Well, I really have no idea why there are more women than man at first. People say that more boys are born only before wars. And I agree with Durak, though it's very strange to agree with someone whose nick is Durak (Stupid in Russian), that there are more men alcoholics and drag abused than women in Ukraine. But not that more. And I can agree with the number of imprisoned men, but the great quantity of them have women waiting for their release. Most Ukrainian men work very hard to support their families, and usually they are completely exhausted in their mid 40s. Many "male" jobs in Ukraine are extremely dangerous and detrimental to health. Such jobs as a miner or metallurgist can't give a long and healthy life. And the number of accidents and professional illnesses is very high in these branches of Ukrainian life.
The number of men and women with college or university degree is almost equal. And there are more men than women that have two or more degrees. In fact, higher education in Ukraine is very popular and almost all people go for it. So I strictly disagree with the statement that Ukrainian women are better educated than Ukrainian men. That story about 2 women in Kiev is funny. Ok, I have 5 very close friends of mine, they are all healthy, wealthy, handsome, well educated, with normal sexual orientation and in their mid 30s and they are not married although lots of women would dream about getting married to them. Does it mean there are not women enough in Ukraine? I don't think so.
As I am a journalist researching the problems of dating and marriage of local women and foreign men and writing a book about it, I questioned lots of Ukrainian women if they wanted to get married to foreigners. I've been researching for 3 years. And I compared my results with other surveys. The figures would disappoint the foreigners. The vast majority of single Ukrainian women in 28-45 age group didn't even think about it. And if you want to know the main argument "why not", it's - If a man can't find a woman for life in his own country the problem isn't with the women of his country, the problem is with that man. So I can say the same thing about those 2 ladies.
One more thing. There is no problem in finding a real woman for life in Ukraine, and it's not necessary to be a foreigner or local. It is necessary to be a MAN.
1 - see yourself in proper perspective
2 - look for a real (I mean right for you) woman
3 - be yourself but be able to change yourself in some ways
4 - and try to guess what Ukrainian women want
And I bet you will find a perfect wife in 3-4 months
I even ready to run an experiment on any of you describing step by step events and the results. I think it would be interesting, like a reality show;)
Like the post Armin. Especially about "try to guess what Ukrainian women want" I have been trying for 5 years and still have not worked it out! I do agree very much with your points though. It is so true when you say that if a man cannot find the woman in his own country, then the problem is with the man.I met my lady when she was visiting London, although it was difficult at first seeing each other every second weekend. She now lives in London with me and we are very happy together. Would I go to the trouble of trying to find a wife in Ukraine/Russia if I had not met her? No definately not. It is easier to find a good one in your own country. Wherever that might be.

I don't think so either. However, it is consistent with the hypothesis that there are not enough MEN in Ukraine. If a young man can get as much action as he wants, what is his hurry to marry? These are men who could easily marry, but don't appear to be interested. For those women in their 30s who want to get married and aren't finding a man, men like Armin's 5 friends are absolutely no help: they are withholding themselves from the pool of actually (not theoretically) available-for-marriage men.
Most women in their 30s want to have children, within the context of a stable marriage. For them, "playing the field" (or getting played) does not answer their need.
More than a year ago, I saw a ukrainedate profile that described what she was looking for as "hybrid of vibrator and bankomat," bankomat being their word for ATM.
Can't complain that she was pretending to be more virtuous than she is...
OK, I have 3 female friends, (actually I have more, but these are not married). We know each other for ages. Two of them have 2 Master's degrees and one of them is PHD in philology. Cute, I would say beautiful, tall, intelligent, healthy, have good income. They are 29, 32 and 33. Still don't have children and attract males' attention wherever they are. They don't stay in Ukraine all the time, like travelling around the world. And it is easy and free for them as they do that for funds of different European Universities they work for. Spending in Europe 2-3 month a year they have the opportunity to find a "desirable" foreign prince. But they don't have the reason. When we meet I ask them when is the Big Day and joking that I want to drink at their wedding party (I don't drink alcohol). They say that they haven't found the man they want to get married to. It doesn't matter where this man is from, they can find them either in Kiev, Nikolaev or in Berlin and New-York. All depends on the PERSONALITY. There are many men in Ukraine that cannot find their women, because they haven't found them yet.
Reading some of the posts one can imagine that poor Ukrainian women are waiting for a foreign here to free her from a cage called Ukraine. Ok, some give the examples when women say they can't find a good man here. So what? I bet I can find the examples of US women telling about their problems in finding a good man in US.
You say that Ukrainian men are selective? Foreigners aren't less selective and fastidious. Here is an example. I was assisting to an American in woman search, processed thousands of women and at last I was sure that I found the right woman -cute, young and very serious and corresponded to all his demands (he was monstrously selective and his demands, taking into the consideration his age, were fabulous).
Well, he said that she was impolite and couldn't come to a compromise on a very important question, Attention - she said she didn't want to wear too short skirts because she was more than 35 years old. That was the reason to deny this woman.
Who else wants to tell me about selective Ukrainian man?
Julian what country are you from, I'm sure there is no theft there at all. Of course, only in Ukraine one can steal one's camera. Once I lost my wallet in a taxi. The taxi driver brought it back to me in 2 hours. I'm sure he wasn't Ukrainian, and now I know he was from your country.
just a joke --- I'm sure I lost the camera in the cab but the guy never came looking for me atleast as far as I can tell -- it was easy to know where I was because he had the address and knew exactly where to go -- just an unfortunate event, but trust me many men tried the drop scam on me while I was in kiev. and that is a fact -- almost every day, it became comical after the third day, but I felt safe everywhere I went - and I wondered all over the place at all hours of the day

When I have communicated with such "high calibre" women in Ukraine I find that they are generally arrogant and distant, much more so than women of similar status here (in the UK). Its like everythings too much trouble, you arrange a time to talk on the phone and they don't bother sticking to the arrangement ('oh well my friend wanted to go out for coffee so I joined her'). I understand that culturally they expect the man to do the chasing but the logistics of that don't work too well when your a thousand miles or more apart.
devilmaycare --- I have experienced a ukrainian woman who exhibited just that same attitude. Unfortunately for her I did not crawl at her feet. I think she thought her s--t don't stink. But I was just trying to be friendly and trying to converse on a down to earth style. I was not up to impress anyone. I was hoping to find someone who had a sense of self and was genuinely personable. Ah, but it seemed that I must over impress... not my style.
Bond - Armond Bondd --
I know a hundred women who attract men wherever they go. I was with women who created traffic accidents. And executives etc.... blah-blah-blah-
Give me someone who is real any day over a phony who expects men to lick the footprints they leave on the sidewalk. I have been with women who many would lick the toilet seat after they left. You asked, I am an American. And regardless of your thinking, I thought that maybe there was the type of person who did not feel that you had to bow down to them because they were a knockout. Apparently it is the same in FSU countries as it is all over the world. Or at least in USA. Still, many are hoping it is not the case. For myself it does not matter any longer. I have given up searching for the perfect woman.
