As for Lugansk yes it is true parts of the city are very run down and areas of the city where apartment blocks are look like they have been hit by a B52. As for this guys girl asking for money for her travel expenses that would set alarm bells ringing for me based on my previous experience. Those specializing in women from the former Soviet Union (FSU) have LOTS of scammers. Ukraine is particularly rife with scammers, even by FSU standards (look at per-capita GDP for a clue as to why). And Lugansk has a terrible reputation, even compared to the rest of Ukraine :( But all this doesn't mean that there aren't women with sincere intentions in Lugansk. Welcome to the thrilling roller-coaster ride of FSU dating! If all of her photos are gorgeous, this is a bad sign -- but not proof. If in her first two or three letters she sent several glamorous photos, and freely used affectionate language, then she is very likely a scammer -- but this is not absolute proof! One simple test is to copy a decent sized sentence or two from her first letter to you, and paste it into the google search control, being sure to put double quote marks at the beginning and end. Either they won't respond to your questions at all, or will answer with short, empty platitudes. I used to think that showing a child on the profile was pretty safe (i.e., scammers like to show themselves as glamorous and without any attachments that might slow down their targets' fantasies). But recently, I have run into several who did show children on their profiles -- possibly, they are getting more sophisticated. I had some training in France for four days starting Monday. Didn't have to be back to work until Tuesday so about a week before I flew to France I started looking for a woman to meet in Kiev thinking I could fly to Kiev, rent an apartment for the weekend and meet up with a few ladies. I got on the website ukrainedate.com and sent out a few feelers. One came back, cute, single, no kids, teaches music, knows a little English.. lives in Kovel. Ok.. I'm good with that. We message back and forth a few times and I tell her that I will come to Ukraine in about 10 days and does she want to meet. Sure! she goes on to suggest that we meet in Kiev. Great. I reserve an apartment and give her the address. She said she would meet me in the airport, never asked for money, only the flight number. Class is over on Thursday. Friday morning I'm on the plane to Kiev. She meets me in the airport and wow.. much better looking than I got from the photos. A nice hug and off we go to the apartment (there car picked us up) It's a one bedroom, I take the couch and she takes the bed (for the first night).. long story short.. it was a fantastic weekend. She had very good English. We walked, talked, rode the subway (my shirt got caught in the door, thought I was dead!), had coffee at a sidewalk cafe where all the artists are set up and visited some very old church that was interesting. That was almost a year ago.. we've met three times since. Once in France, twice in Kiev. I'm headed back in August and I'll spend some days with her again. Wonderful woman, sweet, smart and so sexy, pure woman. Her emails never cease to amaze me. I can never go back to American women. I tried a few times since. What are they thinking?? Fat, stupid, bad attitude... One Ukrainian I know here in the US told me.. she sees two men in the household.. only one looks like a woman, but that's a subject for another post. As for Lugansk yes it is true parts of the city are very run down and areas of the city where apartment blocks are look like they have been hit by a B52. As for this guys girl asking for money for her travel expenses that would set alarm bells ringing for me based on my previous experience.
