It does not surprise me that jmluv's bad experience originates from the city of Kiev. I spent only 10 days there out of a planned one month. I had to flee this city. I found Kiev to be the most corrupted city I have ever visited in my life. Thier treatment of foreigners is disgusting. Kiev better clean up its act before they host the Euro Vision contest there next year. It will be interesting what kind of review Kiev will get from its fellow European neighbors. If they don't clean up the corruption it will be a feeding frenzy. I have very close friendships with people in the business (Marriage Agency) in the cities of Kiev and Kharkov. It is a known fact among the locals in Kiev that the girls treat dating the foreigners as a part time job. We are a second source of income to them. "It's your fault! That's what you get for giving them money or gifts!" Wrong! I did none of that. No, these girls have other ways to get money from you. The local favorite and the easiest is the negotiation of the Taxi fare at the end of your date. You stop a taxi for her. She negotiates the price in Russian. She then tells you she needs 60 grivna. The real fare is only 10 grivna. She will pocket the change. Another one is the kickback. When you go to an agency for a date. The girl you chose agrees to the date. You pay the agency the introduction fee $20-$40. She will get a kickback from the agency for that date. Some girls have arrangements with certain restaurants or bars. She will tell you where she wants to go. Once there she will order the most expensive food and wine. She pads the bill for the restaurant or club. They in turn will give her kickbacks in the form of cash or free passes. Another one they like to use is "My friend will be our interpreter during our date". At the end of the date she will pressure you to pay her friend for this service. The next day they split the money. The police, Taxi's, Marriage agencies, and of course the girls. CORRUPTION! Kiev is a city you can take a girl you already know from another city for a weekend get away. Do not go to Kiev to find the girl of your dreams. Not only do you have to deal with the corruption you must have to deal with the Big city spoiled girl attitude. Are there good girls in Kiev? I'm sure there are but the odds are against you. Stick to the smaller cities guys. Kharkov was great. idiotdetector Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 9/27/2004 4:00:48 AM   Deanis, I only spent 1 day in Kiev during my stopover from Gorlovka (Donetsk region) The agency asked me for $30US to meet this girl, which I found strange because I had already corresponded with her, it was not there introduction. I cab driver gave me a tour of the city, about 3-4 hours for $100US. I did not think it was so bad. I got a taxy from the airport hotel to the city later to meet this girl. The hotel said it would be 80 Grevners one way. This cab driver could not find the address, we had some problems which took a long time. Finaly we found it and he came in to make sure everything was O.K. for me. The meeting feel though, I gave to agency nothing and the driver took me home. I asked how much, he said 100 grevners, I gave him 150 for his trouble as he did help me which I appreciated. I do not know but maybe some of you just look gulable because I had no real trouble but I only stayed a day. It was funny really, we seperated for a while, I saw her sneak back to the Exchange place, when I quizzed her about it after she finally admitted that she got a kickback, guess how much? two lousy dollars!! I realised she wasn't too interested in me, but it opened my eyes to how thorough these ladies can be. By the was Deanis this wasn't even in Kiev, so my feeling is its possibly more widespread than just a big city thing. Personally speaking after visiting Ukraine couple of times I found it pretty tiresome panning for gold there due to the sneaky nature of the women I met, which was a fair few. After visiting Russia numerous times I found generally more honest there, although more choosy and perhaps demanding, but in an honest kind of way. But in Russia I have had more problems with getting ripped off or over charged in other ways, but not thru any lady I was with. I'm not saying ALL women in Ukraine are bad or anything, just relating my own personal experience, I really think the problem is that Ukraine is becoming such a ' well trodden path' due to ease of getting visa that the numbers of foreign men visiting is relatively high, compared to other places in FSU. The last scammer I dumped like a bad habit was a gorgeous 6' blonde from riga, latvia....The last straw was her demand I buy her a webcam for her computer.
