I can vaguely remember a time when as kids we had to doff our shoes before entering the house main living areas.
One other thing that occurred to me was that adults didn't seem to have to bother. I took that as meaning that adults didn't step on so much shit is us careless youngsters.
I can get my head round the fsu habit of wearing indoor shoes. The apartments seemd to always have a few pairs available but I sure as hell wasn't wearing them if some other pair of mangy clod hoppers had been in them. I'll stick with the socks thanks.
In UK the carpet seems to be becoming a thing of the past. Folks preffering to lay down some faux wood effect affair.
In my neck of the woods the caspet it still prized for its much valued insulating properties.
Plus the fact that, due to lack of friction, you can never get ball deep into your good lady while wearing socks.
Therefore having to remove your socks to get better purchase you in actual fact twist you toes enough to put them out of joint.
I blame this on wearing shoes for most of our waking life and not allowing our toes to develop the necessary strength.
Just my opinion but I'll be sticking with the carpet...so to speak.
