You should read a book called "Lone Star Planet" by H. Beam Piper. In that story, it is legal to kill politicians. In fact, depending on what the politician did to deserve being killed, you might be fined if the death wasn't violent enough.
Have you read Little Fuzzy, Fuzzy sapiens, or Space Viking Scott ?
Wasn't so keen on the Fuzzies, but Space Viking rocks !!
"Space Opera" is one of my preferred reads :o)
Ive read that particular book more times than I can remember, but the others only once each many years ago.
Iain M Banks is excellent too. Consider Phlebas, The player of Games, Use of Weapons. His books about "The Culture" are awesome !!!
Another KING of this genre is Robert Heinlein, Job, Stranger in a strange land, Starship Troopers (yes guys he wrote the book the film was based on) The rolling stones (but the copy I read wasn't called by that name), Have Space Suit Will Travel, and his absolute classic "Time enough for Love". That book has to be one of the best books I have ever read.
"Starship Troopers" the movie got the politics mostly correct. I would say the rest of the film was loosely based on the book.
I've only read a couple of books by H. Beam Piper. If you life him, I suspect you would like James P. Hogan. He is from England. Check out his web site. www.jamesphogan.com. He has some good stuff.
Nisse, I have been corresponding with a lady from Latvia. She wrote to me. Our correspondence has had some shallow letters and I ask about it. What ever it was she got over it and began to write very wonderful letters. She is highly intellegent and a professional. She is very respectful,Ask the best questions for us to get to know each other. She is up on the list with me and a future. We have lettered about romance, and passion. I was going to say how but I forgot where I was. The imput , don't stereotype any of these woman is the best. You never know until you get to know more about them. I have found if I question anything and I can get the courage to ask. Most have answered hands down.
Easy now fellows, there is a difference between a politician and a statesman! In the US we have a few statesmen, but mostly politicians and that's why we are a little fucked up here. It's pretty scary when the two best Candidates are Kerry and Bush, but we have to be grassroots and start electing statesmen again. I don't encourage people not to vote, but I sure would love to see a common sense voting test before you are allowed to vote. Too many morons in the voting booths here. To all the Brits, it was an honor to have Lady Thatcher here for Reagans funeral.
If you guys looking for ladies who have traditional values, I recommend age group 55-105. I guarantee, they are really traditional, at least most of them. And tradman, have you EVER personally met somebody from Estonia 30-35 years old????????
Annika first let me welcome you here:)
second I have to disagree with according to women in age group 55-105...I believe they have not traditional values, but rather Soviet values...which are not too good for me...
Of course it depends on what you understand under "traditional values":)))
Why are sp angry??? didn't you read the forum??? if you did, then you should know that I live in Ukraine, in east Ukraine, which was under Russian, much longer then Estonia...and I'm for forgeting the past, though not making the mistakes of the past again...don't you think that thinking about future is much better then living in the past???
yes, Estonia was occupied by Russia, so was Ukraine, Belarus and a gazillion other countries. US was occupied by England, Iraq is occupied by US, Vietnam was occupied by France and US, Argentina was occupied by Spain. North Africa, Poland, France and many others were was occupied by Germany and almost the entire known world at the time was occupied by the roman empire.....and on and on and on all over the planet since the beginning of time.
Annika, get over it.
Your country is free of occupation now and a member of EU.
Make the best of it.
Completely agree with you Toad...if we will get deeper into the history we will see that many countries were occupied...but they got over somehow over this. Ok some echoes of the past may be present...but that doesn't disturb people much.
Oops! I just wanted to say if person havent been in Baltic States recently, its better not to judge about people and their values! Especially if that person lives in Alabama or whatever. Im was not going to discuss politics with CIS people.
It's OK Annika, I think that nobody here is for discussing politics, as it's not too good thing...IMHO. I never give advices, but I would advice you this time to be more attentive to what have been written:) And I hope that you will become a frequent visitor here, and will enjoy staying here:)
And you don't like smart people???:) By the way I'm a girl:)))
And I'm here for a couple of months here, and I live in Ukraine, and I'm not looking for a foreign husband...though of course different people like different things:)))
