It deson't seem possible though to ditch (or put better- to make insignificant the potential impact of). She DOES want to try very hard to find an American man for Mommy (I have a sign-up sheet for any readers here, who might be interested). I told her that there is a rather well establsihed community of Russian people living in Milwaukee and that we could probably find someone (I'm trying...) but she said she wants an American man for Mommy as American men are better. (Yea for the red while and blue....with the stars and stripes).
As strange as this might seem Mommy sometimes seems to be a good thing in one regard. Look, this woman is absolutely gorgeous. and while I haven't stopped any clocks or broken any mirrors (not in the last weeks or so anyway) I am not even on the same scale that she is.
We all know that woman have a lot more choices here, a lot more opportunities. And I would be lying if I did not admit that I have concern that she might jump ship when she can - when she is over here. (Sometimes this just seems too good to be true.)
Depending on me to send Mommy a small amount every month as we work to bring her over is NOT my idea of an ideal situation - if it helps one single iota to keep us together - I'm willing.
I mean - i know that if things don't work out - its not the end of the world and I can always try again. - But, damn, I hope thigs work out.
Thunder - your secret is safe - only in times of severe stress do I talk to myself - and if that happens I 'll hard not to even bring it up. Your secret is safe from me, with me.
Okay - here is my semi-regular rant about the K-1 visa system. Gotta get it off my chest. Beleive it or not - there is another web site I frequent now that has to do with this stuff. I spend almost as much time there. (I've just given up sleeping for the time being.)
We have FOUR "Service Centers" (a misnomer if there ever was one) in the US. And you have no choice about which to apply to.
The Vermont Center typically makes people wait 12 days for the NOA2 (approval).
The California Center maybe 30 days.
The Texas Center has been sending IT'S applicants to the California Center - also 30 days.
The Nebrask Center 90 to 120 DAYS!!!
This is ludicrous and ridiculous. Especially when you hear people who have applie din Vermont and are now up to day twelve talking about how the wait is "KILLING ME".
Try waiting 90 DAYS! Or 120!
I'm up to day 54 myself - probably about halfway there.
Oh and if they send out a request for additional information - in other centers it may add two weeks to the time. In Nebraska its TWO EXTRA MONTHS.
Nebraska in a flurry APPROVED a whole lot of visa petitions....INCLUDING MINE!!!!
That's right folks. Who'da thunk it.
Two weeks and it goes off to the NVC (National Visa Center) in New Hamphire.
A week (to FOUR) after that it gets forwarded to Bucharest.
A week after that she gets what is affectionately refered to as Packet Three - some of which she has to send right back to the embassy - some of shich she takes to her medical and interview.
Guys - if all goes well (and there is no reason to beloeve that it will...) she could be here in the good old U. S. of A. in as little as six weeks!!!
i remember chatting with my fiance in her kitchen last november about how in 4 or 5 weeks we would finally be together and that was after the nva already shipped it to the embassy overseas. here it is in the middle of february and we still have 8 days to go....imagine that. i hope you don't have our luck. i can't believe that in a few days she finally leaves for moscow. this wait really sucked. even after all the visits and time we spent together, were still both on pins and needles until this is over. when she gets here in 15 to 25 days (whenever she actually receives her visa), we are going into hibernation and we wont be seen for days, i'm sure you guys can relate to that. =))
Actually there are benefits to be gained if she comes in six or eight weeks or if it takes longer.
I am torn.
Literally.
What I mean is that I have a rotator cuff tear that has to be surgically repaired in the next week or two. I've had the experience before (other side) so I know that it is EXTREMELY PAINFUL and not exactly the way I want to be (in intense pain) when she comes over. Still I will be off of work for some duration of time.
So there are advantages either way. (Kind of like the glass half empty or half full thing.)
If it takes a few months - at least I will be better healed!
That's a good question Jet, I have no idea what happened. My lawyer kept telling me to relax and there was no problem. That what we were going through was "normal". We both have never been married, she has no children, we both never applied before. We even have clean histories, no brushes with the law or anything like that.
You know, I'm sitting here looking at my I-797 notice of action and I just noticed its from the California Service Center. How is this possible? I live in south Florida and my petition was submitted to the Texas Service Center. this looks a little screwy to me =\
Crash - the other website I have been frequenting recently is www.visajourney.com and they have forums set up for each of the various service centers. Nebraska, Claifornia, Texas and Vermost.
Texas has been notoriousy slow - and recently EVERYBODY who had applied in Texas - during the last few months had their applications transfered to California. Some benefited by having very short waits. Some didn't.
But people at that site have been wondering aloud whther Texas does ANY fiance visas anymore.
Our visa petition has been approved by the Nebraska Service Centerand we are now patiently waiting for the NVC (National Visa Center) to aknowledge that it has received our application - in order to assign us a case number and to pass it on to Bucharest.
Meanwhile - my fiance, who will be traveling to Romania with her mother fot the interview informed me that her mother has no passport so she cannot enter Romania - and it takes a month to get one. She has just applied but we know we will have to wait for her interview until that document arrives.
Likewise, since I need three years of tax records, and have always filed electronically - I have had to order transcrpts from the IRS. And I will prepare this years taxes...any day now.
My fiance also has to order a police report from the Minister of the Interior which will take two weeks.
We are simply waiting for all four of these paper situations to come together - for the next step - her medical and interview in Bucharest.
Jet
Would I be right in thinking that this is the second step? To just file the K1 here in the states it is just necesary for me to fill in the i294 and mail it?
I don't know what an i294 is. I just googled it and came up with (among other things) a highway. :) (Please don't fill in any highways - and if you do - don't mail them. ;) )
What I am sure you meant filling in the I-129F and mailing it. Yes, that is the first step, whereas above I am refering to what we are doing after our visa petition has been approved.
The I-129F form isn't difficult but it is tedious as you try to put everything together just so. And its nerve-wracking after you have sent it in and begun the 60, 90 or 120 wait that sometimes follows and you begin to wonder if that tiny little error you remember making, or the little way you could have improved it, will result in rejection or delay.
If I'm not mistaken you live in Florida so you will file through the Texas Service Center. Lately they have been forwarding all of their I-129Fs to th California Service Center - which will actually reduce your wait.
After you get you NOA1 (Notice of Action 1) indicating that they have merely received your petition and placed it in a queue you will begin you wait for the eventual NOA2 (obviously, Notice Of Action 2) which will indicate that your petition has been APPROVED. Before that, however you might get an RFI (Request For Information) which means that either the service center was not entirely satsfied by something you sent in, or they lost something. You have to respond of course with whatever they request anf know that you petition has just experienced a decent delay.
THEN after the APPROVAL (mentioned in the above paragraph) you application (from any service center) gets forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center) in New Hampshire where the State Department is now in control of it (previously it was the Department of Homeland Security). And now, supposedly, you will receive notice of its receipt (still waiting for this one ourselves) and then notice that it has been passed on to the consolate requested in you I-129F petition.
Toad
These people don't scare me. They can try to confuse me as much as they want with their oh so clever i294s and I-129Fs.
I have nothing to offer but blood sweat and tears and what is more I shall fight them on the beaches.
This is government we are talking about here. These people communicate in form language. I speak it fluently. All you have to do is fill in the forms carefully and they will understand. I will not use any long words like wheelbarrow or threatening ones like exterminate. It will be ok.
Now I have to have my vodka drip changed.
Oh my God 5 days until lift off! It is really sinking in, I have been waiting since I got the ticket in november. Now I shall have to change my underwear.
