Ben I was there i April. It was still cold in Moscow and St Pete, but Volgagrad wasnt too bad. Maybe they do come out in summer. Definitely will go in summer next time. The trip wasnt disappointing though, I did manage to meet a couple of very nice women.
Mondelo I did check out the bombed out buildings down by the river. They keep them that way as a monument of the war. They remember it like it was yesterday. There were even kids in the centre of town wearing grey uniforms and practising their goose step march. Its true.
I dont think they should have changed the name. Good monument to how bad Stalin was.
Don't blame him Jet, he suffers from severe penis envy, and they're all better hung than he is.
But never mind inbred ozzi's, how's life treating you? Not that I am an avid regular here anymore but even I saw you'd sorta vanished. That might, might mind, mean good news for you I hope? Here's all fine, drowning in work hence not complaining.
Trust me. To get into the sort of trouble I did you almost have to try.
What happened would make an interesting script for a comedy movie - only nobody would laugh because it would seem to be too far fetched.
I opted to visit my Moldovan lady for perhaps the last time, just to be sure, before making a final commitment to my Ukrainian lady. Of course the Ukrainian lady had no idea I was doing this. And honestly - its the first and ONLY time I was ever anything less than truthful with her.
There are over 2.7 million people in Kiev and we only had to avoid ONE of them (my Ukrainian lady's sister) for a few days. Do you think we could DO THAT? Hell no.
I got busted.
That's the long and the short of it.
Well I don't have to worry any more about making a commitment to my Ukrainian lady.
You are cracking me up :) I can just picture it, yes, I would have been tempted to do the same in a city the size of Kiev but look on the bright side, if all else fails then drop in to a hair salon in Nab. Chelny and pick up an easy one or two!
Yes, it DOES say it all. I was always afraid that would happen to me. You would think, no, no , never happen, not to me..... It happened to my friend in odessa, it was his fault for taking a girl to a shopping mall( of all places)!!! Now I'm getting it Jet......you didn't go to moldova
did you.....you know, if it happened in/near khreschatik, you have only yourself to blame, for it is the place to be seen......if not, I am sorry. I have a little rule about going to another city to meet a girl and hope murphy's law doesn't follow.
The Moldovan was fully aware of the situation. And we AGREED (supposedly) that we would take every step neccessary not to be seen. She regreted that we hadn't married three years ago and made it very clear that in her opinion I was meant for her and she was meant for me. I told her that even if we decided to be together it would be up to ME to break up with the Ukrainian in a civil way. I even pointed out certain restaurants that we could not eat at (one on Khreschatik) as I knew that these were places introduced to my Ukrainian and I by the sister. But once there of course my Moldovan insisted that she had heard of these restaurants and wanted to try them. She said that she never thought that she would come to Kiev only to be chased by a "ghost" that we couldn't be seen by and that I was being paranoid as the odds on being caught were so small.
I attempted to avoid the city center like the plague but my Moldovan insisted there was nothing to do anywhere else in Kiev.
It was at a restaurant on Khreschatic that it happened. When I realized where we had ended up I insisted that we eat and get out as quickly as possible. Again she started in with the "paranoid" thing. Then she insisted that she had to have cake and grapefruit juice afterward. And she ate that cake and drank that grapefruit juice as slowly as I have ever seen anyone consume anything. It literally took more than half an hour. I'm still not sure if she actually drank the grapefruit juice or it evaporated. There was plenty of time for either. I considered leaving myself - but since I had no idea on even which street our small private hotel was on (and no taxi driver had ever heard of it as I discovered later) there wasn't much I could do. The place was crowded with nowhere to sit promting the sister of course to walk past every table. Suddenly I looked up and my eyes met hers.
BUSTED.
I immediately got up and left - exiting out through the line of people coming in. My Moldovan left the conventional way, exiting right past the sister and her party who had finally found a table right near the exit door. I was HOPING that someohow I HADN'T been spotted or that the sister would report seeing someone who looked like me (that's happened before). But it was not to be.
