People do not get confused. In Ukraine there is no middle class. There are the rich and the poor.
Poor live a life absolutely different than the rich ones.
You are a foreigner. Are you going to live like a rich Ukrainian or a poor Ukrainian?(remember there is no middle class).Probably you are going to live as a rich Ukrainian unless you choose to live in a rotten soviet era small apartment without toilet and water all the time, away from center and buy food from groceries and clothes from the bazar, take the marshutka and the trolley and eat at inexpensive students' bistros. If you do all the above, the effect on your girl's attitude will be rampant except if she really likes you.
The other possibility is to live as a rich ukrainian. You take the taxi, you eat in expensive restaurants, you buy clothes from shops and you live in apartment in center. So now you have to pay the prices that rich Ukrainians have to pay. They are high because they are formed according to their income(since there is no middle class),the demand is inelastic.
Everything in Ukraine costs more than in the West unless you take a substitute like most Ukrainians which will cost the same. There are huge customs to pay to import many goods, there are bribes to officers needed, there are monopoles and oligopoles, there are always agreements between firms to increase the prices mutually,so the competition which would lower prices practically does not work and Ukraine suffers from huge inflation(over 15%).
So Let...what is it called if you take taxi's sometimes, usually walk or use metro, cook your own breakfast and eat at non-expensive restaurants, not buy any clothes but yes, live in apt near city center????? I see food prices are less in ukraine..... beer is dirt cheap. You show 2 extremes, I sure there is something in between.
I don't prepare to pay anything...just do things as they come. If girl wants more,'let' her find another fool. To me, the best things in life are free...anything bought is just swaying the issue.
most of the designer stuff you see is fake,..fake armani fake d&g even fake nikes and adidas trainers they look just as good but of a lower quality and dont last....
Beemer18 from what you write it is obvious you stay in Kiev because this is the only ukrainian city with metro. So if you stay in central, not soviet apartment, you probably pay a lot.
Most people who come, have only one week-10 days free.Let's say you are dating a girl.
1.Will you take her to taxi or by metro or will you let her walk to her home?
2.Will you take her to eat in an expensive restaurant or in a cheap restaurants or in Mc Donalds or better in a canteen to avoid all expenses?
3.Will you take her to a central, prestigious cafe or get her to buy a cheap beer and drink together on pavement seats?
4.Will you go with her to central shops to shop or will you take her to bazar to buy sth cheap?
If you dare to reach places by using the marshutka with her, eating dinner together in canteens, drinking beer on road and buy together cheap stuff in bazar, then you are in good direction because you will spend as little as possible and you will have avoided the gold diggers. It will be also a great holiday enjoying the charms of the marshutka.
colin $ co. Talking about prices. There are few boutiques here with "normal" cloth which I mean look more or less not fake. And walking with Quesi i decided to turn there check what they sell and prices.
so.
there was Sonya Rickiel (I'm not sure if that was full collection, cs all things were in single samples)well,
black trench coat - 2000$. how you like it? no leather, just sm waterproof material.
hm.... and I think....
1) who the fck will spend here 2 grand for piece of cloth.
2) if smbdy has 2 grand to spend on trench coat, why th fck to sprend in Poltava, if for this mny you can travel even to Italy and buy smth decent there and come back.
3) <aybe Sonya Richiel doe cost 2000$ but how can I (e.g.) trust that for this mny I spend I get last trend but not smth thrown away from WU boutique from last season?
so. make conclusionts.

Kharkiv has Metro. Poltava. We have this market, cs they are crazy about guard and protect their chinees shit as if they sell gold. After you pay, they make you wait diging bags you just paid for.
Let...I spoke not only of Kiev but Odessa, Nikolaev, Kharkov,Simferopol,Yalta and other cities. You are right used metro in Kiev but all other facts same in every city. Last time in Kiev, girl did go home on metro, on her own decision, I did ask if she wanted taxi. I try to use regular transportation as much as possible but you have to use taxi's sometimes( late at night, day trip in Crimea). I even used the train couple times to cross ukraine..it was my choice...wasn't most comfortable but I enjoyed the experience. Kind of interesting to haggle prices with taxi's in broken russian, usually girl I am with asks me not to speak english while in taxi( I guess price goes up).
As far as your 1-4....I always offer for girl to get taxi but I guess they get home same as if they were with friends. I just want restaurant with good ukrainain food...I'm not out to impress someone by eating at expensive restaurants....usually end up at mid-level food places. Much time is spent walking around, at parks or seeing cathedrals and stopping for juice or ice cream and chat. Since I like sports..maybe taking taxi to bowling alley or ice staing rink. Do look through clothing shops, I like to see taste of girl but hardly ever buy things. Maybe I am cheap...but i really get to know if girl has an agenda or not. I don't know what a 'marushka' is.....is that overcrowded old falling apart buses??

