do you go places where you expect topless? seriously though, the girl i was with was sporting a thong. in general, i would say russians are completely oblivious to the hosts countries customs and cultures. the 'muslim' men working there didn't seem to mind though. :)
on a serious note, if a girl suggest going to turkey on your second meeting, there's a chance she's not that serious about you. i think a normal girl would be a little shy to ask or expect that. just throwing that out there.
Hi MC
I hope Im not too late! but I was in Belek last August with a lady from Sumy!
We stayed at the beautiful IC Santai Hotel.
Most of the hotels in this part of Antalia are "all inclusive" we used to call it "The Gulag" because getting in and out was an ordeal! But it means its as safe as it needs to be. They like to keep you there, but at night its no problem getting a taxi (or a tractor and trailor lol) in to Town.
Dont worry about the Muslim thing! The Turks are only interested in money, and wont give a toss what your lady is dressed like, they seem to get on well with Russian speaking people anyway. Russian and Ukranian women are more than capable of handling them in any case! she will want to go shopping around the many fake designer shops there so dont be suprised when the Turkish guys start trying to woo her in to every shop you walk by! Most of these guys are multi lingual, I envied their grasp on Russian!!
As for the bathing!! most ladies keep their tops on, but lots of times I seen ladies slipping them off for a while, they just dont flaunt it the way they do in Spain or Greece.
One thing you can really look forward to !!! The highlite of my day!!!! Aerobics in the pool!!! Dozens of Russian and Ukrainian women excersizing!!! Aahhh the memories!!
I thought it would be safe, but it’s still a little out of my comfort zone... never been around so many Muslims before. I'll keep in mind your advice about the fake designer shops, thanks! My girl had asked me what my views on topless sunbathing were... since I'm more conservative than she is, I told her "it's OK for “other” women to sunbathe topless but "you" must keep your top on!" When I posted the question to this forum I was just wondering if it was a "common" practice there or not. I leave in 36 hours... first I'll travel to Ukraine and pick up my girl and then on Saturday we travel to Belek, Turkey. I'm fired up about this trip! Yes… I'm going to the aerobics at the pool first! <smile>. But in all seriousness this is our second meeting and it's time to start asking some serious questions on what she wants from a relationship and what her expectations or goals are in 5 years and 10 years in the future. I wish I had more time before I leave to survey the forum members on what they would consider important questions to ask. Thanks again!
"I thought it would be safe, but it’s still a little out of my comfort zone... never been around so many Muslims before."
Mini Cooper - good luck with your trip, but what on earth have Muslims got to do with your comfort zone? Are you worried that they're all raving terrorists in disguise, just waiting to get the naive American tourist? I have news for you - apart from certain clothing, Muslims look just like everyone else. And if it's Arabs you're worried about, there are plenty of them who are NOT Muslim. I had never been around so many Americans before I went to Disneyland - that was pretty frightening, just waiting for some nut with a gun to open up on all the innocent people!
Having read Nasfan's post about Indiana and the gun laws (what a joke!) I'm so glad that I live in a country where you're not allowed to shoot burglars for sport. For crying out loud, it makes major headlines here if ANYBODY gets shot!
MC,
you speak as if all muslims are terrorists. thats pretty ignorant.
how many bombings do you know of that happened in turkey recently?
they are just people like you and me. treat them nice and they will treat you nice.
let me ask you a question, was this trip her suggestion? if it is , i say thats a serious warning sign.
if, while on vacation, she avoids or deflects any serious conversation, don't take it too personal. she's on vacation and wants to have fun. then again, its not a good sign either.
surely you don't want to get uber serious on just a second meeting? i know i'm not a very good example as i actually moved here on our second meeting - but 2 months together last summer was long enough to get to know each other with the year or so of phone calls i reckon.
why would turkey be a warning sign? a couple of our friends went to turkey a couple of months ago. it looked pretty cool from the photos i saw on vkontakte.
I would only consider Turkey a vacation destination because my Russian girlfriend can travel there without a visa.
A recent survey shows that Turks hate Americans more than other cultures.
Who would want to go there? Coop, I'm sure it will be a nice trip but my girlfriend suggested Turkey and I said anywhere but there!
I would go to Spain, Egypt or Thailand before Turkey. Turkey is now trying to cater to Russians as they can travel there now.
They have even built resorts with Russian architecture to attract the new tourists. Turkey is not high on my list.
Let us know how the trip went. I hope it is better now.
Hey coopdude.........is this girl your taking to turkey same one you met first time in Yalta?
Is she from Zaporozhye? If so, when will you meet her in her hometown?
Hey tex-dude....have you looked on sites what is needed for FSU girl to go to DM? There is conflicting advice. I am going to DM embassy here( not far from where I work) to ask what is the truth.
Beemer,
I will leave next Monday to DM. The only thing I have been told is that she will have to purchase visa at Punta Cana airport for $10US.
Let me know what your find out.
It's pretty funny how statistically Indiana has a lower overall crime rate than New Zealand.
Though the Rock you live on has only 4 million inhabitants, we have cities that are larger.
I don't have to lock my doors where I live. The Joke is ignorant people like you who portray an image of gun play on every corner in America. By the way, What was the Calibre of gun Cain used to kill Abel??
Isn't it amazing if one little kid gets accidentally shot with a gun the news media goes berserk. That little kid and 100,000 just like him can be just as tragically killed with a car on the highway and it is just another day at the office for the media.
