I've been thinking about your general inquiry -- I mean, your concerns about running into problems with the natives.
In my opinion, staying out of serious trouble is not very difficult. It does call for plenty of realism and awareness, and keeping a modest profile
If you want to understand the "system" over there, imagine that Al Capone and Frank Nitti succeeded in completely taking over Chicago: Elliot Ness and his G-men took the bribes, and all resistance ended.
It's a mistake to expect law-and-order like we are blessed with in the West. Fortunately, there isn't a lot of serious violence (but almost certainly, more than you have at home).
I suggest living for at least a couple of months in the town where you expect to settle. Get to know who's who, and make as many contacts as you can manage. Listen to people's stories about their lives: they are bound to be educational!
i always thought Elliot Ness was Mr super straight cop(damn Hollywood)
Durak, you just changed the world for me, i really thought there was a ying-yang thing going on..
when i was over the border on the russian side of ukraine, i witnessed something strange for a new zealander.
waiting for a bus i had four or five guys next to me pissed, one or two was excessively playing up.
like rolling around in the bus parking area pretending to be a bus i'm guessing.
this seemed to be very annoying to the bus drivers trying to park their buses.
i could see the girl i was with was a little uncomfortable.
anyhow as one would expect the cops turned up, well i dont know if they were cops.
militia was writen on the 4x4, a UAZ(jeep land-rover looking thing) two guys jump out.
combat boots, camo uniforms, green berets, and what we would call para-ak47's(snub barreled things)
the girl next to me started getting very agitated and wanted me to move out of there fast.
"now the the strange thing" these drunken young men suddenly went sober and quiet.
even no stumbling.
one of the uniformed guys said something in a matter of fact way, as if hes kind of bored.
the uniforms only looked at me for a moment then never again.
a uniform guy opened the back door of the short wheel based 4x4 and said a couple of words.
the super sober keen to please guys squeezed into a the wagon that had no seating or even enough room for them.
i'm not sure if they politely closed their own door but no other words where said by any..
holly shit i thought, i have found the cure to been pissed and the worlds hoodlum-ism problems.
wow if our police had that respect what a different country here would be.
not often would two policemen turn up here to deal with a higher number of drunken guys.
the verbal diarrhea and extra disorder is just the norm and is why higher numbers are needed.
what had me stomped is why these guys did their drunken carry on in the first place knowing its possible outcome..
If you can remember, did their uniforms say in large letters OMOH (the last letter standing for the Russian "n", so the initials are usually spoken like a-MOAN)? Those would be the riot police, whose function is to frighten and intimidate. Russians know not to mess with them.
I haven't seen ordinary civil police uniformed and equipped like you described.
I recently read that in Russia, it is so common to see groups of similarly-dressed young men partying in the middle of the day (for no discernible reason), that they have a word for this -- unfortunately, I already forgot the word :)
yeah i just cannot remember.
strangely they would have not been out of place in our armed services here.
i was dressed almost the same other then a slight difference in the green camo, DPM (very slight) not the type you see civilians wearing all the time over there, thats very different.
i just googled Ministry of Internal Affairs (Russia) special police uniforms, nothing was even close.
i have always wondered if one did a runner, would they.
i didnt see any of the same in moscow when i watched the big arms parade for Mr Putons president,, Dmitry Medvedev.
that gave me mixed feelings about russian head space(thinking) when a column of ballistic nuclear carriers drove past for red square, the crowd cheered and wolf whistled the loudest for them ugly things.
Just how traditional are these women...can they think outside the square a bit to get what they claim to be interested in? I heard that an FSUW is not as appealing if she has a child in tow.... what would an FSUW think if I promised her the desired marriage, BUT, not until she had our child first! Would this expose a scammer or could this back-fire on me and torpedo my chances with her?? ....btw, I really, really like her..I dont want to screw things up.
In general what kinds of statements or behaviours (from a suitor) would *they* consider to be deal-breakers??
Vk's a good idea, thanks....the "child first" question relates to a lady being reasonable re my solvency. I wouldnt go down that road if pre-nups held water there and the way they dance around the issue doesnt inspire me. Time is more important to me than love for some reason?
@Go East: My experience dating Russian girls is that they were like any other girl I have ever dated, they come from a different culture but when it comes to personal matters they are not any different than woman in your own country, only difference is there accent is wicked scary when they get mad at you. If you tell an American girl you don't want to marry her until you impregnate her haha, I can imagine the hell that will follow, so my guess would be that it would be the same for a Russian gal, or any woman anywhere for that matter. Yeah that could sink your battleship if you are still relatively new together, now if you have been together for awhile and have a strong connection she may forgive you ;)
thanks blu' ....I'm really just trying to protect my solvency, I wont ask ask that question...do they know they can be so scary('wicked accent') ...do they care?? Can they be stared down, or will that be another futile exercise??
One thing about both Russian girls is that you have to act like a man, if they start yelling at you do not grovel and ask forgiveness, stare her down, yell back at her, storm the hell out of the house and head to the bar, just do not be insulting in any way, if she pouts and locks herself in the bedroom go watch tv or something until she comes out then approach her to talk about it.
Both Russian girls I talked/talking to was/is more forgiving that any American girl I have dated, and when an issue is settled it is never brought back up 5 years down the road to use against you in a totally unrelated argument. The best way to tell if the girl is not a scammer is to use your head, they feed on your emotions and gamble that you wont be using your head when the red flags start appearing, if you use your head you can not be conned. And a girl wanting to use an American man to come to America to gain citizenship will have to fake being in love for years and years before she gets her green card and that is a damned near impossible act to do for that long. If you end up seeing her in Russia and things work out nicely your in the clear %99.9 of the time.
I think they are very capable of faking for a couple of years,,, they are very goal oriented! But if they were actually honest and sincere,,, they can change their feelings like flipping on a light switch!! Good luck getting an honest explanation from them!!
The numbers from our INS for 2008, shows only 25% of marriages last more than 3 years! Only 4% of the men who join a dating site ever get married. So,,, only 1% of men are successful!
blu'... I thought as much,it's good to get some confirmation though.
I'm not too worried about the whole scam scenario...havent been further east than Budapest so looking forward to something new...when i'm on my death bed I won't be looking back and lamenting about a few thousand dollars I may have lost on an eastern honey.
danny...thanks,I needed that....you take me back to an idyllic time in my life...junior high school.
danny, opinion here seems to be VERY divided as to whether fsu women are as you say, no different to any other woman??
Personally the Ukrainian I'm chasing is not communicating like any woman I've dealt with before. I may therefore continue to table some apparently elementary questions until I have a better understanding of what I'm dealing with.
I'm not too concerned about being scammed....thanks to this site my feet are firmly back on the ground.
I wont count any chickens till they're hatched and I won't keep pursuing someone unless there is mutual chemistry...if I do then I would expect to pay some penalty
Dunt,,, I don’t want anything over or near you!! Lol
“Difference is I mett did the visa girl arrived in person . I havnt been scammed or met a scammer... Not evern once... All FSU girls have been good. One was a thief... There is a big difference. But you need to grab any negative you can because you have very little over me “
Dunt,,, you got her a visa and she stole from you!! You were scammed!!!
There was a big difference??? Yeah,,, you weren’t able to filter out a thief!!!
We don’t need dating lessons here in the U.S. , I was getting to 1st base in kindergarten!!
What sort of lessons do they have dungunder?? Walking upright classes?? You should have stayed in school and not played hooky so much?!!
