Pnova said – “Most Ukraine woman will not go with western man that take part in such cruelty” WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BH – Nas - Good reading.
Where we live is full of wildlife also. I have been a hunter (for sport and profession) for over 40 years, had my 1st gun at 8.
Nas – talking about Venison. Lena gets angry with me if I don’t bring back the tongue/liver/heart, all of which I used to leave in the bush. She makes the most amazing Pâté. She is the most amazing cook I have EVER known. All the neighbours are gob smacked at her talent in cooking.
By the way Pnova – you eat McD’s ????
This financial crisis deepens – you might also have to return the “hunter – gatherer” man – that’s MAN – you know one of them ???????????????
If some of the deer are not hunted they will overpopulate and cause car crashes and kill people and the deer will become sick and die from diease because of overpopulation. Deer breed very quickly, perhaps not as quick as rabbits but still quick.
There are no animals which hunt deer anymore, so people have to take their place. It is not being a "sadist" or "cruel" to hunt them. It actually is more cruel to have deer slowly die from lack of food.
You need to live in North America to understand this...
A friend of mine in San Diego thought that deer were innocent and let one live on his property. Though it became used to being in the vacinity of people, it gored him one day last summer and he died. His wife holds no bad feeling for Bambii"...... He should have barbecued it... There is also a following that thinks mountain lions in the canyons of the metropolitan area is a good thing. One thing I noticed there was no sign of game in the Ukraine around Sumy. When I asked about deer they said there was not any. It looked like good deer country to me,, somebody must have had barbecue..
Well here in Indiana we have a natural predator in the coyote. Some nights you can hear the yipping as they take down a yearling or an older ill Whitetail.
Quote from bowhunter: "...I agree about stinkin euros the airport in amsterdam only had prices in euros..."
The Netherlands, as with several other countries in EUROPE, has the Euro as its unit of currency! What else would they quote in, pray tell? Would you expect the airports in the USA to quote prices in anything other than US Dollars?
Pnova you speak for your self just as I or any of the other men speak our opinion. There are people in the US who think like you do as there are people in Ukraine who will agree with bowhunter or the others. Perhaps you are removed from rural life far enough that you do not have to face the reality that an animal died so that you could eat each piece of meat.
In North America hunters are responsible for initiating and funding many wildlife improvements. The animal rights people make a lot of commotion and try to stop the way of life for normal people but do very little constructive tasks that benefit the animals other than having your best friend spayed or neutered.
Every animal has a purpose. As long as that purpose is retained everyone is happy. You to watch and Bowhunter to hunt. It is when that purpose is lost that the animal population suffers. And how much do you spend or do to enhance the deer you are fond of? I will guarantee you bowhunter can show you real dollars he spends that go for this purpose as well as time he spends to see that conditions are right for deer in habitation.
I have seen the sentiment in both Ukraine and the US for animals. I have seen the pig, the chicken, the horse and other animals loose their purpose on the farm. The pig and the chicken because big commercial farms made it unprofitable for the other farms to raise them and the horse because he was replaced with tractors, 4 wheelers, and other activities for kids. There are still a few farms that have them but only a small per cent of where they were. I can remember the excitement my kids had when new baby animals were born.
So is it better that an animal had a purpose to provide a meal and created so much happiness along the way or that he never existed at all.
nasfan6: Good point, and if you want to see cruelty watch some coyotes tear a deer apart, it isn't pretty! I know for a fact that a bow or crossbow is much quicker way for the animal to die... and yes all that prepacked food people eat was a living creature at some point...
I personally do not hunt but I have nothing against people who do.. and yes hunters pay alot towards keeping natural areas natural...
Well back to my trip. this city (Sumy) is quite nice it has a slow pace and nice feel to it. There are a lot of parks some for children some for grown ups. there are some nice restaurants and cafe's even a McDonalds, the coffee is stronger than I am accustomed to. the people I have met so far seem really nice. the flat I rented has a nice park behind it that is cleaned every morning. it seems quite popular with people sitting on the benches. there was a couple having wedding pictures taken and another photographer taking pictuers of two woman. the lady I came to see is quite nice and friendly, she is always making sure I have every thing I need. We went to the local museum it had some 17th and 18th century paintings and old furniture that was quite ornate. I did notice a lot of gaming rooms with slot machines at least 1 in every block.
ok now just for Martin how much is it gong to cost me.drum roll please......... well with eating out every day and some other activites I have only spent over the last 4 days less then 200 usd. the exchange rate was 7-1 when I arrived so Dinner for three at a nice restaurant is only 100 auh plus tip. lunches are cheeper that was from the best place in the area. this did not include the flat thats 50 usd a night and it is better than expected for the money. the lady I rented it from Olena owns a local agency and has the best rates for interpreters also. if you only want women from Sumy she is the one to see just pm me for info. the taxi my lady friend used to come and get me was 1500 auh just over 200 usd I will find out today how much it is to Kyiv when I arrange my ride to the next stop on this trip.
I think you may have your initials turned around Bowhunter. I think Ukraine Hrevna is UAH instead of auh. The first time I saw you use this I first thought Australian money and then thought a typo but since you use this every time I thought I would let you know. Most people on here will figure it out but there could be a few that will not.
There is a restaurant that just opened in Sumy in March. They have Belly Dancers and the food is excellent. It is expensive by Ukrainian standards, but I had a party of five and the cost was $175, we were there for several hours, I don't remember the name , but it was in a new complex.
for any one inrerested I will be posting pictures and writing a blog about my trip. I have already uploaded some of the pictures and tried to post some of the information on my blog. myspace.com/bowhuntinoh
It called venison and the word is disgusting you mental midget Danny. I'm beginning to believe danny is some 12 year old who has found a keyboard. Though most 12 year olds spell better.
well I have to say I do envy those who have a wife from Ukriane who likes to cook. the lady I came to see cooked this evening and it was quite good. also I did try the gorgian wine we found at the eko market here it was good but not as good as the wine we had at diner the other night. I showed off some of my bartending skills, made a few American drinks we had a great time. next is Kyiv but only for a day before my flight. I may post the rest of the story on my blog, I have already posted part of it and some pictures.