Two different places.
Went to another Mega Mall today – Klitchko’s (boxer champ) complex. This place had a good range and some shops specializing in the Top Label stuff. And you guessed it, plenty of the lovely’s around.

Yes the fake stuff is here alright, my wife is a clever shopper and so far has not fallen for fake copies with her Kiev purchases yet. We see heaps of it coming into NZ from Asia now, its not hard to pick out from the genuine stuff.
It is becoming clear that borrowing and booking up on Credit is in full swing here now, and I suppose given the fact that apartments are worth good $$$ and most don’t have a mortgage on them - some debt can be carried ????
Question Maxi....only older folks own their apts from pre 1991...what will happen to the generations after this who don't have assets from apt???? Who of them can afford any costs because earnings are so low....rent apt for rest of lives???? And something I have been told by older ukrainian girls(mid 30's)...that husbands always have a young girlfriend on the side. You think that is true?
What’s happening here in our apartment block with neighbors and friends etc is – sons & daughters of the 1991 apartment recipients are living with parents and/or selling if large (3 room +) and putting parent into a 1 room apt and buying another for selves. Neighbor next door sold husbands mama’s apartment and did this but renting the second apartment out at $800 per month and they (husband – wife and 20y son remain living with wife’s mama.
Also, as parents stop working, they shift out to village Dacha and leave daughter or son in home apartment. I personaly do not know of any one buying and taking out mortgage to procure their own apartment, but I am sure it is happening to a lesser degree, but they would have to be on good $$ in their work. A lot are making good salary now, as I said b4, $600US for check out operators, so telecommunication/advertising/marketing/ and dear I mention the under world income generated still by many !!!!
I think very pessimistic about the system of allowing/providing Credit here. It appears to me (but I am not at the coal face) that obtaining credit is easy and very available to most, but at what future cost. If they are using apartment equity to borrow against, then I think a lot of apartments might end up in the hands of the lenders ????
Re “husbands always have a young girlfriend on the side”
It is very common, and you could almost guarantee that all married men with business and $$ will have 1 or more. I do know this goes on for sure. That is what I was getting at when I said above that the pretty ones are not short of cash and dress to the max etc etc !!!!!
I salute Sir Paul !!!
He really put is all into last nights concert in Independence Square. We were all set to head off, and the heavens opened up big time !!!! Poured down for 3 hours, I am a bit pissed we didn’t go, because watching it live on local TV made me regret not going. He played non stop – not even having a drink or break for 2 solid hours. He arrived via train from Moscow – mixed with common people and was hands on setting up stage etc.
Very impressed with his whole attitude and also the following he got from Ukraine people, all main regions had their own “on large screen “ concert, which of course all had brilliant fine weather compared to our shocker !!!
Not bad for 60+ and not taking any $$ for it himself !!!!!!
Dam – it would have been a great “wet T-Shirt” viewing also :- ))))))
Bring her a bottle of coke as a gift when you go to Ukraine, its expensive there, they pay what we pay or more for it and there income is a lot lower..she will love you for it!

Yeah i can just see her opening it and fizzing everywhere after its been in your suitcase for 2 days and have had travelled 1/2 way around the world. Common sense would suggest if you want to give her a bottle of coke buy the bottle when you get there.
we missed sir paul too! yep, we were put off by the rain! went to a carl cox gig the same night, but we didn't go there until gone 2am. it went on till 6am. it was a fantastic sunny morning the next day, so we walked around the center a bit before going home. walked past the stage as it was being taken down and realised that we really should have made the effort to go there! :-(
Dnepropetrosvk is a very wealthy city, delve deeper into the country and it is extremely cheap, i have just returned from Ukraine and was paying 25gn for meal and 5gn for pint beer...
i just got back from ukraine stayed in sumy- and i found most ukrainians cannot afford to eat out very often, beyond the rolled pancake one can get for 1-2 dollars everywhere.

what a piece of sh1t are you to make such jokes? I will tell you a little secret
1. the woman won't love you for the coke,
2. the woman won't love you for the money (she can only play such a role),
3. the woman won't drink your damned coke coz every woman knows what your coke does with our stomachs
Besides Coca Cola is readily available in ANY Ukraine market. As is Coca Cola Lite. I drink it all the time over there. (And my lady constantly tells me I am doing terrible things to my stomach with it.)
