Soviet Union was very young state, established in 1917. Before that was small Russia what took over other lands with different nationalities. Yes nationalities mixed, but it was lots of hate between different nations. Russian hated jews, chechens hated russians, armenians hated aseris, western ukrainisns hated russians,usbeks hated mesheti turks and so on. Right now georgians are sent home from Russia, african students are killed in Russian university towns. About Baltic states (where I live I better dont speak:)) Do some reading, gossips from stupid ladies magazines dont educate you! If you are liberal woman, what ever it means, try to be better informed! Even Wikipedia helps. Nobody dont brainwash smart person (woman or man). Arabs and Soviets were allies. There is discrimination in Russia but it is due to Chechnya. After Sept. 11, Arab students chose FSU and Eastern Europe for higher education over West. I've never heard of any objections if a girl took a boy home to her family. But that's not the welcome they get at the American consulates.
