That people in siberia earned 120% extra compared to the average russian was first in law and sponsored by state and is now taken over by the oil companies.
The altai krai is one of the poorest regeons of russia and is also in siberia (900R or so in 2000) But if i look now at pictures from persons out from that area (on a penpal site trough translation software) i see modern furniture expansive offices plenty of cars etc, Therefore i assume that the salary between on one side the factory worker, the truck driver and on the other end people working with a higher education in offices is enormus, but i can only guess. What i also find peculiar is that people who are doctor scientist etc give up there job to become employee at a bank because that earns more (one girls profile) I even find girls who have a phd or master and are now beautician or hairdresser, is that because that is private sector and earns better or because they wheren't luckey enough to find a job in there field?. (a scientist earn from 30,000 and up a doctor from 50,000-70,000 at hospital and up to 150,000 in certain privat groups. a hairdresser earns absolute minimum wage app 10,000 based on 40 hr. buy the way for comparessing we belgium/netherlands/scandinavie pay app 70% in taxes and social security of that salary, i assumme that is below 20% in cis countries?
Toad i thought a teacher in the us earned about 27,000 or 37,000 a year. There has been a research about tips, the more expansive the restaurant was the higher the tips (seems to be a percentage of the meal price) but also girls got more than twice what boys got especialy if they smile a lot and are ample supplied.
Waiters in the Netherlands (Holland to some of you) don't get any near that amount except maybe in the 2 and 3 (michelin) star restaurants but then they are metredin or so.
Not at all...This kid would need at least 500cc of implants to get considered for a Hooters job, lol...
I know she makes higher income than many people do, but the restaurant waitresses in this area make good money.
She's now trying to get a waitress job at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point where dinner servers make around 5k per month.
Regardless of income, it is what you keep at the end of the month that counts, not how much you make.
I live in south orange county, california.
the cost of living in this area is quite higher than the national average...but worth every penny.
Teacher incomes in this area are higher than the numbers you posted.
2000 in disposable income after saving 1000 is pretty good, yes, but only possible for her because her only expenses are car insurance, fuel, maintenance, her own clothes, entertainment and of course the darn cell phone bill...:)...if she had to pay rent, utilities and food at home, she could not save as much as she does or have as much to spend.
Ron you can't compare salaries in the private and municipal sector here...private sector pays the person as much as he is worth with his work. In municial sector there are fixed salaries.
As far as I know one of my ex-groupmates works in a good restaurant as a waitress and she earns 100 $ per month, which is considered to be a high salary for the waitress.
Regarding how much you can save...I know that my boyfriend and I we spend about 30-40 $ per week, to buy GOOD food, and not cheap food, and food which shelf life is over. And with buying GOOD food we keep us healthy and ready to work 24/7. This what gives us the opportunity to eat good, and to enjoy life, going out from time to time, or having a drink at home. But at the same time my boyfriend comes home at 3-4 in the morning and leaves to work at 9-10 in the morning as well...
Life is pretty hard if a person has to work from 10 am till 3 am and still does not have a good protion of his/her money left for savings at the end of the month
:)) I just got used to it a lot, and I like when all the efforts are valued in a good way:) As I graduated now, I think that very soon I will start working on a private firm (as soon as I will find the one) and will still continue giving services on private translations to my friends...which will be hard of course, but this is what I used to as well...as my mom says "I'm very sorry that you at your young age have to work so much, but we can't provide you with everything you need"...and though they still believe, and many other parents believe that a girl shouldn't work until she graduates, many feel better, as my parents did when they stopped giving me out the pocket money.
In the US most teenagers over the age of 15 are encouraged to work part time, at least. This does not interfere of casues detriment to their school work.
My "young age" when mt parents stopped to give me out the pocket money was 20 years. Now I'm 22. But here a girl usually is considered to be a "young girl" until she gets married, and this can be at any age. And of course my parents, as well as the majority of parents, would like me to live with them.
Pitchka, you bring interesting perspectives to life in Ukraine.
I have found money is a relative subject depending on where you live.
For Example a home in Indiana that costs 150,000 dollars in Long Island New York will cost over half a million dollars and property
taxes of over 10,000 dollars a year.
I was reading on the economy in Ukraine and what was printed is the average GDP for a Ukrainian citizen is roughly 2200 US dollars a year.
That is pretty close to what you have informed us before in other
threads.
There are some advantages for us here in the States. The lady I'm meeting in November and I have decided to spend the week in Crimea.
It is in the off season and I have found a cottage there for 29 dollars a month. You can't rent a flea bag motel room in the States for 29 dollars a night.
Ptichka your input on Crimea would be helpful for me also. Let me know dear. Also working at a young age doesn't hurt. I did it, my daughter did it. It helps build a good work ethic and character.
Money, Economy, Budget,......
-lots of info about Money, some about Economy, not much about Budget....
-what about 'rainy days' (i.e. 'spare' for time when extra expenses hit)? -of course that's hard if all days are rainy!
So,
bride from Former Sovjet Union will have no experience with
mortgage
superannuation contribution
car loan
car insurance
credit cards
store cards
health insurance
etc.
-and all other 'buy now, pay a hell lot more later' schemes..
???
when she comes to 'the west'
Sancho,
You're correct that every single one of the things you listed will be new things for the eastern woman to learn to deal with when she comes to live in a western country.
That's why it's imperative for the man to have a good handle on the financial stability of his household, not only for their mutual security, but also to help her make the transition as smoothly as possible.
Mike, I'm very glad to be helpful in any subject on life here:)
As for Crimea, theoretically we devide it into 2 parts, South part of the Crimea, and the rest territory of it. South part of Crimea is much warmer, the better resorts are placed there, but the prices higher there as well. The season lasts there longer as well.
The majority of people who live in Crimea, works during the whole season hardly, and then they can live the rest of the year on the money they earned during the season.
The cities in Crimea, except for Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta, are small towns, and some are the settlements, where all people rent their houses out and they have their income on that.
If you will tell me more exactly what you're interested about, I will give you a more detailed information then:)
"Also working at a young age doesn't hurt. I did it, my daughter did it. It helps build a good work ethic and character", but here it's not a traditional thing for girls to start working in an early age and live away from their parents before getting married. It became common only for my generation mostly, and for some girls from the previous generation.
Here it's not a common thing not to be married until 30 years old. Usually young men get married in their 26-28, and young girls in their 23-25. Or even earlier.
Sometimes the bride is 17 and groom is 19...it all depends. And when I see a girl not older then 16 with a small child on her hands (especially when I myself know that it's her child) I feel a rather old girl:))) Just kidding of course...but I personally think that becoming a wife and a mother at 16 is not a very good thing, both from physical and from mental side.
Speaking of"In the magazin russian life the following was mentioned: avg salary in furniture factory in (t)omsk $300,
reasonable experienced oilrig worker $700-$1000 (kanty-mansi autonomus okrug area=nefteyugank)"....
they forgot to mention something here. yeah people who work in siberia and kanty-mansi autonomus okrug area=nefteyugank get around 700-1000$ that seems to be pretty good money for russia. But the life is much more expenvive there. Food, fruits-prices are incomparable with central Russia. Thats why some people go there for seasonal jobs. They get money there and spend them home.
Speaking of banking system and savings-here is the article of whats going here right now
