I told him the stats I found from 2008, 4 men out of 100 will get married, but only 1 will stay married after 3 years. The 2 and 3 years is meant to represent the time it takes to get a green card, not how long they should date. He will find out in 2 or 3+ years if his wife to be, stays after receiving her green card. The true test, is the test of time,,, and you don’t get that after one vacation. We had an amazing time but I did have the feeling that she was hiding something, and I was right. She has a 7 year old son, which to me is no problem. She was obviously very nervous about telling me and worried that I would not want to be with her. I explained to her however that she needs to be honest about her real situation in the future otherwise how do I know what else she is not telling me the truth about. It seems to be sorted for now but yes I'm closer to the 1 out of 30 maybe than 1 out of 100. Once she told me and I let her know it was not a problem she was way more relaxed so at one level there is some "honesty" to the situation. Have to see how the next meeting goes and if as well as the last one the I'll spend Christmas with her also. They do know smoking is frowned upon, and she was telling me that just recently in Ukraine there have been more smoking restrictions. She doesn't "smoke" but one night we were out at a nightclub and she did want hookah once and since we were having an amazing time I tried it also even though I don't smoke at all. Even the restaurants where smoking is not allowed you can have hookah at your table, so in a way I can see why the girls do not think of it as "smoking". Weather was actually not that hot the week I was there Aug 2-11, there were some hot days but actually one night was quite chilly almost. They are having a heat wave this week however, meanwhile is actually cold in Toronto today. (14C) If you go to Crimea Yalta is way better than Alushta, we spent most of our time in Yalta at the Oreanda hotel, she loved it, paying for two rooms wasn't cheap but I didn't come over to nickle and dime what was a vacation for myself so we stayed there. Its interesting the beach in Yalta is a stone beach so forget about making sand castles on the beach but the water is crystal clear right to the waters edge because of no sand floating in the water. The hotel in Alushta was a huge disappointment in comparison, it was ok but just ok and the only place I stayed in Ukraine with no WiFi in the rooms! I had one night alone in Simferopol when I arrived and stayed at Ukraine Hotel, the lobby is very nice, the rooms are clean but they need to do a bit of an upgrade on the room furniture, etc. Beds are crap in all hotels in Ukraine, the Oreanda was the best but still not up to western standards, having said that its a European issue as I've had worse in Germany and the UK for that matter. I find it very odd that this is such a widespread problem. Coffee is horrible in Ukraine!! :) I now know what people mean about having "mud" in your coffee... Roads are interesting, there are sections of brand new pavement but even those are very uneven sometimes. When I got back I now appreciate how smooth our roads are here. Drivers are insane and pass each other with very little distance between the oncoming traffic. Couple close calls but the drivers from the other side slow down or pull further over so it worked out. One thing I did notice on the drive from Odessa to Simferopol is that there are actually very many what look like new or very recent service stations along the route. I read horror stories about washroom facilities but at least the ones I stopped at they were as good or better than at home. The nightclub we went to one night charged 10 UAH to use the WC which Irina was not impressed with at all :) Unfortunately the same fast food lardo epidemic exists in Ukraine, you do see tons of very hot girls but there are just as many or more overweight and unattractive ones also. Probably more overweight than what I see in Toronto. What was funny to see is how many of the hot girls have another equally hot girl taking pictures of each other in the poses you see on these profiles. After having looked at so many of these profiles seeing them in "production" was interesting. The women in Ukraine who take care of themselves love having their picture taken and they are natural models it seems, and at least in Yalta it was clear that if they noticed you looking at them instead of getting some cold "go away" look which is the standard fare in Canada, they actually often times smile and strike some "interesting" poses. Believe me that having a worthless relationshit for fun is easy, at any time and at any place. For me it’s a waste of time and money; and therefore, I am reluctant to pay any more for FSU dating wed sites. I’ve thought about searching for the worst possible woman,,,, maybe then I’ll find a good one? As long as you are willing to accept her child, it will be a real plus to her and just maybe she will be a little more honest and sincere about relations. I’ve noticed the beds to be poor too,,,, but mostly the single or twin beds. The small beds are more like hammocks,,, you sink down into them. The only place that matters in FSU are Odnoklassniki, VK and FB ( maybe google+). Heck, I believe that,there are also fake profiles of me out there too. Anyway, to know if the profile is real or that is she available she must find time for all that video chatting. I believe the FSU like any other place there are long distance friendship, but Long distance relationship are not normal in FSU especially around young people. In Ukraine, couples from different part of the country quickly settle together or get married. ( you don’t know that person till you live with her/him ) Danny or Rick can elaborate more on this…but from my experience months of separations led to suspicions or conflicts. Its surprising that while I only speak limited Russian all the people I met were extremely friendly. Stayed at the Muscat Hotel in Kherson, it was good but only misinformation on here is that only a few of the staff speak english and even those its not very good. Going back again for Christmas and New years and meeting her son for the first time which is a huge step for her, I met her mother this trip also. There are a lot of scammers on these sites, even the girl I am with admitted to me that she would often talk to people who she would never consider meeting and if they chose to send her stuff she wasn't going to say no. She has a friend who is married and is on a dating site, they just look at it as a second income. You have to actually come to Ukraine to understand the mentality, you pay for everything, even grade school, if you don't slip the teacher some cash your kid fails. They don't see it as being "immoral" as we do, some are worse than others of course. If you want to avoid being scammed set a floor on the age of around 28, ideally 30. At 30 they are much more likely to actually want a relationship. If you are talking to some super hot 22 year old and you are 50 years old and 50 pounds overweight, you can be certain she is playing you. Use your brain!! Also, it makes me laugh reading all these profiles and how almost none of the women smoke or drink, they almost all do. Receptionist, bartender, waitress and waiters. They worked such hellish hours, that I would expect a fast turnover of help. I had an extended conversation with one of the receptionists,,, but that was after 4 double shots of Jägermeister. One little hiccup in the conversations,,, was with a waiter,,,, he asked me if I wanted another shot,,, and I said: Why not? Then, I asked how to say “why not” in Russian. I didn’t recognize anything that he said,,, and I know the word (why) in Russian,, I then asked him if he was speaking Ukrainian,,,, and he said: No?! “Why” in Russian is like,,,, boos-nah. I’ve heard that word many times in movies and from my ex-wife. There are two possibilities,,,, “why not” could be one word in Russian or,,, the two languages have blended or morphed through the years. We were watching an old movie, “Spy’s Like Us” towards the end of the movie, they launch the,,,,, “eye cee bee em” (in code),,,, and the female Russian soldier says: Boosnah boosnah??? Irina translated this,, plus it was displayed at the bottom of the TV screen. That was during the summer of 99’,,, our 1st or 2nd evening together at home,,, so I remember that night well, but it was over 14 years ago. For years now, I have been searching for that movie and the Hunt for Red October ,,,, but the stores don’t seem to carry it. The next time I get to town I’ll order both of them.
