"Are you referring to staying overnight at a hotel bar during a flight connection?"
DC, are you asking me that question? I am not a bar/pup guy, I hit the disco/dance clubs. There is Salsa and Bachata obsession going in all Eastern Europe too. So, start practicing.
I used to lived in Europe and within 2 hours of at least 6 different country...driving at autobahn speed.
"Internet Scams: Internet crime is a serious problem in Ukraine. The U.S. Embassy frequently hears from people who have had large amounts of money stolen by internet contacts they thought were their friends, loved ones, or romantic interests. These Internet scams include lotteries, on-line dating or introduction services, and even requests from a “friend” in trouble. In many cases, scammers troll the Internet for victims and spend weeks or months building a relationship and credibility. Once they have gained their victim’s trust, they create a false situation and ask for money. Once money has been sent, there is almost no chance it will be recovered.
In many other cases, U.S. citizens are scammed into sending money to a person or agency in Ukraine with the understanding that either a young woman will visit the United States, or the U.S. citizen will visit her in Ukraine. Often, these scams lead to requests for increasing amounts of money for various purposes, including requests to assist with faked emergency situations (such as unexpected ticket or visa fees, serious illness, or family members in trouble). Once the U.S. citizen becomes suspicious, the individual or agency will cut off contact. Many of these scams have existed for many years using a variety of different identities, agency names, and addresses. In addition, some U.S. citizens visiting their “friend” or “fiancé” in Ukraine have been extorted out of thousands of dollars, and in some cases have been seriously assaulted. Numerous U.S. citizens have also lost money to agencies and individuals who claimed to be able to arrange a student or fiancé visa to the United States. We urge you to read the document entitled “Marriage Brokers” on our website for additional information."
"a mate of mine got date raped in moscow ..... is that a scam"
Nope. It's a sexual assault and should be reported to police if in fact it did occur.
A scam in this context usually refers to someone defrauding someone financially via deception. In the context that we're talking about it usually involves email or chat correspondence then funds being sent for the purpose of travel.
Certainly there are all types of different scams big and small. Like the time I was used for a free dinner in Odessa. Did I feel scammed? Yes. Because the girl was not interested in a relationship but just a free dinner at her favourite restaurant and was using the dating process to do it.
Someone said well then you got scammed. You were stupid. Absolutely right. I was stupid for allowing her to choose the meeting venue.
After that experience I only agreed to meet ladies for coffee on the first date at a place of my choosing. Some of them kicked at that and I missed out on the date. But I really didn't miss anything because these were professional daters. This allowed me to skip the pros and get to the ones who were genuine and sincere.
People that don't get scammed are self serving, selfish, paranoid and lonely or very lucky. Just try and limit your exposure to the same as I described with the addition of entitled and predatory.
" Like the time I was used for a free dinner in Odessa. Did I feel scammed? Yes. Because the girl was not interested in a relationship but just a free dinner at her favourite restaurant and was using the dating process to do it."
did she say she's interested in you? maybe she talked to you and understood you're not the one? Or maybe she had to have sex with you since you bought her dinner? Maybe you should've talked this through before feeding her? :)
I don’t think Moya understands American culture. An evening of fine dinning consists of many courses. First are the entrée courses, followed by the main course and the finale, Intercourse!
People that get scammed are NOT always stupid.....maybe better word is desperate, lonely, un-date-able.
I think the word 'scammed' is used much too much and not good way to describe situation. Mostly it is guys who don't think they 'got' what they paid for. How does one know if they are/aren't interested in someone until they meet in person??? In international dating it is the guy spending $$$ to meet a girl, so what, it is part of this process, You should know ahead of time that meeting may/may not go where you wanted to go. Which brings the old adage............. wovo V. wmvm?
According to TomZ earlier, I am being lazy by paying for a girl to come visit me. Yep, paying for visa and plane ticket, just like you are told repeatedly anywhere and everywhere...do not pay for visas and/or plane tickets...its a SCAM!!!! Actually this is my second (just plane last time), was I scammed??? Well, she stayed with me for the summer till she moved on.....for some here, I guess, will tell me I was scammed!!! Scammed with a smile on my face?????
If you have a first meeting dinner date with girl and there is no chemistry or you dont like each other it is NOT a scam. It just wasnt a good match.
Better to meet for coffee/tea at cafe for first meeting and see what happens. If its positive meeting you can move on from there. If not, neither has lost anything.
Even if you have not good meeting on dinner date, dont view it as a scam but a learning experience and now you are not worried about what to eat for dinner after meeting, lol.
In reference to my earlier post about desperate women. YES, they do exist right now in Ukraine so keep in mind a simple truth. If it seems to good to
be true, it usually isnt true at all.
Another thing to remember right now and generally always. Be cautious who you invite to your apartment or hotel room. She may not be alone and could have other plans for you.
Most doors use a key on both sides. NEVER leave the key in the door, especially with a stranger. Ive heard some instances lately of girls waiting for you to go to bathroom. take a shower or otherwise distracted and they leave with your cash or valuables and quickly blend into the night or jump into car of waiting accomplice.
They could also let someone in to rob you.
At night, avoid walking alone and be aware of your surroundings, even with a date. Lately, Im leery of everyone and even of girls I date until I get to know them much better.
Back in 2010 at the Slavutich hotel, before I learned of the wifi rooms on the 10th floor, I needed to call home at a certain time, so I went downstairs to the lobby. I asked the girl if she wanted to come with me, she declined, so I had to lock the girl in the room,,,, no choice. As I walked passed the front desk,,, I said to them,,, don’t worry,, she’s locked in my room. They all smiled.
After my call, I stopped at the desk, and said: that it is really a fire hazard/danger,,,, being locked in a room? They offered a second key? I thought about it, and declined. Even being on a second trip, having spent a week together, I didn’t have that much trust. When I returned to my room,,,, I expected to see everything in my suitcases rearranged,,,, but they weren’t. Before going to bed, I put my jacket in the closet,,,, and noticed how much noise the chrome hangers made,,, and slid all of the hangers up against my jacket. You can never be too careful.
A trick that hookers do,, is to put something heavy like a brick in their purse,,,, and nail a guy along side the head with it. It’s called being “rolled”,,,, knock you out and roll you over to empty all pockets.
Which brings to mind, I have found that the women I have been in contact from FSU, they have been more respectful of privacy than women I have dated in America. My reference is to a women being in your business and nosey, not a scammer.
I slept with a very beautiful girl the night before last, during the evening I'd been to meet her family, her father must be 15 years younger than me and I was teasing him calling him "Papa", then he decided that we should drink some beer, well one beer led to another beer etc. and every time my back was turned my glass suddenly became refilled of this 7% beer we were drinking.
Well I don't remember going to bed that evening except that my clothes, with all my money in, were in a pile beside the bed. Next morning I discretely went to the toilet and whilst sitting on the loo I counted my money ... It was all present and correct, she hadn't touched it.
"A trick that hookers do,, is to put something heavy like a brick in their purse"
Nah is more likely drugs , knife and/or taser....
I don't do hooker but in case she turnout to be one...she can stay in the room and is ok if she takes it all....Passport, wallet and my Iphone go with me anywhere.
