I know that there are so many instances of tourists being shafted by the local police all over the FSU,and I obviously don't mean for anyone to take this as the rule,but I did find that by just being aware of the surroundings you could go almost wherever you wanted to. Even clothing is not a great deal different from the west with perhaps the exception of footwear...(yep the NIKE trainers were noticed on the Kharkov Metro),but in general good casual clothing is fine for most purposes. In Tashkent its a Bad idea to walk with your girl after dark, for the reasons I have mentioned on the last page about the cops, they really are assholes an as corrupt as it comes !!!
