Don't get me wrong. There are Mercedes, BMWs, Lexuses, and similair cars GALORE in Moldova - just like in every other FSU country. But not many big SUVs like a Hummer.

"...Other thing is russian women really dont like stingy men. Thats why they write generous. Im always suprized when men ask in borads for cheapest transport and cheapest accomodation to travel to look brides in Ukraine/Russia. I dont belive they have luck!..."
I fear you are right!
And here lies a problem!
Some of us look for women who do not need to be impressed by un-necessary spending.
Lots of western women have the attitude mentioned in the quotation above. We don't need to go to the FSU to find that.
Yes, I do check the bill - even in the supermarket!
And I do think before I spend money.
Funny enough: I have heard numerous stories about rich people who do the same. They are often the people who created the wealth, while the next generation have more 'generous' spending habits.
Perhaps I am in the wrong place here.
By the way:
My ex always "went down from the top [most expensive] on the list" to find the most expensive we could possibly afford (sometimes not!), while I "went up from the bottom" [lowest price] to find the least expensive item that met the criteria.
Needless to say we had some disagreements!
Jet,
I do not agree with you at all about the so called "cultural differences" that make an russian, or FSU, woman want a filthy rich man.
Spoil rotten young women all over the world do not speak for or represent the majority of the women out there seriously looking to be an integral and productive part of a family unit, not just a well kept spending machine.
For the most part, I have only talked to women who are responsible about money...because they have to work hard to get it, keep it or make it stretch to provide for their needs.
That's where you might consult with your dear friend Geriatrix about the need to discover your woman's spending habits before you even think about coming to visit her, lol...
What I was specifically refering to was the tendency among CERTAIN Russian women to take exception when a man looks for a less expensive airline ticket or compares prices in the grocery store. These women DO EXIST in greater numbers (it seems) than in the west.
I was NOT talking about ALL Russian women as is evidenced by my quote.
"To ME this suggests that the typical Russian woman (who acts that way anyway) isn't just looking for someone with a comfortable lifestyle - they want someone who is FILTHY RICH."
I will always source the cheapest, combined with convenient, method of air travel to visit Ukraine, indeed anywhere, of course my wife knows this and respects me for it, air transport has been my work for 26 years thus it is a habit, indeed a hobby, that will not go away.
But, when I am in Ukraine I will travel locally by taxi, not to display any wealth, not to show off, but because I don't want to spent my limited time in Ukraine waiting for a bus or whatever.
A previous girlfriend, in Uzbekistan, would always haggle with the drivers and if they wanted, in her opinion, too much money then she would send them away, I didn't get a say in the matter!
Reasonable economy it is good. The majority of Russian women has got used to save. And it confuses nobody. Women are afraid of another. They do not want to marry with the miser. Between thrift and avarice a big difference. Life with the miser it is humiliating. It is even more difficult to live in the another's country. First time the woman completely depends on the husband. If the woman should report for each dollar (such yoghurt can be bought not for 2 $ and for 1,5 $) it puts her in awkward position.
Harridan,
The entire field of home economics in any given western economy of an industrialized country is much more complex and diverse than the cash system most fsu people live by.
Your example is oversimplistic and narrow minded since it depicts a cost conscious person as a miser.
Money management techniques and preferences is one of the hardest bridges to gap between east and west.
GLTALLTOAD
Yes distinctions between our countries is big. Though Russia quickly adopts the western way of life. But such situation to not like us. We do not like to live on credit. And now us force to this. Problem in the other. A problem in character of the person. If the person does not know something, he can learn. But if the person the miser, it as illness. Such people are repulsive both in Russia and in the West. They are in any society. They meet both among poor and among rich. This is so misfortune, life with such person.
No, it is *not* that some of the girls mangle the English language.
I can live with that. After all a lot of native speakers do that too.
I actually think the girls write what they mean to write in most cases.
I think the attitudes and the opinions about the gender roles are very different...
