Archangel1,
But there are no IP addresses when paying your USD30.00 monthly to fiance.com, that's the whole point, there are no emails, just online communications
IP tracer can only be orientative. IP tracer finds out the location of the internet provider, not always the final user. A girl may send you a letter from Tunguska, and the IP tracer would tell you she is in Moscow, because her internet providerīs central is in Moscow.
In my case, when I trace my own IP, an IP tracer thinks I am in a different city of where I am actually, so, someone could think I am an scammer!
On the other hand, many internet users have dynamic IP, this means, a new IP is assigned to the user each time he gets connected. In my conutry Dynamic IP has becomed standard. So, someone can send you 100 emails in different days from the same computer, and each email will come from a different IP.
Anyway, A girl wrote to me time ago, apparently from Belarus, and actually, her IP was from California. It was already suspicious that her emails were usually send between 3 and 4AM in russian time. In this case, and IP tracer was useful to clarify.
With IP addresses, each internet provider and organisation is allocated a range of numbers by IANA (Internet Address Numbering Authority). This range of numbers never changes..eg UKR.NET , a Ukrainian ISP might be allocated IP numbers in the range of say 201.100.60.58 to 201.150.180.58, this is a rough example but it might give a range of 10,000 or more IP addresses that they use for there dial up servers so IP trace will only tell you where the core servers of the ISP are and they can be 100s of kilometres away from the girls computer.
The internet is connected together in nodes and connections can be routed through many servers.
No IP trace can trace a girl down to her street address..only police authorities have the technology to do that by tapping.
In dial up connections, the IP address is dynamic...it will always change each time you dial up and log on but the IP address will always be in the range of IP numbers allocated to the ISP by IANA and the ISP server will allocate you an IP address when you dial up and log on out of the batch of addresses allocated to them.
IP address numbers are unique to countries..each country has a set of IP addresses allocated for use by ISP and networks in that country and it never changes.
Cable and ADSL broadband addresses are also dynamic but in Australia and most developed countries, you can get a fixed or static IP address by paying extra money for it.
Ip address tracing can be a very useful tool for detecting scammers but you need to look at other things too, warning signs, weird times when the e-mail is sent ( eg times when even the owl has had enough off of nocturnal activity and should be sleeping!) and other stuff.
Aussieman, Thatīs what I said. You can not get -not always- the exact location of the sender by tracing the IP.
Just want to add that 100km is not the range of accuracy of this sistem. As I said before, when i trace my own IP, the tracer gives the location of my provider central, which is 600-700 km away. And I live in a big city.
I have a cable connection, wich works different from a ADSL wich uses the broadband of the phone net.
For example, if I trace an australian IP (a friend of mine), the tracer gives me the location of Ozemail in NSW, not the user. And you know how big is NSW. In this case the user in in Mudgee.
But, if someone says is in Belarus and her IP is from California, there is no doubt.
