I did buy a "World Phone" (GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900) for use with the Moldovan phone system (which uses 900) and I purchased a SIM card at the time for around $10 - which my then-fiance thought was a complete extravangance since I would only be using it for a couple of weeks. Unfortuantely the phone, purchased over ebay, was a dud. The battery would not hold a charge. And I did not know that to be the case until I arrived in Europe. Subsequent replacement batteries from this source proved no more reliable. This included 5 grivna credit. Not sure about these figures. Anyway, you can recharge the sim card using cards that you can buy in many shops. That was very easy for me.
