Author Post Ptichka Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 6/10/2004 6:03:30 AM   When my friend just moved to the USA, and we were exchanging e-mails very often (now she is busy with a baby), she told me her impressions of the USA, of her neighbours...and she told me, that once after a week or so there, she decided to start bycicling just for fun and for keeping fit (as roads there are much much better then here), and she did that at day time when her husband was at work. And she said they (mostly women) looked at her like at a crazy girl...as she was riding around the street to get used to the region and city where she lives... In the course of the conversation I mention that I am originally from AUstria, and she looks at me and scratches her head and then she said " Austria - where is that, I am not really good in geology" ..... I can only agree with all the things that are mentioned above, I find it refreshing to correspond with women who take care about how they look and who also have something intelligent to say. I have lived in the midwest and now am on the east cost, and have seen my share of not so nice stuff whereever you go. SOmetimes it seems that the rest of the US needs to have a state like California to beat on so they can feel better about themselves. I hope I didn't offend anyone here in particular, but you find all kinds of people everywhere. And as for the second part of GL's summation of the California dating scene, "Most men marry, date or get involved with the most attractive woman they can afford" - I don't know that it's much different here on the whole. All you have to do is take a look at who gets lots of letters and who don't. Obviously everybody has to decide for themselves if they think they can afford to bring a woman and possibly her child to their country and care for them, but there is no denying that pretty women might get 50 letters in 2 weeks, whereas other ones might get 0 in 3 months - clearly it's about looks here as well. You could not have been paying attention to the social scene when you were in California or maybe you lived in a small community up north.... L.A. county area has a reputation for being as Toad describes for a reason. I found plenty of shallow people whereever I lived, whether that's California, Minnesota, or East Coast. I suppose in my heart I still like California, and just feel it's unfair how the rest of the country looks down upon them as morally inferior, that's all. I found that in California people accept you for who and what you are and they don't bather you whereas in the Midwest and East Coast if you are not from "here" and don't conform to their expectations they will not be so nice. As for the dating philosophy of people, you may be right,obviously I can't prove my point with statistics. Man - you are right that there are plenty of pretty girls with few letters written to them, but you have to admit those that are true knockouts get disproportionately many - which proves that statistically speaking most men on this site also go for the looks, just as somebody was describing a California man's dating philosophy. How else would you explain some of these Miss Wow's getting 3-400 letters in couple of months? If a girl shows a bit of skin in her photos men will flock to her like flies.
