You never send anything to them in the postal mail. I always send my main introduction letter through postal mail. I guess if it works for you fine but I would not communicate without a postal address.
Oz...you mean you ask for an address in very beginning and send a letter to her at her postal address and wait till she gets it and then ask via e-mail if she got it and what was in it?? So these girls give their postal address to a complete stranger, since you have barely started to talk to them?? Wow! I guess it works for you.
What if girl speaks hardly any english or do you only go for girls that speak good english?
I send a single red rose first and get a photo. I ask the agency for the address. Some balk at letting you have it and of course have to get permission from the lady. But I have always been able to purchase it. I start email communication and tell the lady my introduction will come in the mail because I can send more photos and a better intro. I send photos including the one of her flower delivery as well as dvds of different things here including our school my work a video intro from me maybe a plastic or dried flower. Like to send an american candy bar but the postman eats that and throws the rest away. Builds a little intrigue. You do not have to ask if they got it. You will hear it loud and clear.
May not work for every one but that is the way I introduce myself.
Oz...do you do this for every girl you are interested in??
Here in fiance, I can just ask girl for phone # or address.
Boy you really go all out for girl. hope she appreciates you. I'd go broke if I did that for every girl I am interested in, over past couple years must have been over 75 that were possibilities, only got to meet with around 20 of them.
I'll check out your translator site.
I am trying to translate on my own but some words or phrases are difficult if not impossible. Some girls letters are partly in russian, so I can have practice. It is interesting because I write back and tell them what they wrote to see if I am right. It is kind of fun....adds to the process!!!!!
If you are just translating to read a letter you can use http://www.freetranslation.com/ copy and paste. Usually you can understand translation. If there is a single word I do not understand or wont translate I google it. You can usually find it on a Russian site. Then computer translate the sentence it is in. Usually gives you a good idea of what it means. They have so many prefixes and suffixes some words are hard to find in the dictionary.
Microsoft word will translate too but I like the website above seems to do a better job. With word click on tools at the top>research then at the right a sidebar will open there is a drop box there that says "all reference books" click the drop arrow and select translation then it will give you language from and language to options set them and click the green arrow that says send document for translation over the Internet.
I pick only a few profiles that I really like and do not send to 20 ladies. I go to meet one lady. I stay away from the ladies flashed all over the front pages. Sure you pick some that do not work and like I say that is how I am comfortable doing it and it works for me. Probably isnt for everyone.
Beemer,
So you've met 20 in person in all your travels? I'm impressed. Do you hire a translator ahead of time or when you arrive?... or do they all speak enough english? I spoke to one on the phone I have written and needed a translator in a 3 way telecon. I just wanted to hear her voice and the call lasted a couple minutes as no communication due to language barrier. Any recommendations?
Penny...only one way to go, learn the language. No better way to impress a girl than to speak to her in her language, even if broken or wrong verb congegation or half english/half russian, throw in some french and you got her interest. On all first time meetings I ask to have her translator there to make it more comfortable and since there is a lot of questions and answers. Hopefully by second or third meeting you can be alone. Even girls with a 6 out of 10 in english will want an interpreter. Of course it is best if girl can speak good english but some incredible girls beautiful & intelligent, don't speak much english. Isn't something to hear their voice, kinda gets you giddy!!!!! They're real!!!
Beemer...You are right, a little russian language will go a long way. I get a lot of attention once I open my mouth, because everyone was taught some english in school. The women tend to stay in school longer and the young ones remember enough still, when they hear you talk poor russian, they want to practice their english. That is if you are alone.

Well I am interested in learning the cyrillic and the spoken language. But the Mother in law thing (see my other post)... well if that is true, I am outta here. This is why I don't want children too. 3rd parties requirements only weaken the marriage at least in my paradigm.
Yea, I was giddy brought me back to first time speaking on phone to ex in 1983.
Oz- how doe your translation site compare to Altavista.babelfish.... I have used it in several languages over the years, but have no idea how accurate it is.
None of the translation sites are perfect. I have used babblefish but it has been a long time. At that time is seemed free translation did a little better job. You have to be careful with some translators because if they do not recognize the word they assume it is a name and translate it so it has the english sound with russian letters. Unless you have a good relationship I would use them only to understand the lady's letter. If you do use them to send mail make sure you translate to Russian and then back to English to make sure you can still understand it. If not change your words around until you can double translate. Use short single subject sentences with as simple words as possible.
Oz, that translation site works great, the virtual keyboard that pops up is cool- thanks for the info!
Now that I can see the letters...I need a "Speak and Spell" device that pronounces the words.... uggggggghhhhhhh! Any URL's for that service? I have no problem paying for such a Russian text to speech pronunciation site. I read some bad reviews on the one product out there that looks like a laptop that does this.
If you search on ebay for a Collins Russian English talking dictionary I think you can find one for about 12 dollars plus 6 shipping. You can type english and it will translate and then it will pronounce it. The one I had needed an update to drag and drop. That update is free but hard to find. If you get one and need the update send me your email pm and I will email it to you. It is still hard to find some words because of the suffixes and prefixes Russian uses but it is a pretty handy tool.
Land of oz
I think that your ideas are brilliant. I would never communicate with anyone through an agency translator. I tried it at the very beginning of my search and it was pathetic.
Tringa thank you for the support. When I am old and my life is over then I will be able to tell you if my methods were successful and if I was able to find a love that would last a lifetime. Until then I will continue making mistakes right along with everyone else.
Ok, I just got back from Ukraine a few days ago. It could not have been better, she met met me at the airport, and we shared an apartment together in Kiev, it was wonderful. After a week in Kiev we travelled to Oddessa to stay with her faimly, that was also great, they treated me so well. Like I said before - DREAMS CAN HAPPEN! we are now engaged and planning our future, :- )
