A Russian woman of 40 wants to get married, but she is only willing to marry a man if he is still a virgin. After several unsuccessful years of searching, she decides to take out a personal ad. She starts corresponding with a typical Australian like danny.
They end up getting married. On their wedding night, she goes into the bathroom to prepare for the festivities. When she returns to the bedroom, she finds her new husband standing in the middle of the room, naked and all the furniture from the room piled in one corner.
"What happened?" she asks.
"I've never been with a woman," he says, "but if it's anything like a kangaroo, I'm gonna need all the room I can get."
Referring to an Australian woman as a 'Sheila' is like referring to Australian beer as a 'Fosters', they are tourist sayings and no true Australian would refer to them as such!
I found my fiancée on TAU2, but you also have to weed through the scammers. Also I had good luck on Ukraine Date... same scenario... many scammers. If you’re going to date internationally then you best learn how to spot a scammer from a distance.
rfjot's & Oz's stories are reality checks.
Marriage in the US is a gamble w/ divorce rates up near 50% & divorce attorneys....let's just say if this was on TV, my opinion of 'em would be 1 long, loud BEEEEP!
There's seems tough because of all you go through to make a reality. There is a sign in a local shop; 75% of life's happiness comes down to ONE decision....your mate!
Supposed to be a joke but anyone surviving a divorce feels a twinge in the ole pucker port that got cleaned out in the process.
Then you have prominent news stories in US of a foreign wife who suddenly divorces & takes their child back to native country. Then the international legal battle begins.
Not trying to paint a bleak, impossible picture here. Just a reminder. especially to those completely new to the process, there is no such thing as being TOO CAREFUL. I'm sure rfjot & Land of Oz wish us well..... Paranoia & love do not blend well. At some point we all finally have to let our guards down.
I joined AFA earlier this year and have come to the conclusion that they are not straight-up.
In the last several months, I have only had time to contact 4 ladies on this site.
EVERY contact experience was marred with problems. So much so, I question the legitimacy of AFA's Letter Forwarding/Receiving service
and whether the actual reply letters are real. On multiple occasions, I was notified of a reply letter in my inbox. When I would open my in box and select the "new" letter and then pay for the letter, it would turn out to be bogus. It was either a duplicate of another letter already received or there would be no letter at all. Also, I would receive an email notice of a new letter and, when I check my in box, there was no new letter. On another occasion, I sent a letter to one lady that I had been corresponding with over a 3-4 month period, the contents of this particular letter was questioning certain practices of AFA. After two weeks had gone by with no reply from the lady, I checked my In Box and my Sent Box. The subject letter had disappeared! There was no trace that it had ever existed or had been sent.
Bottom-line, in the last year I have tried about 8-10 different international dating agencies and this one ranks at the bottom along with such notable, infamous sites as Chnlove.com. It would be nice if there was at least one decent site that was impeccably honest. Posted 8/10/10
That outfit has been discussed, in one disguise or another, here previously, the registered address of AFA is:
7227 North 16th Street, Suite 240, Phoenix, Arizona 85020
Now just run that address thru Google and of all the company names that turn up, registered in that same suite, run them thru Google followed by the word 'scam'.
The US is not a good country to get divorced in. Plain and simple.
I certainly feel for you and believe your story is legitimate but I also think that it spesks less about Ukrainian women and more about what a raunchy deal American men get in divorce court.
Oh sure, she might have been easily swayed by a money hungry attorney - but but we have such beasts of the home-grown variety as well.
We men, those of us looking to the FSU for a fiance, come in all varieties too. Some of us are pretty good at picking a person who truly loves us for what we are and for all of the right reasons, and not for what we have whether that by assets or citizenship. Some of us might not be so good at doing that. In fact the incidence of those of us who have some difficulty identifying and choosing sincere women, who are also looking in the FSU might actually be higher than in a rndom sample of the general public becausea if we had been successful in this regard with western women in the first place we wouldn't be looking to the FSU.
I feel for you, but I can't see aplying your situation as any sort of condemnation regarding women of Ukraine or the FSU. It could CERATINLY serve as condemnation regarding out legal and divorce system.
Regarding AFA - I have never written to women through their site and I NEVER would recommend a pay-per-letter service. You are only asking for trouble.
But I have MET many ladies who are registered with AFA while on various Romance Socials with the company in Mariupol, Donetsk, Kiev and Poltava and I can tell you that the ladies themselves are legitimate, not to mention often very beautiful.
They ARE from a variety of local agencies. AFA keeps home offices in some of these cities and you will find loose leaf binders with all of the ladies from those locations but AFA is minimally staffed in each of the cities. The girls come from all sorts of LOCAL agencies. Even at Romance Socials - the ladies will tll me that they know some of the others but not certain others and this familiarity is always based on which agency each of these girls is signed with.
Therefore, for those thinking that AFA girls can often be found on other websites, my response is YES THEY CAN BE! They can usually be found on their originating website as well.
I must tell you that if you go on an AFA SOcial and eaither take the full tour or pay for the service, the ladies who work in the small AFA offices will work he phones tirelessly to make sure the lady you are interested in will be available. Of course they cannot guarantee it (as the ladies are people themselves) but sincere effort will be made. ANd the agencies that origianlly booked the ladies will generally work very well with the local AFA representative.
rjfot,
can you please explain that you had to also pay for her legal fees? Can a prenup help? I have not found anyone but always thought with an ironclad prenup one can avoid theses problems.
Thank you for your advice.
i heard that riga and tallinn are getting to be big party spots for lots of guys from the UK
during the summer. it sounds a bit like odessa ukraine. probably the girls there to are westernized and on the clock so to speak. i have been to russia and ukraine.
Didn't you sign a prenuptial agreement? How much reefer do you smoke? The US Justice department lists marriages from US man and FSU woman as a divorvorce rate of 24%. Divorce rate in the US is just over 50%. I'd say with a good prenup you would have come out smelling like a rose. I'm going to get one that says she gets $1000 per month for 1 year if she leaves. Then nothing. Also why would she leave if you treated her so well? Where did she go? To live in a cruddy roach hotel? $2k per month doesnt go far in LA. Why did this look like a better life to her? I'm just asking.
Giss,,,, I have a question for you. If a couple signs a pre-nup,,,,, and it gives her nothing, does a judge have the power, to break the pre-nup,, and award her alimony??? This would be under normal or pleasant conditions,,, if there is such a thing during a divorce!
YEs if you give her nothing and the longer you are together the more sway he has in this but the trick is to give them something. where I am from the woman is entitled to half of your monetary net gain while you were together. So if I ever find the right woman I will give her perhaps $3000 for each year we were together. Then you need to have it translated my a certified legal translator to prove she knew what it was she was signing. If she is a little worried you can always include that if it can be proven you were cheating on her she gets more if you have that much self control. :)
giss, you also have to hire an independent attorney for her to review the pre-nup. if she signs a prenuptial agreement without the aid of counsel it's as good old newpapers lining your sock drawer. you need to look into ALL of the legal issues surrounding a marriage to an immigrant. it's not as cut and dry as you might believe.
