You probably were on a calling / sms plan and then if you used the internet it would be relatively expensive. You just need to choose the right plan if you're going to use 3g on your smartphone. It is cheapest plan for Kyivstar(about$5 a month) You may be able to fool the Americans but not the Ukrainians here! I got my sim card in Kyiv so I get the Kyiv rate no matter where I go in Ukraine.