Afterward my Moldovan lady and I had quite a big argument. She insited that it certainly had not been her intention and that she thought the chances of being seen were so small as to be inconceivable (yeah... right) despite my continued urging her to hurry up as she ate the cake and drank the juice, so that we could get the hell out of there.
Little footnote - we left Kiev the next day to go elsewhere (not saying where) but had to return on another Friday night so that I could catch my return flight. I was determined to stay well clear of the center of town as we would only be in Kiev a few hours. But son-of-a-fun if the Moldovan didn't try everything in her power to get me to go BACK to Khreschavik street and that same restaurant. The bulk of the damage had already been done of course - but I certainly didn't desire another encounter and of course we didn't go. But she certain had her motives and she certainly tried.
Wow
Jetski - that’s an incredible story !!!!
Happening especially in winter when the chances of it happening are much less - I would have thought ??
So - what was the general mood of the people etc - what we are hearing from my Lena’s friends and mother etc is all doom and gloom ???
What you think ???
Thanks for story jet....I certainly hope your big argument had little to do with your moldovian eating so slowly that that is the reason you got 'BUSTED'. Her motive may have been to get you 'seen'....but your judgement in being anywhere near a populated area was not very good....I still think that 2.4 million of Kiev's 2.7 million people are on khrestachik at any given time. Should have had a nice dinner on one of the restaurant boats on the river......there is maybe a hundred or so people around there..........
"I attempted to avoid the city center like the plague but my Moldovan insisted there was nothing to do anywhere else in Kiev."
Should have met in odessa, short flight for you(inexpensive) and easily accessible by your moldovian(bus)and NOTHING to be paranoid about....hindsight is 20/20, huh?
Ben
Talking about the Tui add
I reckon they must have searched the length of NZ twice over to find those chicks on the add.
Joked with Lena - “perhaps they are from Ukraine/Russia”
Hey maxi...can you explain to me about the crowded restaurant Jet was in.
I've always wondered, even before this crisis, how ukrainians can afford to eat out at restaurants, they seem to be usually full of people and prices are similar to where I live and I do know the menus (english/russian) are same price. Same thing with the prices at clothing shops not to mention the cell phone stores. You have some ideas????
Adman – bloody hell !!!
Last time I stood on Queen Street – I thought I was in some bloody Asian city !!!!
Seriously – we have some stunners here too, but they are snapped up by the show ponies etc. But the ratio of good to bad is definably not inline with FSU – it’s the blood line. We (and most western countries) have to big of blood mix. Our skin complexion is poor in general due to a cocktail of blood lines. We will come right in a couple of 100 years or so.
My daughter is a stunner (must of taken after her French/Dutch mother) and she’s hooked up with a drop kick drain layer. She could have had who she wanted – 25 and looking real sharp, but you cant tell em !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must admit though – when in Moscow last year – it did appear less eye candish !!!
Girls have gotten bigger and not and not as sharp as a couple of years back.
beem
well - I think the 2.4 or 2.7 Million is way to low for Kiev.
I have heard its over 5 - but I don’t think anyone (govt included) would have a clue !!!
Heard a few of the "middle class - and upper) restaurants have closed
In retrospect I should have gone to Chisinau (Moldova) to seem my Molodvan lady. It was certainly feasible. The round trip ticket, which I priced, was only $100 more. But SHE wanted to see Kiev and again, the odds I figured were so small, besides it would only be for a few days before moving on to somewhere else.
OF COURSE hindsight is 20/20, and of course as I have admitted the fault was ulitmately MINE, as I should have made it IMPOSSIBLE for her to get us seen.
You can imagine the urgent SMS I recieved almost immeidately afterward demanding that I call the Ukrainian right away. Since I was only seen for an instant I even tried some deft weasel maneuvers which I am not particularily proud of to try and deny that I was there or that it was ME the sister saw. But alas, I am quite inexperienced at lying and therefore don't do it particularily well. And I was still busted.
Not sure that you would want me picking your lottery numbers.
I remember a chearful little ditty from an American country comedy show (Hee Haw) some years back that went:
"Gloom, despair and agony on me.
Deep dark depression. Excessive misery.
If it weren't for BAD LUCK - I'd have no luck at all.
Gloom, despair and agony on me."
