Adding my little bit here guys.In my time in Ukraine in several of the bigger cities (Kiev,Kharkov,Dnipropetrovsk)I had absolutely no problem in walking with my lady at night,in fact I think I probably walked more then than I ever do,partly because I was curious but mostly because it felt romantic and the right thing to do.
I know that there are so many instances of tourists being shafted by the local police all over the FSU,and I obviously don't mean for anyone to take this as the rule, but I did find that by just being aware of the surroundings you could go almost wherever you wanted to.
Even clothing is not a great deal different from the west with perhaps the exception of footwear...(yep the NIKE trainers were noticed on the Kharkov Metro),but in general good casual clothing is fine for most purposes.
Be confident,be alert, and above all listen to your lady.........if she's happy with what your doing then relax. She will be the first to tell you when (or if) you croos the line.
Afterthought.......I recall Odessa being mentioned here, and that city is definitely the exception to the above, because I am informed by my lady that with it being a port it has a greater mix of nationalities than is the norm for other Ukranian cities,so upgrade to a DEFCON 3 before entering.....:))
LOL......late here Jeff and been catching up on some long overdue replies, symptom of overdoing it........getting all wuckin murds fuddled up!!!!!...........:)))
Ive seen "Nike" in Ukraine and Uzbek cities Glad, but dont be fooled, they were cheap Korean copies, but they looked just as good !!
In Tashkent its a Bad idea to walk with your girl after dark, for the reasons I have mentioned on the last page about the cops, they really are assholes an as corrupt as it comes !!!
