Took wife to Ashland, PA to see burnt out town of Centralia and also the pioneer coal tunnel. It happened to be the annual Pioneer Day celebration. There was this band 'Shama Lama', a bunch of older guys playing what else, oldies. They all wore the same, THE SAME yellow jackets!!!! She commented that she never saw so many ugly people gathered in one place before. And she ordered the 'halushka' from a vendor. She exclaimed very loudly that this is not halushka! Why do they need to continue spending billions returning to a planet that offers no commercial return, in the same era, the 1960's, supersonic airliners were developed, why did they stop producing them in the 1970's ..... because they offer little or no commercial return! I was stationed in Patrick AFB, Florida in 1981 during the first Space Shuttle flight. Fifteen miles away was the Space Shuttle launch site at the Kennedy Space Center. Whenever there was a launch into space like this, I sometimes would watch it. You can't tell what it is they're launching from that far. They all look about the same. I was listening on the radio for the countdown and then stopped the car and watched the launch. If anyone remembers, the first launch attempt was aborted. I was in the barracks. Behind the barracks was the flight line. Five supersonic jets were taxi-ing the runway about to take off as chase planes.
