I doubt it RB....would you ever think ukraine would turn its back on a revenue source, hell, the tax is probably enforced differently between who is working at the time....
Do you actually think what you are told in a phone call matters to officials at airport?
>So maybe perhaps, there is no longer a tax.
Believe me there IS a customs/duty tax on gifts brought into ukraine.
If there is customs/duty tax, why is it not written on the customs website? I am not saying there isn't, I am just wondering why. Where is the law written, then? Ukraine made a bold move by removing their visa restriction. That's removing their revenue source, but I bet it helped their economy. So, you're saying that if in a phone call to customs officials say there is no customs or duty tax, the officials at the airport still might charge it?
>Ukraine made a bold move by removing their visa restriction. That's removing their revenue >source, but I bet it helped their economy.
BINGO!!!!!!!
>So, you're saying that if in a phone call to customs officials say there is no customs or duty >tax, the officials at the airport still might charge it?
Bingo!!!!!There is enough corruption there to never get a consistent answer....
Let me ask you RB, if you called an IRS office about a tax question, they give you an answer, do you know if it is correct??? Maybe...maybe not, would that be your excuse in an audit...the answer you got from phone call????
No. Why would you think I would do that? In and IRS audit as I do in all of IRS questions, I would get the publications where it is written. A phone call usually tells me where to look for such publications.
As far as corruption, maybe. But I have been in Ukraine three times. Each time, I had gifts totaling over $200 (maybe 200 euros), but I never had to pay a tax. I saw no corruption.
By the way, Beemer. You say there is a tax? I don't believe you.
"Now Beemer, since you know so much, where is the law written that there is an import tax?"
Thank you RB for the compliment!!!
You crack me up RB, one sentence you say you don't believe there is a tax....in another sentence you say you won't tell officials you have more than $200 in gifts in case there is a tax. You remind me of the guy that is on his death bed, doesn't believe in religion his whole life but now prays to god and when asked why he does that now......he says "just in case", got to cove rall the bases.....
RB...right near where you pick up your luggage in borispol, there is an area with customs forms to fill out....have you ever bothered to pick one up and read it??? Lots of excellent info there...might just answer some of your questions!!!!!
Don't flatter yourself, Beemer. As a matter of fact, I have one, Beemer. I am looking at it right now. There are six items on it on how to complete it. There is no mention of a tax.
RB....maybe you have a different one than ones I saw, it was so complicated I didn't have time to read it all at airport...there was more than 6 items for sure.....
"Don't flatter yourself, Beemer."
I take any compliment I can get!!!!! ;-)))
This form was not required of us coming into Ukraine, although it does say it is for entry and departure. The form given to us coming in was asking stuff like narcotics, explosives, agricultural products. At no instance on my three visits was I ever asked to fill out a form declaring the value of what I am bringing in for gifts.
If there was a tax, I think it would be written somewhere. But, yes it's always good to be careful.
You have guts for sending as expensive as that through. My packages never exceed $100 in worth, and still my last package got lost. The post office automatically insures it. But, after a dozen or so packages that went through, I didn't keep the receipt on this one.
The package that got lost contained DVD movies. They must like those. My DVD's were also stolen from my luggage - twice. Cigarettes were also stolen, but I don't really care about those. They were cheap (not taxed by US) and they were only for gifts. I don't smoke.
