhere I'm sure. Hey anybody going to be in Kiev late September, I'll subcontract interpreter services to you!! Maybe I should start my own agency there, heck I'd make a lot of money! :)
Mike, could you please email me more about this mariupol agency and what Larissa dealt with. It would be greatly appreciated! I think I should give Maya a call, through a different company, to see what is going on...
From the way you talk, I would love to go to Yalta. She said this would be great but only if I could afford to do so...I like how she is concerned with expenses that way but totally sold on the interpreter idea.
Rhino,
Just a suggestion for you…if you can get her home mailing address then write her a letter explaining your thoughts and concerns about the interpreter and any other concerns that you wish to bypass the agency for. If her English ability is not up to a level that she can fully understand your points then use one of the services that offer “human translations” and have the letter translated for her. I do not know if this site offers this type of service or not, maybe one of the moderators can jump in and advise. If not then I know that Elenas Models does. It is a little expensive for this service but if you have a real connection with this lady, I would think it worth while. Keep in mind that she completely trusts the agency people, that’s what they count on. It will probably be difficult to change her mind and I don’t think you can do it writing letters to her through the agency as they may translate the letter to their benefit. As far as the phone call I am not sure if I would trust her understanding your concerns completely unless she is fairly proficient in English. I have not had much success with phone connections to Ukraine, they have been very poor with high levels of static. This would make it hard for native speakers to understand each other let alone trying to solve a delicate situation with inherent language barrier.
I've spoke with her via interpreter on the phone before. I also have her address so I might just do that. I just sent another email stating I was inflexible with this unless these were all-inclusive rates. No unexpected extra costs. And if airfare was included, a negotiated deducation will be settled before any services rendered. I just don't want to be taken advantage of. I understand these are not non-profit organizations and that revenue is the guiding force behind any business but after what you guys said, I feel these are unethical business practices. Certainly in the U.S. it would be construed as such.
Yeah I'm assuming the agency will translate the letters to their benefit; I stated in the letter that I hoped the letter would be translated accurately and that I would follow up with a phone call or letter. So we'll see what happens.
:) the interpreter in Lugansk is 5 USD per hour... I came back from the Azov Sea yesterday... And I was in Mariupol on my way there (it's just 20-30 minutes from the sea by car)... There is nothing interesting in Maruipol... very high air pollution. By the way, I paid just 13 USD for my round trip to the Azov Sea from Lugansk and back. Apartments at the sea cost about 20-30 USD per night. Food is cheap, discos are very close...
this happens a lot in Mariupol, espceially with an agency known as "Canodros Marriage agency" or CM agency. Very subtle but a lot of women as in cahoots with the translators to earn more.
Rhino stay at home in your bull pen...you will be happier for it..don't get involved in this...save yourself the pain of getting burnt...these Ukraine femme fatales will burn you..very few honest ones.
in odessa now and getting ripped off i guess im paying 100 for a 5 hour translation from anastasia.com how do i find a local because without the translastion im lost and cant really do anything. not only that the translator needs a taxi to get to me and the cab is like a hundred dollars american a day. any suggestions?
lol! and i guess i am lucky. olya speaks really good english as do her friends and she's afraid to leave me alone in case i get lost or something! :-) /pete
It sounds like you have been taken for money bags with two legs and they feel the most important thing for you is to lighten your load. I'll pm you an email address and phone number. It isnt local either but may give you some ideas. Worst thing is that you probably do not know enough Russian to even find any thing.
But a big problem is that Interpreters are bad news no matter how cheap they are. Eye contact is so important in your meeting to reassure your lady of your honesty and I have tried for the life of me and cannot maintain eye contact when an Interpreter is in the triangle nor can I keep a ladies eyes. You have to get that Interpreter out of there to proceed with a relationship.