If the right to carry (a gun) saved 10 lives noone would hear about it or even know about it. One accident or crime where 1 person is shot is immediately in your face. Even in a case like the church in Colorado where a gunman opened up and a person with the right to carry stopped him the media portrayed that person as a security guard so as not to give any credit to a civilian with a gun. Maybe Kansas, Florida, Indiana and the other states with the right to carry have a lot of security guards.
hey tex-dude.........that $10 is for a tourist card, just like I or you would need. Here is a couple sites which tell different stories:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_passport
http://dominica n-republic.visahq.com/requirements/Ukraine/
http://dr1.com/travel/prepare/do cumentation.shtml
http://www.dominicanembassy.org.uk/Touristcard.html
< br>Well 3 out of 4 say a tourist card is all that is needed but not all say exactly the same thing.
Worse thing is for there to be a recent change in requirements. I'll let you know in next couple days what embassy says. I may be going there in Sept/Oct or in the winter, so I need to know also.
Oz...I just heard the other day that 60% of deaths of children were related to firearms. Everything has its pluses and minuses. Too bad that security guards is not a high paying job.......
as a Turkish, all you know about Turkiye and Turks are stereotypes.
we do do not hate Americans people we hate politics. do not worry you can find bacon and topless girls too in the Turkish beaches.Turkey is one of the most beautiful and inexpensive holiday destination in the europe.Turks are very friendly and helpful.have a nice travel holiday.

The firearms stats are higher than I expected and 2006 is as recent as I could find on http://wonder.cdc.gov/cmf-icd10.html. I hope it will show right when it loads to site. The firearms accidents are equal or less than 1 incident in 200000 population. However other firearm activity after age 14 accounts for a larger percent.
age firarms auto all deaths
accident suicide all per 100000
<1 0.1 0.2 3.7 703
1 to 4 0.1 0.4 3.4 31.7
5 to 9 0.2 0.3 3.2 15.3
10 to 14 0.5 0.4 1.3 4.2 19.3
15 to 19 0.5 4 12.6 25.1 66.8
20 to 24 0.3 6.6 20.7 27.2 94.7
It still scrambled all up. each line from left reads age, firearms accident, firearms suicide (suicide is absent in age 0 thru 9 the first 3 rows), All firearm related, Auto, All deaths.
I don't think there's any need to enter in to a statistical debate regarding it, many people are afraid of flying but, stastically, it's safer than crossing the road but those people aren't afraid of crossing the road, they do it several times every day.
Accepted that Aucklander made a stupid post, as people know I'm no fan of nasfan, indeed we entered in to a firearms debate on this forum some years ago, but nasfan didn't suddenly write that law or make it up, he's obviously, very obviously, copy and pasted it from elsewhere thus it is obviously a law and not the joke that Aucklander refers to it as.
But those of us that have grown up, lived in, a 'lesser' firearm environment do find it, perhaps the word is, 'outdated' that people might walk around with guns and holsters (don't take that word for word :), in UK and when I was a kid we played 'cowboys and indians', 'cops and robbers' etc. whereas we'd have our cap firing guns and we'd go around (pretend) shooting each other but it was kids stuff, we'd grow out of it, we'd be educated that firearms are a 'no, no' hence it's difficult for some to understand such an allowance for firearms.
Me personally, well 28 years ago I was 'Skytrain'ing' it back to UK from LAX, there was a lady passenger on board, her and her husband had gone to LAX for an annual holiday and he had been killed by a stray bullet during an armed robbery, well she was travelling home in the cabin whilst he was travelling home in a coffin in the hold, some annual holiday!
Well so much had it affected her she hadn't been washing, she had bee pee'ing and sh1tting herself, she was a broken woman, one had to see it to realise it, and so much did she smell the flight attendants packed her off in to a toilet with a bucket of water and a bar of soap and they wouldn't let her out until she had done something about it. That is a memory that has stayed with me for 28 years and shall always stay with me, that's how much it affected me.
But nasfan only posted that law because the forum retard was making threats, we've been there multiple times before, the words 'banging head' and 'brick wall' spring to mind so let's not fall out whilst discussing yet another situation instigated by the retard!
Aucklander, we in America are not allowed to shoot burglars for sport. Everyone, including the police are only allowed to shoot in self defense. The police is often scrutinized and even in trouble for this. I was once an armed security guard. We were not allowed to shoot at fleeing robbers.
Nasfan says, "It's pretty funny how statistically Indiana has a lower overall crime rate than New Zealand."
I just had to look this one up. The latest data available is 2007. In 2007, there were 426,380 violent crimes in New Zealand with a population of 4,177,000 at the time, or the rate of 102,056 violent crimes per million. In 2007, there were 236,691 violent crimes in Indiana with a population of 6,345,000 at the time, or the rate of 37,302 violent crimes per million. Nasfan was right.
Indiana lists car theft as a property crime and a nonviolent crime. New Zealand lists that as a violent crime. I took this into consideration, and I believe I compared the statistics correctly. The 236,691 violent crimes in Indiana, lists 215,526 property crimes and 21,165 violent which includes murder, rape, robbery and agravated assault.
Indiana, however leads in murder. There were 356 murders for a 56.1 rate per million and New Zealand had 45 or 10.7 per million.
