Hey buckeye,
No check done yet, I haven't decided I'm going to meet this women yet. If it progresses for another month, I will make arrangments to meet her and have a check done. But who knows, today she wrote and asked if I was interested in coming to meet her. Maybe I won't wait a month :)
doggy, ok. Of course, no sense in running a background check until you decide to go meet her (of course, run the check before you book tickets!!!). What the background check will report is if the addresss you give him is correct, what type of work she actually does, phone number if available, family members, etc. It is worth the money for this info. But get her addresss and phone number ahead of time. Good luck with this lady. Hell, I cant blame ya for wanting to get over there with her! I remember the 2 months I had to wait after I booked my tickets. THen, I decided two weeks before I was to go to stay for a longer period of time and go a week sooner! Plane ticket prices were murder for such a short time frame, but well worth it!
I have her phone number but not her address yet. The most important part, if the basics check out, will be anything that will keep her from getting a fiance' visa. I would hate to fall in love with her and not be able to bring her back to the States. Sheesh!, I can't imagine trying to move all my junk over there :)
Get her address. If she is unwilling to give it to you, theres a problem. And just because the basic background check comes back ok, there is still other things that can go wrong with the K-1 fiance visa....
Buckeyeman maybe it's better to do the background check and not write to the girl at all???:) If you say that they are so good in checking:)
rdoggy if you will ever do the check and then will go to your girl, never ever in your life tell her that you did the check!!! People here value their private life (which includes all aspects of life, except for being on public) too much.
By the way about the work, maybe people work not officially, I mean they are not signed in the accountant documents though get the salary.
If you're not officially eployed, no state pension. The state pension depends on how many years you worked officially.
And summer and winter leave: there is only one vacation per year.
syndicate...don't understand what you're talking about....:)
But don't forget that in private sector (this is where usually people work not officially) the salary is higher then in state (where you will work officially, but you will get the minimum salary which is about 40-50 $ per month if I'm correct). And by the way in the state sector there is also only 1 vacation per year.
Sorry, my knowledge of english language is far better than that of ukrainian and russian language together (lol), but still unsufficient (often): Syndicate - trade union.
How do you travel to the Black Sea vacation? I found hotel prices of 70 - 130 US$ per night! This is just normal world-wide price (at least in almost every capitol of Europe you can find a decent hotel for this sum).
Trade unions have no much power here, and I would never myself turn to them, they do not have much activities.
Well, you see personally I never stop at the hotel at the Black sea, it's much more cheaper to rent a flat there. For example, 2 years ago, we went to the Black sea, 4 of us went there, and we paid for the 2rooms flat 17 $ per night. If you will devide that for 4 people, that's rather cheap, and we lived almost in the center of the city.
One can rent a flat, at least it was in Feodosya, though rather far from the center for 5-10 $ per night.
And personally I don't work for the state company, I work for the private company.
Rdog, yeah, I wasnt happy about doing the check either, but you are right. To not do so, is insane.
Ptichka, I recommend doing a check if you have reason to suspect or after many letters and before a visit, is all I said. You have to write the girls first to have reason to suspect, right??? Just because you are an honest FSU woman doesnt mean all FSU women are! Just like western men, some are honest, some are not!
I think a year or two in Russia, Ukraine, Estonia or some other FSU country would have been very exciting to experience over a period of time. I think I would have loved to live there for a year or two. Unfortunately there is just not possible for me to do it. But I am sure I would have loved it!!
inventor, Just go on if you have the opportunity to do it, I am 100% sure you will have a great time there. I just wish I could do the same, but only for a couple of years...
Please come back and tell us how things are developing, and give us situation reports also after you arrive, and let us know how things are.
