Thanks Izi and Trav:
I appreciate the thoughts. Yes we did it ntirely with out an attorney. But I'm especially proud of her - going to a foreign country (Romania) that she had never been to before and doing this without me. (Of course we did talk a lot by phone.)
Good one Jet. You are definably due for positive outcomes !!!!
I agree with what you have written about "the cost factor" Its irrelevant really. When you broke it down and then divided into time, its peanuts.
And remember, as I mentioned, I (we actually - she and I) accomplished this entire fiance vis thing without having to pay an attorney a nickle.
Would $1610 be reasonable for attorneys fees during this entire process? If so - its a wash. I do every improvement she's wanted done in her apartment for 15 years for waht I saved in attorney fees alone.
How about that. This woman is gorgeous, fun to be with, exotic, exciting and I love her very much. And for the price that some guys slap down for attorneys fees - I've taken care of everything.
I HATE to describe a woman as a "bargain". Makes her sound like a pair of shoes> But looked at this way she is one.
Of course we anre not out tof the woods yet. She IS firmly attached to mommy and she makes no secret of that. And that problem is far from being solved.
Just a general comment - looking over some of the other posts in this thread.
I love my fiance, without a doubt. But if (heaven forbid) something happens where it can't work out - the absolutely only thing I know with complete certainty - is that My wife, girfriend, fiance - my significant other WILL BE a Russian woman or at least a woman from the FSU.
As has been said by many on this forum - and as is the only reason for this forum to exist in the first place - THERE ARE no women in the world like those from the FSU!!
I have not dated an American woman in about three years - and can not see myself ever doing that again.
Interesting note - by the way (I think anyway) - My fiance and I recently had a discussion on this and I told her some of my favorite horror stories of my experiences dating American women. I have quite a few such stories. She enjoyed them but then asked me "Jet (okay she used my real name)... what is this "date" what does it mean when you say you dated them - when you say you dated a woman does that mean you slept with them?"
I had to explain that a "date" was just an arranged meeting with - courting purposes in mind. I told her that I had honestly not slept with anywhere near all of the women I have dated - that some "relationships" end after a single date (especially in my horror story cases where I sometimes met the girl over the internet) and that man girls don't even KISS on the first date.
She appeared relieved. I only WISH that I had been enough of a Casonova to have slept with all the women I ever dated. Well - except for the horror stories of course.
I don't have my paperwork at hand immediately soI will have to look that up.
I can tell you however that there is an intermediate step there in the middle.
After the embassy in Bucharest receives your paperwork from the NVC they will send something called "Packet 3" to your fiance in Moldova directly. It will come by "simple mail" (as my fiance calls it - meaning regular Moldova mail service) and it can take two weeks for this packet to make the trip from Bucharest to Moldova alone.
This packet will contain Form OF-230 Part 1 (Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration) and Form OF-169, which is essentially a checklist that serves to tell the consolate that you have collected all of the other neccessary documents including. police report, birth certificate translated, etc. etc.
She needs to complete these two forms and send them BACK to Bucharest before an appointment date for an interview will be given. I our case the initial interview date was VERY soon after she had sent the paperwork for Packet 3 in - April 14th to be exact. Unfortuantely I did not have my income taxes done - which are neccessary for the Affadavit Of Support (an item on OF-169) and she must have in her hands before the interview. So we sceduled for May 19th.
I will try to find more accurate dates for you and post again.
We are waiting for the packet from US Embassy in Bucharest now. All the documents have already been prepared. As soon as Jenia receives the packet, she will mail the forms back immediately. I am glad to hear you say that the interview appointment came very soon after they received the returned forms. Thanks for your help!
One more question Jet, when them "man" girls finally give in, do they like a lot of tongue action when they kiss?? :o) Sorry Jet, couldn't resist! I would have never caught your typo unless you mentioned it.
I kind of thought about that - I make so many typos that no one is likely to catch the one I noticed as being particularly bad, unless I corrected it. But by then I was well into my correction anyway - so I thought I'd finish it. It DID make my original post a lot more funny than I intended it to be.
Yeah - that's the ticket. My "Y" key keeps getting stuck. Sometime my "r" key and sometime whole words get stuck and retype themselves often time misspelling themselves....twice.
Just kidding of course.
I have noticed though that when the batteries start going weak on my cordless keyboard - about hald the letters suddenly seem not to show up.
"that's the ticket" & "I hate it when that happens".
Two references to old Satyrday Night Live characters. "The Liar" John.... (can't recall his last name) for the first and Billy Chrystal's Jewish guy for the second.
I HOPE that is why you responded with that particular phrase Maxirat and that it wasn't random - in which case I am just blathering on nonsensically here.....
Latest news on fiance - I may have mentioned how much time she has to join me in the US before - if I did - I was MISTAKEN - becasue I found out just when she got our fiancce visa that she has SIX months to actually come to America and start her 90 days. We are both very happy of course.
SInce - I don't live in a "hub" city and there are no direct flights from Moldova to the US and not even a single airline that SERVICES Moldova and any US airport, it will take a minimum of THREE seperat flights (plane changes) for her to fly to my home city. She has never flown beofe (except for the short flight she just took to Bicharest) and does not relish the idea of switching airplanes in busy international airports alone.
I have two weeks of vacation in late July and al thinking of flying to Chisinau ofr a week to be with her and then flying back with her to spend our first week in america together. That's going to be expensive - but so far that is the plan.
She very much wants to see an ocean (and she looks terrific in a bikini) so she wants to visit an ocean as soon as she can. We don't have a lot of coeans in Wisconsin and the Great Lakes don't count (though to be fair we have sand beaches on Lake Michigan - huge waves and seven or eight really warm days per year). I have two weeks of vacation in September and October and we are considering spending that time in Florida if I can find a deal.
My home city is in Wisconsin as some of you might know. Her interviewer in Bucharest was an American guy who told her that Wiscosnin is home of the "frozen tundra" of Green Bay Packer fame - telling her that it is never warm here!!
We actually are a slightly more southern latitudianl line than her home city and really get above freezing from time to time - having stretches over 90 degrees for weeks at a time in the summer. I am having a hard time convincing her of that now.
reading this - have you considered to go to Greece with her, or Cypres? I mean, the tickets you're going to spend in any case, a holiday you 2 will have too, so re-routing via some 'beach' I suppose is not that much extra.
Hey, you might even team up with Wtrav - beware of the Ouzo then eh ;-)
I have a great deal for you....come on down as I am in Florida and have plenty of room! No kidding...and only a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and not far over to Miami area or the Fl Keys....and I have a place there you can use also. Plenty of cheap flights to Florida that time of year too. And if you are very (un)lucky you can experience a real hurricane!
Anytime come on over. Easy drive for you. I want to get over and check out the sites I've heard of on South Beach....NOT the men...I understand the women often sunbath without the tops! I'll try not to strain my eyes...
