Well I took the advice and it seems to be correct, you can not keep your car longer than 2 months in Ukraine. To extend you either have to cross any border, or get transit number-plates, (expensive although I have no figures on this)
(Not Hearsay Martin - AXA International car insurance available from theAA in the UK: UK insurance 900 GBP, International ONE YEAR valid to Russian Federation: 1500 GBP. Ask them for a quote Martin - its a free 0800 no!)
Beanstobe,
What has the Russian Federation got to do with taking a car to Ukraine?
When it comes to a matter this serious, and yes, I have had a French registered car of mine 'confiscated' from me in Luxembourg for supposedly some infringement of the law (assholes :), I would definately get it from an official authority and preferably in writing.
I've mentioned previously regarding Ukraine police attenplting to fine/bribe me for attempting to take an imitation firearm (cigarette lighter) on to an aircraft in my checked-in luggage. Well because they were talking aviation security law I ran circles around them and, in not so many words, I told them that they were bullshitting.
Imagine taking a car to Ukraine, getting stopped by police to be told you have committed an offence and they're taking your car from you, what do you do? Don't you think it would be prudent to be sure of your facts having gotten the facts from the horses mouth?
OMG now we are an aviation security law expert. You recruited Pilots moron. Your about an expert as much as you know gun laws and the American constitution. By the way what Happened at Betts Aviation? You freaked out when you thought I was going to show up at your door? Did you get your ass fired for spending too much time on the internet there? Martin Leaders don't need to embellish only insecure people do that.
Can someone explain to the liar and bullsh1tter that I have only been doing recruitment since only 2002, 1979-2002 was working in airlines and being required, amongst many other things, to live & breath aviation security.
Whatever happened to his other ridiculous allegations that I am 56 (ish) years of age, that I cheated on my wife before we were married, that I have never been to Ukraine etc. etc. etc?
Oh yes, it's common practice, as soon as he is proved wrong he will never admit to being wrong or being a liar, he will quickly move on to another set of allegations that become more and more ridulous with each one.
Kirkland,
I'm not haranging anyone, the 'aggresive one' pollutes one thread after another in his 'chase' of me as he detailed in his PM of 02 March (below).
P.S. Between you and me I think he has feelings towards me and doesn't want to believe that I am straight and married to my beautiful friend ..... but don't say anything :)

I will continue to prove you are the liar that you are until you admit the truth.
good day
i have a question i am a foriegner in ukraine with a resisdent permit i want to know if its possible to import a car registered on my brothers name in the united states to ukraine with a power of attorney issued buy him to me, i want to know if its possible to import this car on temporary import so as not to pay the import duties since i will not be using it here up to a year before relocating to britian can anyone help with this?
If you bring a foreign car into Ukraine you need to take it across the border every 90 days. If you're just planning a visit to Ukraine, that's not a bad option. If you plan to live here, it's quite expensive.
It's amusing to see so manyh comments that Ukraine police are not corrupt. I've lived here for four years, and haven't met a straight police officer yet.
I have a car (purchased new in Ukraine) and I had to pay a $500 bribe just to register it. I have been stopped many times randomly, and anything from 20 Gryvna to 50 Gryvna will get you off. The cops here are all corrupt, albeit polite unless you're in real trouble.
Only the major highways are in good condition. Get off them, and the roads are in a sad state.
The road toll in Ukraine is also terrible. Ove 500 people die every week on Ukraine roads. Many of the vehicles are unsafe at any speedj. It is normal for drivers to purchase a licence from a corrupt official, so don't expect any high standard of driving skills. Nobody knows road rules, which is why there are so many accidents in built up areas. People turn from any lane, and the general rule is: if you hit anybody with the front of your car, you are at fault. If your car is hit from behind, they are at fault. Anything on the side, and the police will say each pays their own repair cost. Unless you're a foreigner, when suddenly you are at fault, no matter what. Drive very carefully, and expect to take a lot of evasive action.
Having said all that, I think that Ukraine still is a great place to live. There is much more here that I like than I dislike.
You are a foreigner, currently, in Ukraine, you want to import your brother's car in to Ukraine but you will not be using the car in Ukraine before you relocate to UK in 12 months time.
So, why do you need to import the car in to Ukraine if you are not going to use it there?
i know its posible to bring the car into ukraine without paying the tax for 2months but i dont knw about using it with the power of attorney here and cant seem to find anything about it online i know russians and polish can drive thier relatives cars to ukraine on a power of attorney but dont know if it applies to all
Where does that figure come from? It seems awfully high.
Roughly 800 people die per week in the USA - and the US is considerably more populated than Ukraine.
Only 791 people died in traffic accidents in all of Holland in 2007 - thats a little more than FIFTEEN per week.
I am very aware of the recklessness of Ukrainian drivers, having been there many times and I am also very familiar with tthe bad condition of the roads - but I would like to know where your figure of 500 deaths weekly comes from.
jet,
there you go danny, I'm talking to myself again!
jet,
I recall one time crossing the dam in Zaporozhye a Lada had crashed coming in the opposite direction and the sight was awful, literally a blood covered body slumped over the steering wheel, and it was so bad that whilst covering my wife's eyes I looked away.
Well it must have been a good 10 minutes later, by that time we were in the Irish pub, that we heard the ambulance going past on it's way to the accident and my wife explained to me that the ambulance has little, if any, life preservation equipment on board, is it literally and merely a method of transport to the hospital and, by that example, arrival at hospital and initial medical treatment could be some 45 minutes after the accident has happened.
I don't know what the statistic of road deaths is, as one travels across country there are relatively few cars on the road, the city roads are nightmares, but a lot of it could be down to the older cars, with less safety features, that they drive and the lack of medical attention once an accident may have occurred.
"jet,
there you go danny, I'm talking to myself again! "
Haven't been reading the forum while I was away - but I take it by this that master-mind danny has decided that you (Martin) and I are the same person? Is that right?
Well in that case "we" not only TALK to ourselves - but we've also shown a tendency to verbally beat the crap out of ourselves in the distant past anyway. Its clear danny has read the archives in this forum.
Martin is everybody in this forum. He has multiple personalities and until recently this forum only existed as a means for Martins various identities to keep track of each other. That was only until RECENTLY. Now the forum exists solely for Martin and his multiple iterations to constantly torment danny (and his multiple iterations).
I should know, for I TOO am one of Martin's personalities..... or one of danny's.
martin
