I agree with Apal-Why exactly do they have to speak English anyway, i have been to Florida and they did all speak Spanish there. full of Cubans What a dive that was.
Bored, where exactly were you in Florida...only in Miami is there a large cuban population. It would be nice if you gave better descriptions. From your post it sounds like ALL of Florida is populated with only spanish speaking cubans.
I just got back from visiting my lady in Russia. Both of our biggest fears were her lack of English skills and my lack of Russian skills. At the last minute our translator bailed, and to make a long story short (a really long story...definitely plan on more than a 2 hour layover if you're connecting through Moscow) the first time we met face to face it was just me and her and very little way to communicate. We were both a little aprehensive and unsure of ourselves.
But you know what? It worked. She started picking up some English, I picked up some Russian, and a friend of hers loaned us a Russian-English/English-Russian dictionary. By the time it was time to go home (lots of teary eyes at the airport I'm happy to report) we were hardly even consulting the dictionary. Turns out you can communicate some very complex ideas using just a few words, hand gestures, and the occasional dictionary reference.
The one time we used a translator was when I was explaining the Visa paperwork to her. I wanted to make absolutely certain she understood the K-1 process.
So to those who say it can't or shouldn't be done if she doesn't speak English, I say bah. We did it, and it's not like either one of us is some kind of genius when it comes to picking up languages. I'll admit it was a little frustrating at times, but it was never insurmountable and at times it was quite fun. It became almost a game.
Exactly right Ulmo. When there is a will, there is a way. When you encounter an obstacle like language, you can really tell if someone is interested very quickly. How? Well they won't even attempt to talk to you. ;0
Ulmo, i wish you and your girlfriend a good future, but please tell us in a month or two, how the language barrier has affected you...i'm sure your thoughts on this issue would have changed!
zeeco, I'll take you up on that. I'll predict here and now that if our relationship does go south, it won't be because of language. We'll see if I'm right.
I agree with zeeco - lets see if things change in a month or two. It might be fun communicating that way as a novelty but its hard to get to really know someone when they don't speak the language.
As already mentioned previously - not speaking the language is a defintie plus for apal. The longer he can keep them in the dark about him being an idiot, the longer his "relationship" lasts.
I'll have to agree with Ulmo....language is low on the difficult list with me. Sure it is convenient if girl speaks english but even if she is 10, much slang and US english she won't understand completely. If both parties are really interested in each other, language can be overcome. What is difficult is great chemistry, trust, better way of life and HER wanting to leave country. Also, it is hard to get to know someone when they DO speak your language..ie..girl from home!
BADA BING BEEMER! The slang drives my wife crazy. Yeah she can study the language before she comes and it really helps. We had a blast early on learning to communicate with each other through different methods. I think early on it was more helpful in learning each other than a hinderance. Everyone tries to base relationships on communication, but there are more ways to communicate than the spoken word and some have better results!!
Damn Nas - your a freaking hypocrite. That's what I been saying this entire time and you decide to get on your little man's high-horse and try bad mouthing me about it.
And nasfan? He's just a jealous old wierd fart. lol ;0
Apal, what the hell are you talking about. I've spoke on this issue way before you even came along. I haven't been busting your stones regarding english speaking or the girls limited ability to do so. You need to review your posts.
apal:
In several post you have told us about how good looking you are. Certainly you must have a profile up somewhere. How about providing us with a link to see what "gods gift to women" (the guy who could supposedly steal all of our women) looks like.
Give us a link - so we can see just how good looking you are. I'm dying to see.
Guys your've been too busy name calling to remember what you were disagreeing about!. I think everyones options here are valid and fair. I've read what Apal has writtern and its about his experiences and his made some good points.
Jet, when Apal was ravening about his nightmare meeting with girl in Odessa, he had a post to a link to a site where there was a pic of him.....I did tease him about who that ugly looking guy in site!!!! He is younger looking but his attitude leave something to be desired...especially from girls he meets.
