I was looking to going to Phunket but he advised to look at Pattaya where the sex trade was not so prevalent. He said the heritage is there but the Thai people were basically good people. Indeed one of the stupidest ever was a guy who proposed starting his own romantic tours set-up to, of all places, Nab. Chelny. Precise details fail me but as I recall there was a totally unnecessary 3 hour (each way) transfer(s) from/to Kazan airport (Nab. Chelny has it's own working airport), then the sucker got packed of to a women's hairdresser for a hair cut etc, (regardless if he needed a haircut etc. or not), then the next day attended a woodworking lesson to makes one's own wooden gift for the lady and thereafter rip-off interpreter prices, regardless if an interpreter was needed or not, and a selection of a number of pre-selected ladies (from a carefully managed stable) over the next number of days, precisely which one of these ladies was to be presented with the wooden gift remained a mystery! We had a great time in DR, I just could not get enough info on Thailand resorts to feel comfortable. King was human...but the message of non-violent protest was imo as great as a scientific or engineering discovery. He did not invent it, but he was the right guy at the right time.
