I had to laugh at 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA' last evening ...
Despite being born in Scotland Gordon Ramsay doesn't speak with any particular accent and is clearly understandable to any English speaker.
Yet these dumbass Americans in the programme, they claimed that they were speaking English, that they had learned English, but they couldn't understand what 'Brit' language GR was speaking and, to the effect, GR should go and learn the English language.
So funny, ignorance can be such a wonderful thing particularly when there is, pretty much, an entire nation believing that their language is 'English'. :)
When I finally chose a product for my wife to learn English I had two options. American English or British English. I chose American English because that's where she lives. And to be sure, many Americans cannot even speak proper American English. Imagine now when I speak lazily being corrected by someone just getting a grasp on the language.
It is interesting that on American television, Scots usually have sub-titles.
