Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/12/2009 7:20:03 AM   I've ridden the train from Kiev to Simferopol quite a few times. It can be very romantic and the highlight of a trip. If you want privac, of course, you can go first class. If I remember correctly that comes to around $150 per person ($300 total for car) but can actually vary according to the specific train you take (what time of the day). A cheaper alternative is to buy all four seats in a second class car. A ball park figure for that is around $50 per seat ($200 for the car). And it gives you someplace to stow your luggage if you have a lot - in the upper bunks, so you don't trip on it. Discovered recently that there is even a less expensive alternative - you can "buy the car" in second class at around $150. All that means is that nobody can intrude on you buy buying the other two tickets - but the lady in charge will collect two of the four bags of linen (which of course you don't need anyway) and you still have the privacy of your own seperate car. Its very nice. SOme of these prices may actually be a bit high as I am quoting from a time when it was 4-5 grienva per dollar. Now a dollar gets you 8 grievna. jetmba. I actually paid $50. But again - that was when the grievna was around 4-5 per dollar. Today at 8 grievna to the dollar around $30 is what you can expect to pay. jetmba. Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/12/2009 7:38:55 AM   A little trick have discovered for localtaxi rides in Ukraine. Taxi drivers aren't dumb. They know that if a man and a woman get in at the same time and the woman does the talking - the guy is probably a foreigner and the price can go up accordingly. It will work if the lady negotiates the rate while the foreign man stays out of sight - but that is a hassle to pull off each time just in order to avoid gettting ripped off. (There is even a story somewhere in this forum about some couple where the woman actually identified the guy as a MUTE - to explain hy he couldn't asjk the price in Russian. That's really far fetched.) My lady and I had a flawless technique that is really efficient and simple. I would help her into the backset and she would immediately tell him where we were going. I generally took an extra few seconds to open the door and get into the front seat - by then everything was already taken care of. She probably just appeared as a slighly impatient lady. That's all. Its not a foolproof method in that the driver could still quote a high price to her - but that only happened once on my last trip. As I got in and shut the door I could see that there was some disagreement. I simply opened the car door again as if I was ready to leave - and amazingly the price came down (she told me later). The taxi drivers will be waiting and they'll be delighted to take you where you want to go. Go to Yalta its very nice. Should be less than an hour by car. Anyone know if you can pre-book a flight "online" from Kiev to Simpferopol? Do they issue e-tickets or only accept traditional hard copy tickets? I ask these questions because I don't want to wast any of the precious four days she will be with me in Crimea. jetmba, good advise on taxi rides! Beemer18, Would you fly into Kiev and simply go to the different airlines ticket counter and "hope" to find an empty seat or would you try to pre-book this local flight? It's not another sexcapade this time I go with full intentions of visiting only this one woman. I hope it works out but you know as I do, that the chemestry must be present on the first meeting. If it is not then I'll simply wine and dine her have a nice vacation with a beautiful lady and "leave no meat on the chicken". Kirk, I have thought about leon and he will be one of my contacts... Just book for an e-ticket and go to counter in A or B to get paper ticket. wizzair is probably cheaper but times are not very good. good luck!!! She has told me that she could only spend a few days with me because of work and I understand a single mother raising a daughter in this situation. There are apartment rentals in Yalta who will also send a car to Simpferopol to pick you up.
