I have had similar experiences with true dutch oven cooking with my grandmother. She actually used the fireplace in her house to cook those kinds of dishes (a true dutch oven). That's been a LONG time ago. Of course, you can us a real oven, but there is something to be said for the old ways in terms of nostalgia.

As tasty as it may sound, I would be grateful if we could avoid mentioning rabbit stew. I came to this site to forget the bunny boilers of the past.
I'm dragging this out, but I will also state that the preparation for a Dutch Oven in your case needs to be done carefully. If you rush you, you'll end up with Hershey sauce in the dish, and no ones wants that!
SCottlf, I was camped out on the desert once on some ranch for 3 or 4 months, every meal was prepared in dutch ovens in an open fire pit by our cook. I was surprized to hear them metioned here.
I have immigrant grandparents, and they actually used these. Granted, this was in use in a fireplace and not and open fire pit, but the usage is the same.
At this point, what would have been very humorous with the group would be if you all discussed Ayn Rand around the fire!
Food, Lucy's friend Olga who has returned to Moldova for a month visit says that there is some good food in the U.S., especially the Pizza! But all in all she did not think to highly of our food here. To much process, frozen and packaged food. In Moldova they are used to eating "Natural Food". I do not think that this means certified organic. (It is probably loaded with pesticides and herbicides, I doubt that ther would be a strong functional USFDA (US food and drug administartion) or much in the way of quality controls). But I take natural to mean that they cook with more raw and fresh vegetables and meats, and have less processed foods.
If Lu comes over here it could be the best of both worlds in a culinary sence: cooking with more fresh foods, which are grown to higher specs. I like eating natural foods, but with 6 hungry mouths toi feed and an insane schedule it ends up to often being frozen foods and restaurants. Lucy, please save me from my dreary culinaru existance!
No,Tim not beans.LOL......well, maybe some, but also about everything else you could think of including biscuits(American) and desserts.............you probably saw Blazing Saddles.
