Ptichka, read the essenses of "Barbarossa" plan. One of the corner stones is that not more than 25% of the local population of Slavonic countries could be left alive. And the left 25% were destined as trully Worldtraveller has mentioned to work as half slaves at the farms of German land lords. Very nice liberation it would be.
What was really tragic about the end of the war is really that all who would return from being kept in german concentration camps in 90% of cases would be killed or sentensed to 25 years as betrayers.
felicedate, and according to the plan, which luckily wasn't put into life by the USSR, the whole population of Ukraine had to be killed or sent to Syberia...but nobody likes to talk about it:)
Anyway, as I said this was in past, the only good thing is to have a good lesson from it and not to repeat the same things in the future....talking about past is never an optimistic thing to my mind....
There is an important distinction between talking about the past and dwelling on it. It is important to talk about the past because "Those who refuse to learn the lessons of history, are doomed to repeat them", as you said.
Don't think all conservatives don't understand the history and plight of the native american. As being right winged as you can get, I am a support of freeing Leonard Peltier. Another typical and tyrannical operation by the FBI and using military against citizens. Posse Comitatus at it's finest.
WorldTraveller I couldn't agree with you more. I still think an independent Ukraine without the EU and the Kremlin is the best route for the country. I'm not so sure behind the motives of leadership in Ukraine and the EU is in the best interest of the Ukrainian people.
But unfortunately it is harder and harder to stand outside the EU...
In Norway we are lucky to have the oil, but still it is getting harder and harder...
You see, if we can't sell our products, what use is it to produce them?
I should clarify something here. Every person is an individual capable of great merit and also great sin. The Dutch people of today or the ancestors of a Georgia plantation owner are not responsible for slavery any more than modern women are responsible for Eve and her forbidden fruit. It makes me a little sick to go on and on about the "plight" of todays tribal native Americans. The Northern Cheyenne of today are not the same men who whipped the seventh calvaries butt. Maybe I should have a little store in Stockholm because my great grandparents were Swedes. No man should piggyback on the greatness of their ancestors,as if they have a life owed to them because of their tribal descendence. We all have to share this world, and people need to get on with it,stop whining about what they don`t have, and learn to like what it is they do have and are fortunate enough to enjoy. Celebrate having your limbs,fingers,toes--because there are 10 year old kids out there who will never know manual dexterity. We write about not having hair--feel lucky to have a life. It is not a guarantee-it is the providence of living on grace.
I`m not denying that fact... but do u really think that women were not raped here? And know how german soldiers treated russian civilians or captives? How many were brutally killed or incinerated alive (including children, women and old people)?
So there were losses on both sides
